We…read morewere there for 2.5 days and we managed to finish ALL of the (walkable) trails in the whole park. The park is small but gorgeous and has lots of things to do. Camping, swimming, fish, kayak/canoe... we did two evening swims, and one where it was completely secluded. Absolutely magical. Sadly didn't spot any gators during this trip, but we saw lots of deer and armadillos! The mosquitoes are wicked tho so be sure to pack loooots of bug spray. Our bug spray had DEET in it and although it detered them a bit, it didn't stop them fully. It also rained twice for a little bit over the span of two days so that was really nice considering we come from austin and we haven't seen rain in a few months. Our first shelter actually ended up flooding so staff allowed us to love our things into another available and dry shelter. So anyway - overall we had the most amazing camping trip here. Pros: everything Cons: mosquitos We definitely left here covered head to toe in bites! Haha.

We baited them and dropped in the water allowing them to drift until they start popping up and we plucked them out of the water securing the catch. What a day! It was awesome, best fishing trip I've ever had. We ended up with 96 catfish of varied lengths after throwing back 5 catfish under-sized catfish, 1 carp, and one alligator gar. We are so impressed with Scott we've rebooked him for Memorial Day if you want s reasonably priced fishing trip the Scott is your guy. He also will take you out for line fishing too, but we really wanted try out this method and I've got to say it works.

This is one if the three islands located in Hodges Gardens State Park. It is the only island…read moreaccessible by car or foot. The island has a platform where several flagpoles are located surrounded by stone benches with a map on the ground in the center. Even though these structures are falling into disrepair with the map coming up off the ground and a few benches crumbling, it possess a certain charm with it's metal structural supports for the roof structure (above the benches) and breathtaking views. My favorite photo from our trip was taken here among the metal structural supports.
