I hired this contractor after a basement water leak. The scope included patching and repainting the…read morebasement walls, reinstalling the drop ceiling, widening the doorway entrance, and a small paint job in the entrance foyer and near the second-floor fireplace area. I chose him for his Chamber of Commerce membership, strong Google reviews, and because he offered the earliest start date (May 11, 2026) of the three contractors I was considering -- despite being the most expensive. The project felt rushed from the start. For seven straight days, only one employee did the actual work; the contractor himself showed up only on the last day, to clean up. That evening, around 8 p.m. and after dark, I was pressured to pay the remaining ~$5,000 balance (total cost ~$10,000) before I had a real chance to inspect the work. Trusting it had been done properly, I paid. Afterward, I found numerous workmanship defects -- I've documented over 100 photos, a sample of which are below. I didn't feel treated with the professionalism I'd expect, and I'd encourage anyone reading the glowing reviews here to weigh them against this account. I've already filed a small claims case; the court's certified mail to the contractor's listed address was returned undelivered, but I intend to pursue this through other means. Please review the photos and do your own due diligence -- get everything in writing before paying.

Hired Steve back in February 2019 to build 2 closets in the basement. He built the wall of one…read morecloset partially covering an existing outlet. I asked him to make the wall shorter or move the outlet 3 times. His response was to carve out a piece of the sheetrock exposing the wood stud because the surge protector plug would not fit into the outlet. Besides this Steve was extremely rude to me. He told me not to speak to him in a very nasty way. It cost me extra money to fix his mistake! Never again! Let me clear up a few untruths you stated Steve trying to clean your record up: 1) We did not agree on your 'making covered outlet work' as stated in your rude text message to me'. Covering that outlet OUTSIDE the closet was a violation waiting to happen and needed to be fixed . You said the closet would stop a foot away from that outlet but you built it longer. 2) You were asked to place garbage AFTER job was complete or at END OF DAY when work was done. You made the bags so heavy that I could not carry to the street and I had to rebag them. I asked you to put the bags on the side of the house not in front...2 times..once for you, once for your helper! 3) You were asked if you wanted coffee or water 2 times in a day! You complained how other homeowners did not even offer you a drink of water after working in their homes all day. Why are you not complaining that I asked you what you and helper wanted for lunch and I paid for it for 3 days? 4) You told me NOT to come down into my own basement in my house! 5) Speaking nicely to your wife when you gave me estimate DID NOT translate into your being nice to me. Sad to say you were down right nasty especially before the last day! 6) Rerouting baseboard was only discussed as to whether it was okay to build a closet around it ! There was nowhere else to move the baseboard which mean the closet could not be built. 7) As for the outlet in another closet, you built it straight across to the wall when I asked you to build it so that the outlet would be exposed. After giving me a price you told me it would cost extra to build it shorter. 8) Last day of the job, who would blame me for not wanting to speak to you when you REFUSED to fix the closet on top of the outlet, when you were disrespectful in your attitude and tone of voice! 9) 8 months later review statement.... trouble walking/doing stairs due to medical procedures and finally surgery to ankle...finally the outlet is fixed but it took hours to unlodge from behind the wooden stud/ sheetrock and it cost me extra money! Thank you , Steve!!!! 10) Tops of closet where they meet the ceiling were finished showing spaces to the joists. Your closets were not amazing. Do not text me again because you do not like my answer to your reply! 11) You mean you had to add an additional clause to your Additional Terms because of my behavior? JOB: Paint livingroom & foyer, remove old baseboard & window moldings install new. Install 3 new doors. Run wires for TV, install wall mount & TV. Skim coat & paint bathroom. Tile over existing tile floor & reglaze tiles. Issues: Painting/molding- 1. Painting around light switch rather than removing as a professional would. (picture attached) 2. Incorrect paint finish used on bathroom walls which led to cracking & now has to be redone (picture attached) 3. Fail to sand bathroom door frame (picture) 4. Sloppy seams and excessive chalk used on new baseboard moldings (pictures) 5. Used cut baseboard molding for window molding rather than using what I showed him matching what was in my bedroom. TV- 1. Unaware of what wires to pull which lead me running to spectrum to find out. a. If a contractor accepts a job, it's reasonable to expect them to know how to fully complete not ask me in the middle of doing it. 2. Wanting to plaster around pulled HDMI cable after pulling it. What does one do if wire needs to be replaced break the wall? a. There are switch plates for this, I am a female who works in finance - how do I know this and not a professional contractor? 3. Multiple attempts to hang TV mount with no attempt to repair holes left. (picture) 4. Nail Damaged spectrum wire. After job was complete, had to have spectrum rerun a new wire. I removed old wire, repaired holes and painted. Damage to home- 1. Numerous scratches left on my wood floor (pictures) 2. Someone/ thing slammed into foyer light breaking inner light bulb, nearly got glass in my face when I removed it to clean. I find no joy in leaving a negative review however would not want someone else going thru what I did. **Updated in response to company** I had no intention on responding but my review was 100% honest, I can't say the same for the response. This is 100% a lie... "In regards to plastering around an hdmi cable, we simply asked if we should do so, so that there isn't a large plate on the wall or if they would like a plate installed. This has been done both ways and is simply a matter of preference. As shown in the picture, with holes behind the tv bracket, would love the opportunity to correct if allowed." You did not ask! I asked you and if I didnt you would have plastered around the wire. There was no option given you did not even have the plate to use. I had to run to Home Depot to get your crew the plate. Additionally you were given the opportunity to correct the holes as you were made aware prior to final day; you made the concious choice not to. This is a lie as well " The following day, the scratch was brought to our attention. Of course, this was very distressing and immediately offered to have the floors refinished." Per text On Friday 1/6 at 10:07am you advised " I can come back with golden oak and blend it in. It will still be slightly noticeable but not to someone not looking for it" I responded back on Friday 1/6 10:14am. I did not hear back until Monday at 10:57am but this time I had already went to home depot and made the best of situation left. To my knowledge golden oak and refinishing floors are not the same, moot point. I am sure you are capable of fanatastic work but that isn't what was provided to me. As you are aware there were other issues, missed paint spots that I had to touch up. The picture of molding is just one spot there were many. Wanting to tile around the toliet bowl. Finesse Paint & Home Improvement, a fairly new company, is clearly capable of high end painting and wall/ceiling plastering/finish at a reasonable cost. I would guess that they bring similar care to less demanding work. They recently completed work on my 12x18 bedroom where the light of day (or light bulbs) beautifully glides along the flawless walls and ceiling. The walls/ceiling were in terrible shape -- peeling. cracks -- owing to original plaster walls dating back to a mid 1950's plaster flaw. Starting with a 3-coat plaster skim Marlon quickly recommended going for 4 coats to get the architecturally smooth finish I was looking for....this was a quality recommendation and not an upsell as the added cost was truly minimal...and a great idea at that. The base moulding was to be scraped/filled before painting but it turned out to be in worse shape than expected. They were willing to do it. However, they also offered to replace at a for a very low labor cost (just the increment from scrape to install -- they have a carpenter) and allowed me to buy the molding myself and have it quickly delivered (I did not want them choosing my moulding but they would have). Magnificent outcome and one I had believed to would be too costly -- it wasn't. Walls/trim done in very high end Farrow & Ball paint which they had never used but were willing do --- it required following F&B instructions including standard primer on fresh plaster followed by one coat undertone primer plus two paint coats and 4 hour dry time minimum between coats (which some contractors hate - it probably ended up adding a day to the work). They also had to use F&B roller covers. Ceiling done in Benj Moore Aura Eggshell (simply white) and I demanded BM Aura roller covers there. I am demanding, and I also believe that in the end it is in part the customer's responsibility to make sure quality of work meets expectations and I do this at various stages. Toward the end there were a couple flaws, some unwanted graininess on a small area (not easily seen) and a dip and bubble on the ceiling-- also very subtle. And here is where the quality of the company really hits the test. Rather than explaining away the problems, begrudgingly dealing with it to make it good enough, they readily dug in and corrected the work to perfection. All at a fair price. I recommend getting their estimate for your work. But as with any contractor be very clear and detailed, in writing, what your expectations are, what material is to be used, what work "rules" are to be followed, the maximum timespan permitted.. Research is a good thing as is clarity and inspections of work in progress.
