Dearest Gentle Readers,…read more It is with a heart full of both delight and delectable satisfaction that I report upon my greatest indulgence in the wee hamlet of Havre de Grace--a quaint establishment by the name of Les Petits Bisous. Its sweet storefront is nestled on the corner of Washington and Congress where, rumor has it, the very air carries a whisper of sugar and butter. What a charming revelation this shop has proven to be! Upon entering, one is immediately struck by the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked confections. It is as though the very essence of Paris has taken residence here, and who could resist such an invitation? The macarons--oh, those heavenly morsels! A truly exquisite array of flavors, from the traditional French vanilla to the more daring Mon Cheri, each offers an ethereal crisp bite followed by a soft, delicate interior. Truly, these little jewels could charm even the most discerning of palates. The éclairs are nothing to dismiss either--puffy, golden, and crowned with the most luxurious glaze, they are filled with a rich, velvety cream that promises to undo all notions of restraint. One could almost forgive the baker for such decadence, for the éclairs are simply beyond compare. And yet, this bakery does not rest upon the laurels of merely two offerings. No! Emily extends her talents to a variety of treats (many gluten free), each one more tempting than the last. She is kind, professional, and lends her talents to the tutelage of others in culinary pursuit. Truly, she is one of a kind! To write further, dear reader, would be to risk losing one's dignity in the process--though these sugary delights are, of course, a pleasure worth losing oneself to. In conclusion, let it be known that Les Petits Bisous has, without a doubt, earned a permanent place in my heart, if not my waistline. Yours ever indulgently, Lady Whistledown(ish)

Tik Tok made me do it and I'm glad I did it!…read more My co-worker recently had been seeing some videos about the food at Newberry Cafe so of course we had to make a lunch time stop to see what everyone was talking about. Newberry reminds me of your hometown bakery where everyone gathers in the morning for their donuts and coffee before heading off to work. Very much like many of the shops in the Bel Air area. The employees are super nice at Newberry. Really taking their time to provide great customer service to each patron that strolls through the doors. Although it was lunch time we settled on breakfast sandwiches with homefries. And I of course had to grab a donut because it's a must, and a latte. The breakfast sandwich was just what you would want to start your day, a savory piece of meat and cheese on a soft bagel. But the star of the show was the homefries. Cooked and seasoned perfectly, crispy on the outside and a soft texture on the inside. We both loved the potatoes. My glazed donut was divine, pillowy with just the right amount of glaze to not make the donut too sweet. The latte was a little to sweet for me, but I'm a little finicky with the sugar level in many caffeinated drinks. All the times I've ventured into Bel Air I never thought to stop at Newberry and I'm glad I finally did. I'll definitely be back to try more of their yummy donuts and breakfast sandwiches in the future.

I assumed there would be a follow up email or phone call asking more detail what exactly I wanted. I never got a picture of the finished cake before it was delivered. There were mistakes on it and basically was told they went off the picture I sent. Shouldn't they have confirmed before making cake or AT LEAST sent me a picture confirming I liked it before delivering the expensive cake? I hope to at least be offered a partial refund. Nope. Not even an apology. The cake itself was ok. Nothing spectacular. Melted quickly in the hot sun (but that's not their fault). The cake was a little dry honestly too. Again, I hate leaving negative reviews and being THAT person. I'm sure their are better options for your cake needs in the area.

We did a tasting and the cake and flavors were delicious, so we had high expectations for the day of wedding cake. My husband was an executive chef for 25 years so he is hard to impress and when he lived this cake, as did I we were extremely happy with what we ordered. We ordered 2 tier 6" vanilla cake with blackberry between the layers and vanilla buttercream and the 10" layer was vanilla cake with strawberry layer and cheesecake buttercream. We did change the top layer to chocolate cake with hazelnut layer. It wasn't a problem and we were so excited. Day of...cake was dry, like it had sat out or was made way too early. The bottom 10" cake was some sort of citrusy lemon (?) cake. As far as the filling, it was so thin you could barely taste what it was. Even though it looked nice it was such a waste, dry, no flavor... it tasted horrible. Very disappointing and $250 basically in the garbage.

Before it was Simon's the Otterbein's name was over the storefront. They moved to Cranbrook a long time ago and at least two generations of Simon's were keeping up shop. Legend has it that Mr Simon pretty much lived in the place!! Well, the Simon family sold the business about a year ago to a Latino family. They are great folks and quick to offer a happy greeting upon entering the shop. Their famed sugar cookies dominate the display cases behind the counter. My mission this morning was to acquire two parcels of a deeply personal culinary weakness: DONUTS! Made from scratch donuts. Far better than Krispy and gas station or c-store donuts. At 1.50 each, you can't beat it as far as flavor and quality go. My second visit in about a month. I'll try to make it more frequently, but, you know, donuts... It's easy to stumble...

I know it is no longer a family run bakery anymore but I thought they got the recipes from the Simon family. I hope they do if they haven't because I won't be going back. The cake part of the peach cake just needs a little something to make it taste like Simon's!!

The customer service was horrible if they can't even update regular customers on a simple cheesecake I can't imagine how nerve-racking it would be to hire these people to do a catered event like a wedding or a birthday. The front employee Brooke was smug, snide, and extremely disrespectful enough that I will never go back again after that being my very first experience there.
