Dr. Armstrong is the finest physician I have ever seen. I have travelled the US for top specialists in the medical field and I have never met anyone as dedicated and caring as Dr. Armstrong. He is passionate about early detection of breast cancer and emphasized some important statistics I share below. I have very dense, textured breasts, challenging to self examine. My wonderful nurse practitioner advised me to have breast ultrasound to supplement the more standard forms of cancer detection. This visit occurred at a poignant time. It was day 2 of the Northern CA fires. Dr. Armstrong and his wife had been evacuated from their home In Napa. On his desk was a list of neighbors who had already lost their homes to the inferno. Nonetheless, Dr. Armstrong gave me the most thorough breast cancer screening I have ever received. After the ultrasound, he painstakingly taught me the correct technique for self examination, all the while instructing me in the critical importance of the BSE, as well as mammograms and breast ultrasound. Afterwards he invited my hubby to join us and his sweet Labrador in his office to further discuss the importance of early detection of breast cancer. He also made me a map of my breasts, distinguishing the location of ridges, coarseness and ropey texture. These are the scary features of the terrain that feel like lumps but are benign. I've been dealing with this for almost 50 years and finally have some confidence about distinguishing a suspicious lump from the rest! I am blessed to have been given a healthy diagnosis. I have been a very satisfied patient of Dr. John Armstrong for many years. We are also members of the same church in our community. He is very caring and compassionate, takes plenty of time to explain and discuss results and options. He treats the whole as in physical, mental and spiritual health. Called Dr. Armstrong from Oregon because of abnormal bleeding. It was his day off. I called his emergency number. He answered right away and had access to my records. He asked several questions and advised me to make an appointment when I returned home. He saved me an expensive and frustrating trip to the emergency room and greatly reassured me. I got an appointment the day after I returned home. He performed a couple of diagnostic tests including one a former doctor was unable to do under anesthesia in the operating room. I had minimal pain throughout the procedure and afterward. He is careful to explain things clearly. He will spend as much time as you need to discuss your health, in his office, after the exam. He reminds me of how physicians used to be, when they are not pressured for time, just sitting and talking over all your concerns. I had a non urgent situation, he encouraged me to wait and watch, we waited and watched for probably 9 years, finally we decided a surgery is what was needed to be done. Dr Armstrong is the best OBG I have ever been to. He is very professional, yet still very empathetic at the same time. When he did my hysterectomy he drew me a picture explaining exactly what he was going to do. He checked on me daily after the surgery. Always with a smile and a good mood. Dr. Armstrong is an incredible doctor. He stays up to date on the latest advances in medicine and 9 years ago detected my stage II breast cancer with his physical breast exam and followed up with an in office breast ultrasound. The tumor was not detected by a recent mammogram. Because of his diligence my cancer was detected early which changed my outcome.
