Once you become a member they treat you like a part of the family. Scheduling is so easy and when you meet with the doc, his entire focus is on you. I am physically fit and active without major medical concerns so I was surprised to find out how much they could do to improve my well being. I have learned much about being proactive in taking better care of my mental and spiritual side-no weird sermons here or anything just great guidance- and I feel much better off for it. Their approach to medicine is to treat the cause not the symptoms and the best example I have is that since talking with the doc and understanding more about controlling anxiety-which I wasn't aware was affecting me- my symptoms of acid indigestion have significantly diminished. I was not able to keep my bone density appointment because the order was not coded properly and the practice would not respond to multiple requests to update the order. They would not respond to the imaging facility and would not respond to my direct inquiries. The patient portal is the worst I have ever seen. It is ironic that a practice that won't answer patient phone calls uses a patient portal that won't support online messages. The shabby appearance of the office is in keeping with the generally sloppy practice management.

So I read some reviews about Dr. Sack and Island Family Medicine and decided to schedule an appointment. The staff I interacted with were very nice and Dr. Sack seems like a practical, no nonsense and straightforward guy. I forgot to fast before my appointment so we couldn't do bloodwork today so my visit was pretty short. I'll get back in next week so they can do the bloodwork & check all my hormone levels and other basics. So far, so good. I'll update the review after I see how easy they are to deal with on insurance & copays and that sort of thing. For today's visit they just filed my insurance and told me I can pay the co-pay next week if my insurance requires one.

I never met Dr Sack personally - only a nurse practitioner, but the entire practice seems to focus a lot on pushing hormone pellets to women. First visit hormone bloodwork was done that I assumed was routine CBC bloodwork. Instead my insurance coverage denied it and I was charged for it. They tried very hard to push the pellets (which are not even FDA approved), but I refused - again, my insurance won't cover them anyway. Last visit I went in to get regular refills and again, they wouldn't refill my prescription without all the hormone bloodwork. I left the office without a regular checkup (only blood pressure check was done when I went in), but I was charged the price of a full visit. I cannot recommend this practice.
