    Just beautiful!

This place is amazing! I needed to replace an old and cheap leather jacket with something similar but would last. They hit it out of the park! The price was very fair for such stellar work, my jacket is seriously a work of art. The communication was excellent and jacket was delivered earlier and better than expected. This is an old school place that does what they do (make leather apparel) exceptionally well. It's not Nordstrom in that they don't have a state of the art website and app. There aren't salespeople in the sense of "selling". If you go in and know what you want, they will let you know the cost and work with you to get you what you want. It's not the kind of service that can be done over the phone or online anyway. If you are comparing high quality leather jackets, and I did, this is the place. It does take a bit of time, mine was just under 2 months, but the finished product? Nothing else compares.

I'm wearing a super soft cowhide moto jacket. They can make these in diff. weights of lambskin too.

Sometimes NextDoor is a good thing. Like a good neighbor, a gentleman on ND referred me to Johnson Leather when I asked about alterations. I went to see Alan who's been in business since 1979. Knowing that they do custom an technical leathers (motorcycle gear etc.) I thought Alan would be up to the challenge of taking in my vintage leather coat-blazer-jacket that has fringe, a shearling collar and beading. The good thing is that none of the bells and whistles of the piece were affected in the alteration. Alan and I agreed that the shoulders already fit pretty well for it being a men's coat, now he had to turn the rest of it into a women's garment. So, he took up the sleeves, and took in the arms, chest and body and turned it around in just a little over a week. Love "ahead of schedule"! Alan was off the day I went to pick it up, but Damon was on. He went over the alteration specs and had me try it on. It felt great. It looks like it was made for me. Good alterations don't come cheaply and great alterations definitely do not, but they were well worth it. Damon also showed me some red leather jackets for a girlfriend of mine. Cute! They do custom work, have their own line and sell very reputable leather brands. I think Johnson Leather is an SF tradition!

I took my favorite leather jacket here for repair. It was in pretty bad shape, the leather above both pockets was tearing, the lining was torn, the leather was cracking and discolored all over. I forgot to take a before picture but I just picked it up and they did such a good job! It looks like new. They were super communicative and explained all the repair options and pricing when I dropped it off, and then called me as soon as it was ready. Will definitely come here again for repairs on my favorite leather pieces.

Awesome shop. They can make anything out of leather.

This place is an incredible shop for getting custom leather for fashion and motorcycle gear. Excellent quality and service. Pick your leather, style, cut and lining and they will make sure you look great. Icing on the cake is Allen who made my experience great.

Great jacket that fits perfectly! Thank you sooo much!

I absolutely love my "off the rack" leather jacket that I bought. I intend to have a custom jacket made soon. Extra highly recommended.

Ask the Community - Johnson Leathers

Hi there, I have a small vintage leather bag, tan color with some print sections. It needs cleaning. Is this service offered? How much is it to get cleaned?

I have a leather bomber jacket that needs some repairs - a pocket seam that has come loose and the collar is cracked. Are these things you can take care of?

If the collar is cracking then there's not much that can be done to repair that other than replace the top collar. It's just a matter of finding a leather that is a close match.… Read more

I say questionable because Alan and I had a long discussion about weather the jacket was real or fake leather.

Disapointing anyways, this store has some 'designer' level clothing at varying prices that very wildly. Buying a 100 dollar pair of somewhat gothic style pants, the original owner guy I purchased from was kind of cool. we chatted things up, he kind of gave me some pointers for sf fashion spots, talked to me about some of the other items around the shop (including a 1000 dollar concealable leather pouch). I usually like to give things time... evaluate places before sticking with them... so opting to wait on anything else... I make a trip to japan (where I purchased another gothic style pants from the yellow house... which were even more disappointing that Ceiba. Details are in the review I made for them). Also, mind you, both pants are elastic and the material is a little thick, they were both very comfortable. after coming back, I had to get both pants repaired. the ceiba pants I've had to have repaired twice (but it still has more damage on it that I haven't gotten repaired. the pockets are falling apart for one) now while the japanese yellow house pants I've had to have repaired 3 times now. It's rare that I need to have my clothes repaired... mostly its seams coming undone and I can usually fix those myself.... usually... but these were more that the fabric was giving out. the seams were strong but the pants were fraying or giving out around the seams. I cant just sew that back in. I've gone to Ceiba twice to try to talk to them about the material, the pants, repairs... and just to find solutions. the first time for them to give me advice on to handle it myself... and the second time, after SEVERAL times having to pay to get them fixed, to see if maybe the item was just bad or something and finding more vendor and patron solutions. both times it was a woman this time and both times she could not help. I do not recommend people come here for clothes, its a nice name place to show off a bit and pretend to be more socioeconomically established but little more than that.
