BEST BARBER SHOP I have been to. It only took me three years to find a good one, hahaha. I recommend to make an appointment before walking in, just to make sure your wait is not as long. I was a walk-in around 5:15pm, waited for about 30 minutes (The guys said it wasn't too bad today.) I took a number and sat down to wait. Lázaro Hernández was my barber today. Skin Fade + Beard Trim and a very little line-up. I loved it. I was I don't have to cut my hair and beard again myself, such a hassle. Barbers were friendly, professional, and friendly. They definitely know their job. They make sure that you are happy with the end result. They are very technical. There is a sign that says "Cards are accepted, Cash is preferred." I'm not typically a person to leave a bad yelp review, but I felt after this past experience, it was required. I started going to John's Barber Lounge (Lake Forest) in 2017. My original barber ended up leaving, so I started seeing another individual. I was loyal with this barber for 3 years, and after he raised his prices once (which I was ok with and agreed to pay), he decided to raise them once more while everyone else stayed at the same price. I wasn't willing to pay more for a service that I've seen other barbers at the same shop do (at a cheaper price at this point) so decided to go see someone else. This change happened about 5-6 months ago. Since I did that, my old barber would not even acknowledge me or say hi to me anymore. Talk about petty and pretty immature, especially coming from a grown adult. This made me feel some sort of way every time I went into the shop, but being the bigger person, I didn't care and shrugged it off. Fast forward to yesterday, where I got a text from my current barber AT 8:30 PM (A WEEK LATER) stating that I SMELLED BAD WHEN I CAME IN FOR MY CUT, AND MULTIPLE BARBERS COMPLAINED (See attached screenshot). It's hilarious because you can ask anyone I know, that I am not a "smelly person". I shower twice a day (at a minimum) and am one of the most germaphobic people I know. I may have came into the last haircut post gym, but I ensured that I had changed my clothes before coming. My girlfriend even saw me before hand and didn't even mention that I smell, and she is pretty straight up with me (if my breathe smells, she will say something. Have never had her say I smell). This was my last straw going here. They all gossip about each other at this shop, and about customers too. I would have respected this much more if my barber would have told me something in person the next time I had went. Also the shops condition isn't a "high end" shop - it's pretty dirty, so sorry for coming post gym one or two times. Last time I ever go here again or ever recommend anyone to go here. read more

I had my cut with Jennifer as usual but was rushed, had a bad experience, and a underwhelming haircut that was not what was asked for. Unless you need a buzz or a fade, I would not recommend going here. There are many better places to get a haircut. Really disappointed. We've been going here for about a year and I took my son today early in the morning. First time I didn't have an appointment, but all other times we did and those that didn't have appointments were seen quickly. We waited 45 minutes and still never got called, and people came in with/without appointments that they kept taking first. Like everything haircutting prices are through the roof. One end of the spectrum is a barber charging $30+ for a 5 min cut (I actually witness this while I was getting mine, buzz cut 5 min and $30 please) The other end are barbers who take their time to give you a horrible cut to justify the cost. This was the case this time. I asked for a very simple trim on the sides and nothing on top and that was too much for this guy. The second he started I got the feeling it was going to be bad, from experience any time a barber tippy toes with their equipment on my head I know it's going to be bad. "Just get in there buddy." It's not some delicate procedure, it's hair! It felt like he was trying to prune pedals from a flower. Going over and over and over the same non relevant spot in the middle of my head. If something is off I usually ask for one touch up, my logic is giving them one more chance to correct their mistake and maybe keep my business. But not this time, I really didn't feel like wasting any more of my time. I was fuming as it was, the thought of sitting there just to end up madder wasn't appealing. I cut my losses and got the F out of there. I really don't know how these places get such high reviews. read more

He asked me how I wanted my hair trimmed. I told him long on top, medium on the sides, and blocked. As he was cutting my hair he also trimmed my eyebrows. He cut my hair just like I wanted it done. I looked for an alternative way to communicate the following feedback but could not find an email address. My son has thick, blonde hair. This is our second time visiting and unfortunately he was placed with a newer Barber this time who did not know how to cut his hair. I believe it was the owner who stepped in several times to teach and repair the cut throughout the process. In the future, I encourage you to inform your clients when they are being trained on -- especially a teenager who cares what they look like. In the end, even I needed to step in and ask that length be evened out and fixes be made in a basic cut (2 on the sides, trim on the top). It is not professional to put an inexperienced barber on any client without honestly divulging this information AND providing a discount. We were still charged full price and no staff acknowledgment was made regarding the price my son paid to be a practice client. read more

I hate hate hate to write bad review for any business. But my last visit at this place told me I have to. By the way, I had my haircut here at least 10 times in the past 2 years. I walked in at 11:30am on a Wednesday , grabbed a ticket and sat. Nobody greeted me or said anything, this is fine, no blame. At 12:10pm, I asked one of the barber how long do I still need to wait? He said still a few more minutes. Four people were called ahead of me, 2 of them had ticket, 2 of them did not. For those two who didn't have tickets, I don't know if they have appointment or they are their friends. Lacking of communication made me feel like I was completely ignored. Being a fist time customer you would think it would be a good experience not feel like your and elephant the room when you first walk in right. Nope. No intro from the barber Q! vibe was very dry, suspect like I was suspicious and unwelcoming and weird stares from the other barbers and you leave thinking that maybe they really don't want me to return. This is to address concerns by another reviewer, Ken M. To start off with the large mirrors behind the barbers are there for THE BARBERS!!!! The mirrors are a tool, just like the barbers clippers or his razor. The barber needs to see the back of the heads by looking into the mirror as he cuts in order to get a better perspective on the haircut. Regarding your concerns about the credit card charges, the IRS considers most barbers to be independent contractors, so MOST barbers handle their own charges to the customers and pay the owner something later. This is the reason the charges show the barbers info and not the shops. You need a little education on barber shops before you slam them in a review. read more

After my most recent visit, it was my third check-in and all I can say the third time's a charm. On my prior visits here I didn't really ask for anything crazy, nothing too major on my haircuts. However, on my first visit I wasn't impressed, and at that time I wanted a cut a certain way (similar to what I'm used to at a Carlton Hair). So I guess my first barber was being careful or maybe the style I asked for is out of his zone to meet my expectation, therefore the result I got wasn't up to par. Anyways, I came back entirely because I know I can get more than half the cost here cheaper ($20 or under) than obviously a salon type trim at Carlton's. My taste has changed now back to barbershop trends in terms in having a simple clean up around the ears and tapers in the back and side burns. John's Barber Lounge fits the bill in doing that the right way. No matter what time I come in, it's busy. I don't see that as a negative, but this place is the spot for the freshest trims. And I notice clients here have their go-to's (by appointments), other than that I would take a number and I'm confident these guys can do the job because if you're in for fades, line-ups, the trends. It just seems like they no longer care about giving high quality haircuts but rather just cutting the person in front of them and then moving onto the next customer. There are only a couple of people who put care into their craft, but that's only a small percentage of the everyone who works there. I always tell them the same thing and yet, I always get varying results each time, with most of the time being below average. It was early in the morning and when I walked in, I was really surprised that this place was already PACKED!! So that tells me this place is popular! All the barbers were busy, I took my number and sat on the bench and wait for my turn. There were 2 TV inside showing basketball games to keep us entertained.
