I went to the Dentist with my husband because he had a chipped tooth. The doctor had misplaced his prior records so he had to re-xray his teeth. He then suggested another $300 MRI and that he could cap his wisdom tooth instead of pulling it. His office was not very friendly and repeatedly told us that insurance would cover our visit-- it only covered part of the visit. We got a bill for $75 for the visit. We went to two other dentists for a second and third opinion just in case. Both dentists thought there was no reason to get an MRI and thought capping a wisdom tooth was a very unusual recommendation. There are many better Dentists and Dentists' offices in NYC, I'd stay away from this one. read more

I had an emergency molar tooth extraction that I suffered with for days. The receptionist and the dental assistants were an absolute delight and help me calm my nerves before the surgeon arrived. I strongly recommend NOT to go to Dr McIntyre !!!!!! I went in for a wisdom tooth extraction due to a cavity. However, Dr McIntyre advised me to cut/shave the top of my wisdom tooth and stitch my gums over the root, because it was too close to the nerve. Coincidently, the procedure was not covered by my insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket. After the procedure, Dr McInytre put the wrong date on one of my prescriptions and as a result the pharmacist was unable to fill it. His assistant didn't even call the doctor to notify him of his error she just told me to take an over the counter drug instead. I had made my appointment the Monday before Christmas because his assistant reassured me that recovery typically takes 2-3 days, and I will be fine by Christmas Day. My gums was really swollen by the 3rd day and when I called the assistant back to tell her about the swelling, her response was "usually the swelling peeks on the 3rd day". I spent my Christmas holiday with a swollen face with limited foods options to eat. Just ruined my holiday When the swelling didn't subside after the 6th day I went to urgent care and they gave me antibiotics. My family and friends told me the Doctor should of prescribed antibiotics right after the surgery to prevent gum infection. When I spoke to his assistant, she said they give don't prescribe antibiotic as a pre-caution anymore because of covid. The irony issss I went to another oral surgeon for my post-opt surgery apt. The DR said my wisdom tooth was not that close to the nerve and it should have been removed!!!!! Sloppy mistakes, dishonesty, lack of empathy and the rude front desk made my experience with Dr McIntyre horrible. Only exception were his dental assistants, they were really nice! read more

I had a very good experience with Dr. John McIntyre. Managed to save a tooth I had previously had a great deal of work rather than extracting it as my primary dentist had suggested would be necessary. Incredibly nice man, mostly on time, nice office staff as well. I am very skittish when it comes to dental work as I've had a lot (and a lot that has been very painful) and he was extremely gentle and checked in frequently during the procedure and after. He even called me on the Saturday evening after my procedure to ask how I was feeling - that was a first. Appointments were not difficult to get as he works most days of the week. Good central location. I would definitely go to Dr. McIntyre again with any future dental concerns. read more

My experience was satisfactory for sure. 2 wisdom extractions, local anesthesia, didn't feel anything other than a few needles and barely those. Dr is fast, efficient and has good bedside manner. I saw Dr. John S. McIntyre for a relatively simple procedure--the extraction of a bottom wisdom tooth #17 which was fully erupted, not impacted. I could barely feel the lidocaine needle. I was called in on time, saw my panorama x-ray, and the actual extraction after the local anesthetic took just 15 minutes. I had an infected root canal and my friends and family made me very nervous based on their own personal stories with this type of thing. I thought for sure it would be an awful experience. He has this outstanding ability to keep things simple and make you feel calm, my tooth was extracted without any pain and he was kind enough to call later in the day to check up on me. His quiet confidence and joyful outlook on life made me so comfortable and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone! read more

This was the most disturbing and unpleasant medical experience my family has ever had. When my daughter went to Dr. McIntyre to have three of her wisdom teeth removed, he didn't seem to know which teeth he was supposed to pull and had to return to his office to look at the special CT scan we'd been asked by his office to get in advance of the procedure. We were told my daughter would be given nitrous oxide and novocaine shots for the procedure. When she emerged from the surgery, she told me that she'd had to remind him to give her the gas and that he had neglected to inject novocaine into one side of her jaw. She'd been under nitrous at the time so hadn't said anything, but the proof of his negligence was that one side of her mouth wasn't numb once we left the office, while the other side remained numb for hours. I immediately reported what had happened to the office. When we returned for our follow-up, the first and only thing Dr. McIntyre said to us was, "I gave her the shot." He then roughly and briefly looked in my daughter's mouth, told us she was healing fine, and sent us home. Luckily, there were no complications from the procedure - he did what needed to be done, but his rough, negligent treatment of my daughter was very upsetting to her. It's entirely possible that Dr. McIntyre used to be an excellent oral surgeon, but he is now in his late 70s or early 80s, and based on our experience with him, he needs to retire. I strongly urge you to find a different doctor. read more

Disrespectful front desk staff. Watched both the DMD and receptionist arrive after my appointment time and waited over 40 minutes to be seen. To say I was seen for a "consult" would be a stretch, he didn't even look in my mouth. I hope this is a isolated incident. read more

I'm upset with myself for not looking further at the reviews-- I saw the overall 4/5 star review, but now that I'm here, I see my fellow sufferers. One star is for getting my wisdom tooth out successfully, and the other is mostly for my health insurance, for making this procedure cheaper than I expected. First off, I called and scheduled an appointment, and the woman who I talked to seemed quite scattered, but I talked to her on the phone three times before I went in. Yet, when I arrived for my consultation, I was not in the books. I can look past that, but this was only the beginning of adding insult to injury. When the day of the procedure came, I wanted the latest appointment possible because I was leaving work early to be there. I didn't wait long to be called in, but once I was sitting down, I waited for probably 40 minutes. Probably 15 minutes before getting the nitrous oxide, and then another 25 of receiving the medication. All the while, the nurses were chatting away, the doctor was sitting in his office, and I was left to watch The $25,000 Pyramid. I winced a bit when he applied the first shot of Novocain, and he said "Oh, come ON!" Then it was just one eye roll after the other, and complaints, telling me it doesn't hurt, or this is just pressure, or telling me to calm down. He acted as if he was in more pain than I was. This was all after I had explained that I have previously had a traumatic experience getting wisdom teeth out, where I ended up in the emergency room. The other doctor or nurse with him seemed uncomfortable with his rudeness. Shockingly enough, he seemed to be the most uncomfortable person in the room, and I was the one squirming in the chair. The receptionist made me a follow up appointment but said that I only need to come if there are any complications, and please, dear god, let me never step foot back in that building. read more

My dentist told me I needed to get my wisdom teeth out and so began a LONG search for a surgeon who had amazing reviews AND took my insurance. This search came to an end when I happened upon the rave reviews for Dr. John McIntyre. As it turns out, they were right!! The experience was fantastic from beginning to end. It is easy to schedule a consultation appointment- I got one that next week- and his staff is very friendly. And on this Yelp page there is currently a promotion that if you mention Yelp you get free X-Rays!! (I'm not sure if/when that promotion ends so double check on this Yelp page that it still exists before you go into the office.) But that was fantastic news for me because my insurance didn't actually cover the X-Rays. Dr. McIntyre answered all of my questions and we scheduled the surgery at my convenience. When I came into the office for surgery I was seated right away and was flipping channels while they set me up for surgery. They inserted a needle into my arm and the next thing I know, surgery is over and my person is there to take me home! They sent me home with a little gift bag thanking me for my business and then Dr. McIntyre personally called me later that night to ask how I was feeling and if I had any questions. A couple days of swelling and then I was pretty back to normal and good to go. All in all, a fairly painless experience (as I'm sure the drugs helped with that haha) The next week I went into the office for a followup and was in and out in 5 minutes. I still can't believe how professional and thoughtful he and his staff are and I totally recommend Dr. McIntyre for any dental procedures you may need. read more

Ten years ago I had my bottom wisdom teeth out. It was a miserable experience. I ended up having two dry sockets and was in horrible pain for 2 weeks after the surgery. Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled when my dentist told me the top ones needed to come out. My dentist recommended Dr. McIntyre. I couldn't have had a more pleasant experience. His staff is so warm and friendly. From the moment I met him, Dr. McIntyre put me at ease. The day of the surgery, I was very nervous. As soon as I walked into the room and sat in the chair though, I knew I was in good hands and was completely calm. Afterwards I had minimal pain and when I called the office with questions a few days after the procedure, they were helpful and accommodating. I plan on recommending Dr. McIntyre to friends and family who may need an oral surgeon in the future and, should I ever need oral surgery again, I will be going back to Dr. McIntyre. read more

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. John. He was friendly, professional, and courteous! I was a bit worried about being traumatized by the surgery so I asked to be put under general anesthesia rather then the run of the mill sedative. Dr. John was very understanding and accommondating. My teeth were impacted so it was a bit of a messy procedure but Dr. John made it as painless as possible. My recovery was quick and I had no complications. Yay Dr. John! read more

I just had 2 wisdom teeth pulled & I must say Dr. McIntyre is outstanding! He, along with his wonderful staff, are very kind, sweet & they did a professional job dealing with me & with the removal of my wisdom teeth. I was kind of nervous that during & after the procedure I was going to be in a lot of pain, but Dr. McIntyre & his assistant numbed my mouth enough not to feel any pain at all. Even during the operation when the numbness started wearing off, the Doc gave me more local anesthesia to numb my mouth some more. The night I had my teeth pulled, the Doc called me to find out how I was doing. I was very happy that he followed up! I just had all four of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. McIntyre on Saturday and couldn't have asked for a better oral surgeon. He is just the nicest man and his assistant was so sweet. If it wasn't for the impacted wisdom tooth, I don't have any other pain. I have been putting this off for many years and was very nervous about having them taken out. Don't be skeptical about all of the 5 stars. Usually I am too. I needed a wisdom tooth pulled and went to Dr McIntyre's office. I was in and out within two hours. Everyone was completely helpful and very very nice. Dr McIntyre seemed genuinely nice and caring and didn't seem to be in a rush to get you in or out. What's truly amazing is HE called me tonight to make sure everything was ok. I don't think that's ever happened. I will definitely go back to him if I need my other wisdom teeth removed. read more

Stay away! I was awake during my wisdom teeth extraction and remember crying my eyes out because I felt everything. He said "Stop crying, it doesn't hurt" which is ridiculous when I'm under anesthesia and can clearly feel what's going on. I was so upset and wanted to leave since I didn't need to recover from the anesthesia (since they barely gave me enough) and they wouldn't let me go, even though I had someone with me to bring me home. I had an allergic reaction to the medicine that he gave me. Very bad experience. He told me I'd be completely under anesthesia and wouldn't feel a thing. read more

I just had my first wisdom tooth removed today and felt compelled to describe how seamless and painless the entire process was. I had rather severely impacted wisdom teeth in 2008. My dentist who is also very very awesome referred me to Dr. McIntyre. I have had some traumatic dental work, which is usually what I lead with when discussing patient history. Dr. McIntyre said he would have no problem knocking me out for the extraction and because of medicine allergies he had no problem working with me on my pain Meds. Unfortunately the medicine we picked was not effective enough at managing my pain the day after surgery, so when I called him on a Saturday (he was home on long island I believe) he was gracious enough to immediately phone in a new script for me so I could try something else. The way my teeth were impacted they were under my back molars and my jaw bone with very little room to even pull them out, only one of the teeth came out whole. Still after all the work he had to put in to getting those buggers out, the bruising on my cheeks was very light, hardly noticeable on my cheeks. I don't know one person who had their wisdom teeth pulled and wasn't black and blue for weeks after! This man is truly an Angel! read more

Save your mouth and your mind the trouble. He messed up a biopsy on a section of my gums that two periodontists after the fact have confirmed. The office experience was abominable. The full time secretary answers the office line on her cell phone and deflects everything (including payments over the phone, which seems counter-productive if you want to actually get paid) and the proxy secretary told me that she'd charge my credit card over the phone even though she didn't know the balance. Being a professional athlete, and having zero time to get four wisdom teeth pulled let alone recovery, I must say this was the best experience I could have ever had.... & I was incredibly nervous because I had no time for somebody to fuck it up . The office took me on short notice, was easy to communicate with, and called me a few days prior to my appointment to notify me of the balance so I was prepared to pay my insurance copay that day. the doctor himself called me after my surgery that evening to remind me to sleep somewhat upright, and check in / asked me how I was doing. I did experience swolleness/soreness for at least 4 or 5 days, and he was right it did take up to 72 hours for the peak of the inflammation. I am a very small person who never takes drugs so I think the recovery time was longer for me than usual, but I healed very well and I'm completely back to normal eating habits. I would recommend him to anyone. read more
