Several doctor's visits for back pain and an MRI later, disc issues and spinal stenosis are part of my life now. Fuuuuuuck. My GP said I could avoid surgery by focusing my workouts to continue strengthening my core, working on flexibility, and keeping weight off. I was already habitual with my fitness, so adjusting my routine was no problem. However, after about 6mo, I was still in constant pain and taking Advil every day. I began making my peace with having chronic pain. My wife told me I'm an idiot to concede (she's right) and suggested I try seeing Dr. Rachel. She's been a patient for many years and Dr. Rachel has helped her resolve numerous issues that western medicine didn't have an answer for alone. It was worth a shot and I scheduled an appointment. Dr. Rachel was extremely thorough in understanding my medical background (way more than any other doctor I've ever seen) and given my symptoms, she recommended we try acupuncture to treat my back. I went for a total of 3 sessions, had no true expectations but open-minded going in. In the 1st session, I would say 80-85% of the time Kate was doing the talking. Not saying it was not important info or intentional, but thought the client would have done most talking. I left feeling the 1st session, not the most optimistic but still open-minded to continue. 2nd session was a lot better as I got the chance to really talk and open up more, letting out some emotional baggage which I believe is what I was truly looking for. After each session, she emailed me an MP3 to listen for better quality sleep. Honestly, it worked so I was ok with that result. In the last session, I remember we were talking about something and I had I asked for more clarity on what she meant and to me was a snarky/annoyed attitude that she came back with. I noticed this snarky attitude several times from the first time we spoke. Never in a disrespectful way, but enough to me where it was very surprising and not reassuring at all coming from a professional therapist/counselor. Some final thoughts- I was never hypnotized, she gave me the option but felt persuaded to listen to the mp3 only. I was ok with that and would say that worked so overall no issue here. Comparing prices for doctors, mechanics, home remodeling companies is COMPLETELY NORMAL TO DO. ESPECIALLY WHEN PAYING OUT OF POCKET. The simple fact that when asking what the prices are and instead of responding with "we cannot provide a rate until after we complete a free consultation" he decided to double down in his reply and justify his reasons for that response. Any professional should NEVER have an issue with answering basic questions. This owners response to my review alone shows me no professionalism, no compassion but a need to feel justified in his response to a simple billing question. OKAY NOW FOR THE SOLUTION. (I have tried multiple different things from medication, hypnosis, talk therapy, psychiatrist, breathing techniques, homeopathic medicine.) the solution was seeing an actual licensed psychologist, we did EMDR & CBT which is what helped me the most. After six sessions, I can honestly say that I started to see a drastic change. After a year, I was bulletproof. I have seen counselors in the past, but an actual licensed psychologist is something different and I now know that. This psychologist has taught me so many skills and tools. That after years of being out of therapy, I am still positively progressing by myself, on my own because of every tool I was taught. It's a lot like being in school, where you learn the fundamentals and the tools you need to achieve success in whatever aspect. Because everything is subjective to each individual and each individual might be going through something different it is that more personal and catered to you of course. When I started to write something (I won't call it a review) for Josefa, I wasn't ready. I wanted what I wrote to mean something and to reflect how I feel about the affect she's had on my life. So, I'll take a shot now, but I'm still not sure I can do her justice. Josefa is a truly gifted person. She not only had an almost immediate understanding of the person I was, but also a tremendous insight into 'why I was' and how I could be the person I wanted to be. It's interesting because I had visited a counselor on and off over many years, whom I thought was good. However, in just two coaching sessions with Josefa, I discovered things about myself that I had neither thought of nor discussed, previously. Over the course of working with Josefa for a few months, she helped me to better understand myself, which led to quite a change in the way I feel about myself and how I interact with the world around me. From session to session, she always was on top of what we had previously discussed and was familiar with issues that were currently affecting my life. And, she was always on point with suggestions on how to best handle situations. Furthermore, the suggestions were ones that I could carry forward with me to future issues. Does everything work out for me now exactly like I want it to... of course not. But, I can certainly handle things much better now than I previously could. It may sound like I was a basket-case prior to working with Josefa. I don't think that's the 'case', but I certainly had issues. I imagine I still do.
