The Joiners Arms is a variable little pub that sits on Denmark Hill in Camberwell. I can never make up my mind on this place. I have been there a few times and had the warm cosy feeling one would want from a traditional English pub, but I have also been there and left feeling cold after having a somewhat unrewarding experience.
The service can also be quite variable; sometimes warm and friendly, but at times bitter and hostile. The drinks are honestly priced, and there is a good range of beer to choose from; however when I ordered a glass of wine, it came in one of those little bottles one would buy to cook with.
Round the back of the bar sits a pool table, which seems to be becoming a thing of the past-- and although I've never really had a dab hand at pool it offers an entertaining anchor on the night. The jukebox is also filled with a good selection of "indie" classics (for example: the talking heads) which is quite rare to find. In short I'm not really too sure what to make of the Joiners Arms, and always feel quite hesitant before entering. read more
