Sell it to Anthony's! I had a 5:30 reservations for two couples on Valentine's Day. We arrived a half hour early for our reservation and passed the long line to let the hostess know we had arrived and would be waiting in the bar. At 5:30 we went left the bar and went to the unattended counter where I had checked in. Nobody was there and the line to enter the restaurant was out the front door. I asked a passing employee about our table and he grabbed four paper menus and led us to a ten place table. My wife suggested a smaller table would be better. He sat us at a six place table. The menu had three entrees offered as serving two; salmon, beef and an Indian dish. We all ordered the salmon. The waiter was frantic, he confessed it was his first night and he had never waited tables before. The restaurant was full and he was the only waiter. He took the food and drink order and left. A half hour later he brought out two glasses of wine. Fifteen minutes later he brought out two more. It's now 6:30. We finished our drinks and grabbed him to order a bottle of wine. The bottle arrived at 7:00. People in the dining room were restless because only two tables had been served. We never received our dinner order and our Valentine's Day was ruined. At 8:00 I asked to see the manager. A short time later a woman came to the table and apologized for the poor service and long wait. She said she was surprised at how busy it was and sorry we hadn't been served dinner. She said we would only be charged for the wine bottle if we wanted to leave. DO NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS HERE! Never been here before. Had reservations for 4 at 6pm on Valentine's Day. Nothing stated a limited menu. Line was out the door. Everyone in front of us had reservations but were waiting to check in. No hostess communicated with us for 20 mins. We were told that the others who were seated had reservations at 4 but didn't show up until 5 and got seated because "they had reservations" and now their dining window is spilling into ours which would be another 45 min wait. I'm sorry but I have never heard of an hour grace period for a restaurant on one of the busiest days of the year. No courtesy call or text to even get the option to change our plans before driving from afar. And to top it off, they were out of salmon. What?! We are literally dining by the water and you're out of salmon? Luckily this was no big event for us and we were able to find another restaurant to dine at that had the full menu plus a Valentine's Day 3-course menu option. read more

Came to Johnny's Dock for a dual birthday lunch celebration, and overall it was a really lovely experience! The views are always a win, and despite the place being short-staffed, the service stayed friendly and attentive. Major props to the team for keeping things moving. The menu was a bit limited (sadly, no crab cakes. Made in house and chef didn't have time to prep them in the morning), but we made it work and everyone ended up happy with their meals. The food came out hot and flavorful; the fish was perfectly cooked, the steak was juicy, and the sides were solid comfort bites. Now, about my tequila sour... let's just say it didn't quite look (or taste) like one. On a previous visit, it was on point, so I'm guessing Drake, one of the bartenders who really knows his craft, wasn't in that day. The only area that could use some love is the restroom. One stall had no toilet paper and there was no soap, which might just be part of the short staffing struggle, so I'm giving them a pass this round. All in all, Johnny's Dock has a lot of potential. Between the waterfront views, good food, and a staff doing their best under pressure, it's still a solid pick for a casual lunch or special occasion. Will definitely be back to try more of their Indian cuisine menu. Supposedly the shrimp peri peri is really good!! read more

My hubby and I came here for date night. We had an ok experience. Pros: The restaurant has it's own parking lot for easy parking. The view is great - you get a view of the marina, water, and also the large buildings of downtown Tacoma. Drinks were strong and delicious. The salmon dip and bread was AMAZING. I think we would have been happy with drinks and dip (and maybe that is what we would do if we came back again). Easy online reservation system (although we didn't apparently need it as the restaurant was not real full). Cons: We came for seafood. It is Johnny's Dock so I thought they would do seafood well. We had fish and chips and the fish was soggy. One of us had halibut and the other had cod and there was not much of a difference in taste, only price. The fries were heavily coated and did not taste great. Ranch dressing was from a bottle. Gross. Our server was a little on the passive aggressive side. She made us feel like we were an annoyance for little things like asking for drink refills, silverware and napkins. After delivering our food, she never checked back in with us. The menu is really expansve, indian food, seafood, and italian. I think they should pick one style of food and perfect it instead of trying to make so many things and just doing it average. I dunno. Absolutely terrible food! Crab Louie ($38) had a slight "dusting " of some kind of crab. It was pink and tasted like plastic. Fish n chips were the darkest brown I've ever seen. Such a disappointment. What a shame that a once well-known icon has turned into this. read more

Food was good for what was available. Friendly service. 2 star rating for the "service charge" of $116.40 (not gratuity) for a party of 10. Was told this was for the setup of the tables and linens. I watched them push together 3 tables... no special linens used. Service charge was not disclosed when booking. If I would have known I would not have brought my team to dinner there and probably why the restaurant was empty! Unfortunately this did impact the tip that was left. read more

Listen to the other reviews. Terrible. Food was bad, chefs are yelling at each other and using foul language in the kitchen. Additionally, the kitchen has a windowed door, where you can see staff eating food (probably yours). Hope you don't mind sharing! The short 5-star reviews left in the past I can nearly guarantee were made by management or staff. Not only is the food bad (maybe a menu that doesn't have 200 items on it would be a better option), but you're waiting 35+ minutes for it to come out cold. Very disappointing. This restaurant has clearly changed ownership. It used to be a seafood-steakhouse restaurant, but has added Indian cuisine to their menu. That should have been a red flag before I made reservations here. While the Indian food may be good, we did not try it. We were there to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary and were there for a bit of nostalgia. We opted for the familiar menu. My husband has the sea scallops which were overcooked and tough. It was accompanied my green beans that were barely blanched with no flavor and avocado rice. It looked and tasted very unappealing. I opted for the shrimp scampi, which was more like a shrimp Alfredo. The pasta was overcooked and dummy, I couldn't eat it. So disappointed. I used to love this place and haven't been back since it's been under new ownership. But we went on Valentine's Day. First off, they were 45 minutes behind on reservations. There was only 2 items on the menu and they were out of one. It was only 6pm. The waitress came back 3 times to ask what we ordered. They still brought the wrong food minus the appetizer which was salmon dip that came with naan bread. What the hell? Then, the meal was not what they said it was. The only positive was the live music. We never got our dessert. They were behind all night and the food and service was very disappointing. I also overheard them say then ran out of everything. I don't think I have ever had a worse experience in my life. Please bring back the old owners and make this place what it used to be! I'm honestly appalled. DO NOT come here! read more

Sadly, this establishment is but a shadow of its former self. We arrived shortly after opening and sat in the lounge for a quick bite for lunch.The carpeted floor had not been vacuumed and food scraps were apparent in abundance. Our server was not familiar with the menu. We were not informed that the chef had substituted some items in our order prior to service. The food quality was pedestrian at best. Walked in and went to bar. Met friends for dinner and ate in a lower table in the bar area. Very comfortable table. We were served by the super nice bartender. It probably would have been good to know the items they were out of before trying to order. Also the menu is in a state of change, so prices and included items might not be as listed online, they were very different for us. One of my friends and I each ordered the Peri Peri shrimp over grits. Grits were not cooked all the way, very bad, both of us not able to eat them. They brought us the basmati rice which was delicious with creamy avocado and garlic. Also the lentil cracker bread with the two dipping sauces was delicious. Other friends wanted clams, they were out. Then they asked for salmon, out again. How can a seafood restaurant in Washington be out of two seaffod staples?They had cod and shrimp which were both fine. The free cracker & green, and brown sauce was tasteless. We took a bite and left it. I ordered halibut nothing great about it, the other person ordered an Alfredo dish- food quality was far below par, presentation not great, salmon with the Alfredo apparently had been warmed up a few times and was dry. Should've had macadamia nuts on the halibut- hardly any. I felt like it would've been good better served at an old folks home, based up seasoning, or lack of. We ordered One beer, and two lousy lunch entrees 108$. We both felt it was awful. We had never been there and won't be going back. We were told they had just remodeled after being closed down after Covid- it's currently 2025- so it was shut down for years. As far as the ambience there's better - try Ruston. This location has a lot of boats docked, that's the view. It's supposed to have an east west vibe, in my opinion it's missing on every mark, it doesn't look like a seafood restaurant, or an Indian place either. The two vibes just don't seem to match. Restaurant appearance, and the food quality, deserve a zero. It looks old and still dated- the food lacks taste. Bar is limited. The only thing that brings their score up is the people hanging out maybe the owners or hostesses- plenty of staff not busy- they were so nice, friendly and welcoming. Thanked us for coming. The friendliness is on point, sadly the food is poor, atmosphere is like that of an institution.. Dry salmon-tasteless, with sauce spilling off the plate by the time it arrives. There may have been 5 elderly folks in the restaurant- maybe this is the crowd they are going for and why the food seems tasteless- hopefully they will find their crowd. Went for New Year's Eve lunch. Inside was freezing. 2 heaters broken, 3rd working but not turned on overnight. Temperature inside in high 30s. Staff working with jackets on. Wife ate meal with gloves on and everyone in our party had their jacket on. $80 filet mignon steaks were tough, had to be sawed through with steak knife. For $80, steaks should be tender enough to almost cut with a fork (Ex. steaks at Ruth Chris, El Gaucho, Stanford's). Balsamic Rice was tasteless, Green Beans was ordinary. Tempura Shrimp appetizer was no more than deep fried breaded shrimp served with cocktail sauce/tartar. Tempura should be done in light batter with soy based dipping sauce. Hoity, toity prices for less than ordinary food. Total was $357 for 3 people. When you feel ripped off, you won't be back, Applebee's is better. read more

This is a first time experience, and oof the food was horrible. This was a truly disappointing experience and won't be back. The location and potential are great. Unfortunately, they 'didn't have' several of the things we wanted and were listed on the menu..apparently some items on the menu are future items. While the staff were nice and friendly, our waiter did not know about the menu or even what a whiskey sour was. We decided to go to johnnys Dock for Thanksgiving dinner. It was terrible. The food came out cold, sent it back to get heated up in the microwave. It was still not edible. Our server told the manager. All she said was that we could get 25% off the already $45 a plate price. She would not come out and talk to us. We will never go back again. I appreciate the new owner wanting to bring in some ethnic food but needs to get the basics back on menu including the previously famous French dip and sundae. Pad Thai was really dry and bland, burger was dry , pancakes (they serve breakfast all day) should be removed from menu as they were clearly made in the morning and set aside to reheat for lunch. Shrimp tempura was good. Drinks were decent. Could be a great place again particularly the bar/ but not without some serious tweaking. I'm writing this review because this place has been open for 2 weeks, I was here on opening day and it was packed and extremely busy, waited a while for everything. I came in today and it was still busy but I got my food fast, ordered the clam chowder with halibut and chips. Took no more than 15 minutes to receive both. The view is unmatched in Tacoma and the only place around here where it actually has a sunset, unless I want to go to boathouse 19... which I don't. What we were served was so badly cooked we could have gotten a tastier meal at McD's. Fish (not the salmon they were out of) was rubbery and overcooked (you needed a knife to cut it), but the carrots were undercooked, and there was a big chunk of un-mashed potato in the mashed potatoes. They only brought one side salad for our dinner for two. The waiter had to bring a second plate for us to share. And finally, after the hour and half it took to get the full "special" meal, they were out of the dessert we chose that was included. Amazingly overpriced for the tiny, badly cooked portions! A little rough around the edges, but the service from Denise was excellent and the food was delicious. My party had the Tandoori Coastal Platter for two (a good deal, very tasty) and the pasta primavera (ridiculously good, very rich).
