The logs from those huge old trees still hold up this 2-story building. Once you step inside you'll feel as if you've gone back in time. It's definitely worth your while to stop in a few times every summer to see the new exhibits and attend seasonal events. Admission is only $2, however, the museum accepts larger donations also!

Waco aircraft were special planes, I've seen one in a aircraft museum in Tucson, Az. They also designed and manufactured the CH-4, the gliders that went into Normandy in WWII. My wife & I took a ride in a WACO a few weeks ago, slow and stable. That was the reason they were used in WWII as spotter planes along both coasts. Also note the the Troy Civic Theater across from Hobart was a final assembly building for WACO planes. The entire front hinges up to allow the aircraft to be rolled out. If your interests in Troy history it's certainly worth a visit. The nice people there are full of great information.

Today it's a cultural center that give back to the Troy community. Tonight I attended a talk on the Miami and Erie Canal system that went through Miami County over 150 years ago. It was excellent.

While traveling from Dayton to Columbus, we made a stop in Troy, OH. It is a very nice town with…read moresome nice shops. My friends wanted to take me to the Troy Hayner Cultural Center. I'm glad they did. The center used to be the house of Mary Jane Harter Coleman Hayner. When she passed away, she left her home to the Troy Board of Education with instructions that the house be used as a library, museum and for educational and cultural purposes. The house itself is beautiful, and the rooms are preserved in good condition. The Hayner family ran a distillery, and there is a room displaying their whiskey bottles. The house also hosts art exhibits. When I was there, the house was hosting an exhibit of paintings by Nelly Toll, a Holocaust survivor. Hiding from the Nazis in Poland, Ms. Toll painted water colors of what she had hoped her life would be. In addition to the painting, there was a video with narration from Ms. Toll on her story, which was interesting and moving. The house also hosts cultural meetings and classes, and can be rented for parties and weddings. The grounds around the house are beautiful and would be a great place for a small wedding. Oh, it should be mentioned that admission to the Troy Hayner Cultural Center is free, and that you can take photos while you are there.

This place is definitely at the top of the list for us when we want a night out in Troy. The place was free, but they take donations. You should go check it out if you love history! The main exhibit changes out.

Every September the WACO museum hosts a fly-in. Museum is open, many planes, mostly WACOs, descend…read moreon town, rides are given, and more. I went a long while back and it was fun, and went today: still fun. Events for kids (candy drop, "train" rides.) Plenty of history for grownups. Food trucks. Events all weekend. Friendly staff. We had a blast. Save up for a spin in a plane.
