Fritchie Park also has a small enclosed playground that is so shady if you need to entertain your younger kids. It's got all the equipment they'll want and some nice benches for you to chill out on. There is a soccer field and tennis courts on that small road next to the dog park. 3-4 stars. I use it often and drive there. My dog loves going. There are more dog parks around if you don't like this particular one. The people that are consistently going daily are generally nice. Sometimes park is empty, sometimes you can have up to 15 big dogs and four little ones at a time. Most owners keep track of their dogs.

There are no poop bags, so people have resorted to typing plastic bags on the fence. The bags get ripped off and plastic bits are left behind so it look a little trashy. If you come here, you need to bring your own bags. Seems like some people just leave their dogs waste on the ground and as far as I could tell there is little to no maintenance done. This seems like a park where it is up to the community to take care of it.

I emailed to ask when it would be fixed and did not receive an answer. They also haven't put tennis balls in the park since COVID, and when I asked about that, they used COVID as their excuse in 2024. So I've been bringing my tennis balls. And last, they replaced the shower nozzles and hoses with very short hoses and nozzles that spray water EVERYWHERE. Not sure who thought of these "upgrades," but they suck. Just really silly inconveniences when you're already paying per year to use the park.

After a rain shower, he loves to walk in the the shallow puddles under the majestic old oaks near the main entrance. I love the walking path lined with crate myrtles that circles the park, as it is trips to the City Bark that help me get my steps in. We appreciate that it is open late and well lit, as it allows us to go to park later in the evening when temperatures are lower. Registering was easy and I happily will pay the low yearly fee for this great amenity. My only complaint would be that the entrance needs more regular maintenance, as you can imagine dogs can get it dirty quickly and odors linger. I would like to see some volunteer opportunities on the weekends to help make it the best stop for dogs and their human companions!

Some walked while some biked. Sugar Mill is a looping trail about a mile long. The alligator boardwalk trail was closed, likely due to damage from Ida and hasn't been repaired yet. There was another trail, but we did not take it. The massive cypress are just awesome! The Spanish moss slowly wavering in the air as you walk underneath these giants is just captivating to me! We did not encounter any creatures except squirrels and a male Orchard Orbweaver and his impressive web. Sooo much space and things to do here we didn't even do all of it. There's big open fields for playing, a playground, tons of parking available. I did see the pier and water of Lake Pontchartrain in the distance, but we were too hungry to keep exploring lol $3 per person to enter the park - 100% worth it
