I've been coming to Danckuts for a while now, and my experience this morning with Chandler was easily one of the best I've had. The Danckuts concept relies heavily on stylists following notes and photos on an iPad from previous cuts. Because you can't book specific stylists, you don't always get the same person, and consistency can sometimes vary. Today, I shared some of those past consistency issues with Chandler, and she was incredible. She really took her time, checked in with me throughout the entire cut to make sure I was happy with the direction, and even explained the nuances of why a cut might sit differently from time to time. She is meticulous, highly skilled, and has a great eye for detail. If the booking system allowed me to schedule an appointment with Chandler every single time, I absolutely would. I came here for a deal I saw on social media. They needed folks to come in so their students can practice on your hair. I think this probably was the longest haircut I ever had. For about an hour the barber cut my hair and the expert instructor checked their work and provided suggestions and tips. For $5, it was a neat experience. This place actually used to be a cool place to get a haircut from. I went back after I made an appointment online. Walked in no one said anything. Then 5 min later someone said check in over there. Sorry guess I should have known and then I got up to a look for a water or soda like they used to offer but they asked what I was looking for lol. Just rude. Place used to care about customers but they tried to cut costs. Went to a barber place across the freeway for one of the best haircuts I've gotten for like 20 bucks. This place has fallen from grace for me and my father. Service is terrible, the guys are more interested in talking to each other during cuts than focusing on our haircuts. Our guy even left a hair patch on the side of my head untouched and when I came back in he acted like he didn't just cut my hair and said hey how are you?. Bro, you just cut my hair or attempted to... Some topics and language, I wouldn't personally say in a place of business but, whatever floats their boat. They even raised their prices! FIRST OFF - I have attached a photo of my appointment for proof that my son's experience took place at this location. I would like to note that the owner requested Yelp to remove my original review, because my experience was "not at his location." In my original review, I mistakenly complimented and added an additional star, for a motorcycle that I thought was decor out front. Docking that extra star now, since we are playing hard ball here The overall atmosphere is unwelcoming and cold. It is not a modern aesthetic, but more of a warehouse vibe. We asked specifically for a 2 on the sides (no skin) and a 4 to be left on top for a faux hawk. My son received a buzz cut, with skin showing. There was no fade. No line up, just a straight buzz all the way around. This was not what we showed in our sample photograph nor what we had asked for. When we confronted the stylist, it was "Oh, sorry, I must have misunderstood." Needless to say my son was horrified, and is traumatized from this experience. He has had to wear a hat all summer, and we have had to delay our family photos. After my initial review was posted here, the owner reached out to tell me that he did not have a motorcycle at his shop, and that he was sure I posted for the wrong location. I sent him screenshots of my confirmed appointment. He proceeded to offer for us to come back to the Ladera location for him personally to cut my son's hair. This is something I would have considered, as Ladera is not too much further for us. However, before I could respond, (this was later in the evening and I was at my kids activities) I noticed a notification from Yelp that my review had been removed since it wasn't for the correct location. Upon further research, I learned a business owner can request to have a review removed for this. I find it EXTREMELY shady that the owner would request to have my review removed for this, when I had confirmed with him personally that the appointment did in fact take place at his establishment. Instead of waiting for my response, and fixing my review the right way - this man believes he has found a loop hole. Because of this behavior, I will NOT return, or give any opportunity for this company to redeem itself. I refuse to do business with UNETHICAL companies. read more

Made a first-time appointment to Danckuts Laguna Hills in preparation for an upcoming wedding I'd be attending. Arrived a bit early and was promptly and warmly greeted. Was also directed to their complimentary beverage area which was nice. When it was my turn to sit, the entire process was explained to me in an easy-to-understand manner. I went in that day not knowing what I wanted, just that I didn't want what was currently on my head. After analyzing my hair and head, we came up with the best plan and I can say that I am a very happy customer. First time here and they create a profile on your hair with detail notes with pictures. Meaning I can get the same hair cut with different barbers. Nice touch. I've been to dozens of barbers and they've all let me down. Nobody knows how to cut and style my curly hair... Except Danckuts Danckuts is the only shop that can do it right and teaches me how to style my hair at home! I live up in the Bay Area now and after 10 years still can't find a just good enough barber let alone at a reasonable price. I'm dying for a referral closer to home. For this particular visit, I was a little worried because I had not had a haircut in quite some time, so I was a bit shaggy. I also knew that I didn't have an exact style in mind, only reference photos of what I wanted. Enter Joey. I was sat in his chair, and he greeted me by recognizing that I did look a little different from my previous cuts (Danckuts saves photos of all your previous cuts and tracks your hair journey!). I chuckled because I was about to drop a project on him. AND HE WAS AWESOME. Joey asked all the right questions, managed my expectations and delivered an amazing result. People like Joey are one of the reason I keep coming back to Danckuts. There's just a level of trust and transparency, that I don't experience anywhere else. I've been to this location many times before and to Danckuts in general for years, however this morning's visit was not professional. While I was greeted when I walked in, I had a 10:30 AM appointment and showed up a few minutes early. I wasn't acknowledged by the employees to let me know how soon they'd be with me, making me assume they would be wrapping up within a few minutes. I'm writing this review while I sit and wait for them to call me over, except it's 11:05 and my appointment was at 10:30. Why are they still working on the previous appointments? Super unprofessional, especially since they haven't given me any update this entire time. If I have to wait longer than 20 minutes past my appointment time, there should be some kind of communication at the minimum. I'm affording them an extra star since I have gotten good service here before but today was not it. Post-cut: they called me up when I posted this at 11:05 and rushed through my cut so they could catch up. While they did take $10 off the regular cost, a 35 minute wait past a scheduled time slot seems unreasonable without covering it as a courtesy. read more

This place is AMAZING! I've taken my son to multiple locations and the haircut is always the BEST! The tech they use is next level. They keep profiles for each customer. They have technology they use to build you a haircut and use it to record your haircut to get the same one consistently from any of the stylists at any of the locations They have local beers on tap and sodas for kiddos. This place is not good. Went here on a whim and got paired with a stylist that went on a rant about how I need to only shampoo my hair once a week. As he's sharing his wisdom with me, he's attempting to use clippers much too roughly. I have a high tolerance to pain so I just sat there. A few minutes go by, then a few more, and then it gets questionable why he's taking so much time on a simple task. Finally he's done with the clippers and the back of my neck feels raw. He continues to cut the top of my hair and finally the cut is done. I rushed him to pay. I knew this was going to be a bad haircut but my hair is short so I thought it'll grow out within a couple days. I reluctantly tipped him and then drove immediately home to look in the mirror. The damage was done. He scraped my neck enough to leave it irritated and red. He also dug so deeply into my scalp with the clippers that he left a large patch in the back. Definitely took more than a couple days to recover from this damage. Yes I could have complained and probably gotten a complimentary cut but it's not in my best interest. Why risk getting someone similar. Ended up rolling the dice at another location and found a much better stylist. Avoid this place at all costs!! read more

Customer experience drives reputation and business. I chose Dankcuts, Laguna Hills for my 15mo old son's haircut because I work for Edwards and surely we pick vendors who can emulate high standards. Shanty who was assigned for my son's haircut is the sweetest, most helpful technician and should be rewarded for her customer first mindset. BUT the manager who was there at 4:30pm on Saturday had the worst attitude I have ever experienced. First, she proceeded to tell us that my son had to sit on his own for the haircut which I understand the liability behind it. Shanty was trying to find ways we can have a squirming toddler comply and was willing to put in the time to help us. As we were trying to find ways to proceed with the service, the manager rudely commented that they were closing in 10mins. Given the manager's impatience and cold, uninviting attitude, I decided to offer payment to Shanty for her time (which she refused) and left without service rendered. Not only did this location lose my business, this brand risked it's reputation by putting a horrible manager in charge. This is definitely not a child friendly business. read more

I've had a cut from almost every barber at this location. They all have a solid knowledge and foundation of how to trim hair based on everyone's bone structure and unique face shape. Through the use of smart tablets and hair cutting tools, this place has a systematic approach to consistent haircuts regardless of who your barber is that day. They record all the details of your cut so the next barber can deliver the same exact product. Friendly, professional, cleanly, organized and efficient. This place hits all the marks. Love it! Really, really wanted to like this place... I think I spoke with the owner directly when booking and she was so nice. The good: the barbers are personable, and care. They don't want you to walk out unsatisfied. The vibe is cool as well as the process. The bad: My son has really weird hair, if cut wrong, it sticks up and there is not enough gel in the world to make this better. So, when we talk about what to do, I always tell the barber that and tell them not to cut it so that I happens and it leave it long enough so that it doesn't happen. I also mention that it's truly the only thing we care about. Hair is hair-- it grows back. He's 11, so he's had his fair share of bad haircuts. Never one this bad though. His hair usually sticks up in the back for a few weeks after a bad cut. We've been dealing with a permanent spike above his forehead for 2 months now. I was really hoping that with the extra cost, we'd be paying for quality. We will be sticking to my hair lady for his haircuts from now on. I also learned that they rate their barbers by experience, my son's had a lower rating than my younger son who's haircut was just fine. So maybe that was my mistake, but the cost of the haircuts was the same. Also, they had no problem playing songs with pretty explicit language with children there-- my fault, I chose an adult place, but I would have appreciated some consideration thrown our way. read more

Pros: first cut was great, friendly staff, lots of availability, easy booking, multiple locations Cons: way too much variability of skill among barbers, many "good enough, not worth complaining" cuts but never got another cut as good as the first, had a couple truly bad ones that no matter how many times barber looked at previous photos she literally thought it looked the same and "fixing" it just made it worse Ultimately, decided to go back to my original barber/owner that's farther away who gets it 100% right 100% of the time. Basically, it's like Paint Nite. All the barbers look at the same painting with the same instructions but due to different skill levels, every painting comes out looking different. Not to say a place like this isn't good. If you're OK with a decent but not perfect cut most of the time with some duds, I can see the appeal due to convenience. read more

I have gone to this place a handful of time purely because I was going out of town on short notice and needed a quick cut. Despite their system to ensure you always get the same cut, I pretty much got a different cut every time I went there. two times I got the same girl and the cut was the same. Went back for a 3rd time and she had moved on... sad. Other people disclosed that my notes in their system were all messed up and that's why I always got a different cut. I guess it's safe to say the people working there aren't on the same page; keeping the same note style. I have never gotten a "free cute" like they say they give you if you don't like your cut. read more

Absolutely love Kieffer. I'm generally pretty whatever with my haircut because I haven't really ever had a hairstyle that I loved, so my first time here, I told Kieffer "a combover, but other than that, whatever you think looks good." Rather than going at it, he asked a lot of questions about what I envisioned in my head, and he took it step-by-step, taking off just bits of hair each time until we found the perfect length. He also made his opinion known at times so I wouldn't make any poor decisions. In the end, we ended up with a hairstyle that I actually really liked. Literally, in my life, I don't think I've found a hairstyle I liked more than my current one. Before you finish, they take pictures of your haircut, so you can get a consistent one each time you go. The only weird thing is that you can't request a specific hair stylist when you go. You get whoever is free at the time of your appointment, and they base it off the picture they have of you. There's also beer on tap and a fridge stocked with drinks. It seems like a nice place to chill, but I'm not sure who would chill there? read more

Another overprice, overhyped disappointment. I could not ask for a simpler haircut other than a complete buzz and yet this dude could not handle it. At the time he seemed to be doing an ok job. Had to ask him to raise the fade because he had done it mid, even though I had said high since the beginning. Also had to settle for a #4 clip on top since they "didn't have bigger clips." What kind of mediocre barber.....oh wait I'm sorry engineering science mapping blah blah blah place, does not have a full set of hair clips?! I did not realize the full scope of the travesty until after I took a shower. Patches of random hair, three lines running across my head showing the different clips he used and a literal buzzed off rectangle on the right side of my head. Senior photos haircut: I dislike writing negative reviews. I honestly do everything I can to avoid them. This review is for Jessie, the stylist, and Zac, the owner. I've brought my son here previously on about 4 other occasions. We've had male stylists (including Zac) and each time their confidence in cutting took an average cut into one we could live with. This is a teen cut so we're not expecting or needing greatness. This two star rating is for: 1. Poor communication. Stylist Jessie could find no words to say besides "how many fingers would you like?" She did not say "taper" or "buzz" or "shear" or anything that remotely indicated the style she was trying to create despite being given photos and having a computerized description of the previous cuts. She did not appear to even read the previous cut description and she certainly didn't ask if my son wanted anything different before cutting. 2. Absolute awkwardness. Jessie did nothing to help ease the situation other than stare. I showed her multiple pictures, I expressed how uncomfortable I was feeling, she did nothing but repeat "so you want a four finger cut?" 3. Bad cut. After agreeing to "3 fingers" Jessie does a sheer taper cut and takes off a good 2-3 inches immediately. I can see skin. I asked her to explain and she says she's doing a "3 finger open cut". I'm not a stylist, but I'm starting to realize she meant to say "a tapered cut". 4. Cost. $40 for original cut. 9 days later and apparently Kut Assurance is invalid. States Zac "it's in the paperwork you received during your first cut. You only have a week man. It's been forever since you've been in". It's been 9 days Zac. I don't know about you, but $80 is mighty expensive for a poor teen cut. Zac agrees to "meet me in the middle" and I'm now out $60 for a single bad cut. Note: Website does not state Zac's verbalized one week only guarantee. 5. Dirt. The floor and chairs are covered in hair. I was not witness to any sanitation while I was there. Just a note for those expecting a Lysol wipe down between clients. It probably won't happen. With Covid, we waited until it was absolutely needed to come in because my son's senior pictures are scheduled. I intentionally scheduled 10 days before to have time for him to adjust. His hair is fine/wavy/curly so I understand that not all stylists are trained in anything other than standard straight hair male cuts. Short story: We left and his hair was longer on one sided, uneven, and not based on the "mapping" that Zac advertises. No scissors were used. The stylist appears only trained in shearing with clippers. Understand that before you go and adjust your expectation. So why two stars? For this: This entire encounter was an excellent learning opportunity for my son. In a single hour he was able to learn the definition of "poor customer service" and how to express yourself when in a difficult situation. He understands now that he need never be at the mercy of a bad stylist. If she takes off three inches, after she's said one, you can stop and ask her to explain. Most of all, he's learned that even when angry, you don't ever have to raise your voice or swear or make a scene and that not all people are taught either manners or how to effectively communicate. Overall, poor service, poor haircut, poor experience. UPDATE: I've lowered my rating to one. Your reply was condescending, chauvinistic and completely inaccurate. I hope truly that many, many local parents see my review and, at the very least, hesitate before visiting your establishments. I truly don't believe I've ever encountered as hostile an individual as you are Zac. You have my sympathies. read more

So thankful for this shop. I never have to worry about my haircut. Before I started going here over 5 years ago I would go to Supercuts and I always felt ridiculous about my kut. TLDR: barber didn't listen and I ended up with a completely different haircut than what I asked for. I have been to dank cuts a few times and had always asked for the same hair cute, high fade with a couple fingers off the top. I spent the last 4 months growing out my hair as I wanted to go to a low fade with a longer top. When I went in, U explained this, the barber said ok then proceeded to give me the exact same haircut I always get. So, 4 months of growing my hair out for nothing. First of all. This is a new experience for me. I got haircut on Friday afternoon. I never had random stylist to do my hair. Unfortunately my stylist moved. I wanted to try this place because of the reviews. The shop is very modern and simple. The stylist I had was a bit rough and not gentle cutting my hair. I had a picture of my hair I wanted side and front. He didn't do good job at all. My hair was messed up. The fade was uneven. Top of my hair was uneven as well. Also the side fade looks like very uneven and looks like my hair has been done half job. I had to correct few times to fix and I was frustrated and he seemed rushed to get to next client. Back of my head was bleeding and had few cut from shaving. It really bothered me a lot and ruined my night because it was hurting very badly. I think they need to fix the issue to make customers happy. I'm about customer service and attention. I will not be back again. Wow. All these years later and the quality and experience is still the same. In a phrase, 'The best place to get a haircut'. I moved out of the area years ago, and happened to be in town this last weekend and was in need of a cut. When I called the receptionist/admin called me by name, and was able to find an opening. When I got to my apt they noted that it had been something like 2000 days since my last haircut (obviously only in their system, assuming repeat business, which they should as I reiterate, 'The best place to get a haircut'). The cut itself was great, even my wife noted it was the best haircut I have gotten in years. The barber was kind, listened to what I asked for well and asked me a few more questions to ensure she understood.
