I sat outside in the corner by the river and the back of the house, and while I waited for my meal, a little trough containing assorted olives and nuts was placed in front of me. I ordered a nice red, and it came suitably warm. The starter was braised fennel with Mango andmixed leaves. The main was salmon fillet on crushed new potatoes with creamy leeks, capers and tomato, and with my Espresso came 6 handmade petit fours including caramel swirl, truffle, and orange chocolate. Our party of six was easily accommodated in their upstairs dining rooms on a Thursday evening around 8:00pm. We made a reservation on open table earlier in the day. Our server was Meghan who was cheerfully warm, welcoming and quite knowledgeable about the menu. Meghan made excellent menu suggestions. Loxley's also has a gluten free and a dairy free version of their current menu so special orders are simple. We started out with a charcuterie sampler that was full of delectable treats. I enjoyed the mushroom risotto and added some tiger prawns. Others in our party enjoyed the pork belly, duck and cod dishes. All delicious and artfully prepared. Of course Loxley's has a wide assortment of beers, wines and cocktails to enjoy with your dinner. If you are looking for less touristy fine dining in Stratford on Avon you will find it here. They are let down only by a lack of attention to the niceties. We had booked for 7:45 and had that confirmed by telephone. We arrived at 7:44, to be told that we were booked in for 8:00. We were shown to our table and ordered pre-dinner drinks, which took ten minutes to arrive. We were not offered "intros" to accompany them, and were left on our own for a further quarter of an hour before anyone came to take our order. The wine came almost immediately and was opened even though we were still drinking the pre-dinner drinks. The diners at the next table were heard to complain about a 25-minute wait, and on the other side a chipped plate had to be sent for exchange. When the food came it was of the usual high standard, but for some reason, although the waiters attentively removed empty plates, they ignored the empty drinks glasses, which were only removed when asked, at the end of the main course. It's a shame that such simple things turned a splendid experience into simply a pleasant one. Here's hoping they pick up on this and earn their fifth star.

Their style is to serve smaller portions - but at an excellent price, and allow people to experience excellent cuisine without breaking the bank.
