The Johnson Creek Hike and Bike Trail is a convenient and accessible city trail that offers a relaxed outdoor option in central Austin. Stretching for about 3 miles, the trail is considered easy to navigate and is ideal for walkers, runners, cyclists, families, and anyone looking for a low impact way to spend time outside.
One of the trail's biggest advantages is its connectivity. Johnson Creek links neighborhoods in West Austin to popular destinations like Lady Bird Lake and the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, making it especially useful for recreational riders and commuters. The route runs along Johnson Creek and passes beneath MoPac, creating an interesting mix of natural creek views, greenery, bridges, and urban infrastructure. We entered the trail on the Enfield side and enjoyed our walk.
While the trail isn't a secluded nature escape, it offers a distinctive city trail experience. Some sections feel quieter and more scenic than others, especially during early morning. Also, the trail is dog friendly (with a leash...mostly the same in most parks). For a quick workout, leisurely stroll, or connection to other major Austin trails, Johnson Creek delivered a solid experience. read more
