Bella Construction & Development

GREAT COMPANY! We contracted with Bella from Irwin, PA, to install our new roof two weeks ago. From…read morestart to finish it was perfect. Meeting the Company representative to the completed project could not have been better. We got the quality Owen's-Corning architectural shingle roof we wanted . We highly recommend Bella Construction and Development in Irwin, PA, for any roofing needed.

I have given Bella a week to get back to me at their earliest convenience so I'm taking it public…read more I was told the project would be 6-8 weeks out, which was fine. Eight weeks passed with no update, so I reached out myself. I called around 11 AM and didn't hear back until 2 PM the next day. Since the salesman originally had the wrong phone number and even the invoice has the wrong number, by the next day I was already wondering if you even had the right information to reach me or if I needed to call again. I was told Jason would reach out later that day. The next morning at 8 AM he texts saying they can get the siding done that day, but he didn't even know the chimney removal was part of the project. He didn't seem to know what the job actually included. We agreed they'd start the Monday after Halloween, no problem. Friday, the morning of Halloween and Saturday, materials showed up in my driveway and a dumpster showed up in the street with zero heads-up. No text, no call, nothing. Monday, Jason says they're delayed and might be there in the afternoon or the next morning. I said no worries. Later that day I got notice about Jury Duty for Tuesday, so I let him know I wouldn't be home. My wife stayed home just in case. No response. Tuesday, still no communication from anyone. Wednesday, I message asking what's going on. He replies saying they'll be there in half an hour. It was longer than that, and by this point, yes, I was frustrated. Jason shows up. I tell him the communication has been terrible. It gets brushed off like "well I'm here now." I bring up the chimney again. I already explained multiple times over text and in person that my insert sits under it. They took the chimney down to a point but threw brick and mortar into the top, which now caves in on the top of the insert. If I open the flue, debris will fall inside. He says they won't go below grade because they'd need an excavator. None of this was explained beforehand. Thursday, I was told they'd finish that day. I get home from work--no contact, no one at the house, materials still there. I had no clue if the job was done, if someone left early, or if they were coming back. Friday and Saturday, random people show up grabbing materials. Dumpster gets picked up. Again, zero communication. Two weeks later, I get an invoice. No walkthrough. No "hey, the job is done." No one even asked if the work was acceptable. Meanwhile I had to clean up debris left in my yard and my neighbor's yard. And the fireplace insert is now blocked with rubble. And then recently, I reached out four days ago saying I wasn't happy. I got one email after the first message, and then nothing since. It's like every single opportunity you had to do something simple -- give a heads-up, make a call, explain what's happening, check in, confirm the work, anything -- it just didn't happen. Over and over again.

Even then, it was only completed weeks later when the existing roof started to cause issues inside my home. The installation crew was hard-working, and the quality of the installation was, for the most part, well-done from what I can tell. There were some minor issues that were only explained when I inquired, but there were no major issues other than a cracked wall in my bedroom. Clean-up--outside only--was generally thorough. There was no final visual of the completed job provided as I had expected. My primary issues are with the owner and his office manager. The office manager could be condescending when I tried to ask questions. She also failed to provide an updated, significantly more costly estimate. Although I received an email from her on the estimate date, the attachment detailed the company's requirements prior to arrival. There was no estimate attached. I was expected to pay the higher amount to the foreman at completion even though that was the first time that amount was presented to me. The estimate came in the form of a picture texted by the owner minutes before I was asked to write the check. Upon request, the office manager provided a copy of the Owens-Corning shingles guarantee but indicated they do not offer guarantees for the low-slope material, soffit, fascia, gutters and downspouts they installed produced by other vendors. These items made up a sizable amount of my charges. Even so, the owner's call the day before the installation started was the worst part of my experience--a call in which he screamed insults at me for about 5 minutes. From what I could tell, my "sin" was trying to understand the details of the job, offering the reasons behind my questions and questioning their financing, which I chose not to use. Had the inside issue not occurred, I would have canceled the job on the spot. I did not, not wanting the inside problem to progress and causing more damage. I had been extremely patient with the delay until the inside issue occurred. Even then I had not demanded immediate action. It is why I found his bullying, chauvinistic attitude on the call so unprofessional, so confusing and so unacceptable. A toxic call, for sure! I can only base my opinion on my own experience. I gather from other reviews that others have been more fortunate. Personally, I will not recommend this company to anyone or use him for additional work I need to schedule at other locations. Certainly, there must be other roofers who do quality work without the owner's volatile attitude--companies that treat customers with respect.

I got four estimates for replacing the whole damaged surface with new siding. It wasn't enough to justify raising my homeowner's insurance rate, so I was out of pocket. Bucco's wasn't the lowest bid, but it was near the lowest bid, and I felt like they were the most dependable and trustworthy option. I am very happy with my decision. They got all the work done in one day, it looks great, they cleaned up, and all the paperwork was online and automated. Timelines were reasonable and communication was excellent. They got the dumpster picked up early the next business day. I would hire Bucco's again.

I had them install a new roof and gutters on my house last summer. The roof wasn't leaking or having problems just getting old. I had 4" overhangs along the sides of the existing roof. When they were installing the new roof, they informed me that they don't usually do overhangs anymore and asked to remove them. They are the professionals not me so I said okay. In the winter I do get icicles on the dormer but have never had a problem with the water getting into the house. This winter I had a small amount of ice buildup, much smaller than in the past. Because the overhangs were removed the ice reached the fascia and water was able to get behind it and leak into the house. I contacted Buccos roofing and they sent someone to look at it. They said I needed to add a gutter along the dormer to try and keep the ice from getting to the fascia. This is not an ideal solution, but I guess its workable. I was then told I would have to pay for this even though they are the ones that created the problem. They keep saying the roof was installed correctly and it is not there fault. If for over 20 years I have not had water get in then all the sudden it does because the overhangs are gone I would say it's there fault.
