Well, today ended with the installation of the last of 6 dental implants and additional separate…read morenon-implant crown installs I undertook at Dr. Gatti's dental office, Lexington Smile Studio about a year ago. Owing to the extensive nature of 60+ years of hard use, my teeth were worn out and in desperate need of repair and/or replacement, so it took quite a while, mostly due to the number of procedures needed but more importantly, the recovery time between the procedures, but in the end, it was absolutely worth it. It was remarkable to see the entire process from start to finish at Lexington Smile Studio and I couldn't help but marvel at what is possible with the modern dental technology they use at their office. As I mentioned in my prior reviews, Dr. Gatti, and the the rest of the staff helped me by providing consistently high quality dental care during the entire process. The one thing I learned about Dr. Gatti is that he's an absolute perfectionist, almost to a fault. Towards the end of my treatments when the crowns were being installed into the titanium implants he initially placed, he was rarely satisfied with the final fit with the adjacent teeth unless the fit was absolutely, positively perfect in every way. Most of the crowns went back for additional customization before they were deemed good enough for the final installation. In my desperation to eat really solid foods again I asked him why they implants had to keep going back to the artist/dental technician for further refinement when they seemed OK to me, so I asked him why it was necessary to keep sending them back and he smiled and said "Michael, I owe you nothing but our very best work" or words to that effect, and of course that made sense and those words were very reassuring. I have been to many dentists over the years who put crowns in for me and not one of them ever took the time to make sure there was a perfect fit with the adjacent teeth, thus causing food impaction over the years, which lead to further decay. It was quite remarkable to see the process, and of course, the final product is gorgeous and I couldn't be more pleased. A little bit about the staff at the office...Brianna his senior dental technician is a marvelous and compassionate caregiver and while she might not realize it, helped me get through some of the tough procedures including extractions and implant placements. While she is technically very competent, it was her great personality that helped me get through a couple of tough procedures. I had Rosie for one or two of the procedures, and she was likewise a marvelous technician. I am also very grateful for Marianne, the office manager who helped make the whole process possible with her flexible financial guidance. Being a registered nurse, I'm not a wealthy man, but she was cognizant of that, and made the whole thing possible by working with my dental insurance and being flexible with me by setting up a payment plan that made it possible to receive the great care I experienced. She was just great, especially when it came to understanding the billing, which can be a bit overwhelming. Of course, the ladies at the front desk, Erika and Elizabeth, were unfailingly kind and courteous whenever I had to manage scheduling multiple appointments, etc. Finally, the technician who actually made my crowns I came to learn is a master at his craft. A Japanese gentleman named Yuki Momma who I never met, but has an online presence and known all over the world for his work and the seminars he gives to young technicians. I viewed some of his online instructional video's that demonstrated how he crafts crowns that fit perfectly and are beautifully reproduced to mimic real teeth. Wow, the crowns he made for me look as realistic as the natural ones I used to have when I was a younger man, and so I feel privileged to carry his exceptional work everywhere I go. Finally, with as many appointments as I had, I feel as though I've gotten to know everyone in the office fairly well, and that's been a special treat. The team there provided a personalized experience, always making me feel right at home and #1 while in their office. I'm pretty sure most folks don't enjoy going to the dentist to get work done, but if you MUST have work done, this fine office is just the place to go. In closing, as my major restoration work came to an end yesterday, I can, without reservation, recommend the practice to anyone who asks. My personal experience over the years has shown that I don't think you can do better than by going to Dr. Gatti at Lexington Smile Studio for any sort of dental procedures, large or small. I don't think you will be disappointed...I sure wasn't and I don't think you will be either. Michael Dumais, BSN, M.Ed., RN

I even make the drive from the North Shore to Lexington to continue with such a tremendous dentist. From the moment you enter you are greeted by the most lovely women working the front desk. On certain days even Dr. DiMattia's wife is working. They remember most patients by name and will inquire about family, work etc. I usually see Joan for my cleanings. She books quickly because she is awesome. She does such a thorough job but you don't feel like your teeth have been assaulted. You leave saying wow so that's what they're supposed to feel like. Again Joan has worked for Dr. DiMattia for years. Having employees that stick with a dentist I think show the character of the professional. You can tell his employees hold him with high regard and so do his patients. Dr. DiMattia is personable and most importantly honest. You're never talked into unnecessary xrays, this that or anything else. Dr. DiMattia is incredibly fair on the prices he charges too. In this day and age when a good dentist is hard to find and many people fall victim to gentle dental or other national chains it's nice to know that Dr. DiMattia takes the Hippocratic oath to heart.

I was a patient of Dr. Jocelyn Bourji's…read morefor many years, despite consistently noticing that her treatment plans were far more extensive--and far more expensive--than any dentist I had ever seen. I trusted her judgment. That trust is now completely gone. The first red flag came when she told me my two front teeth "could snap off at the root, you never know," and needed immediate repair. I had some gum erosion, but the claim was alarming, sudden, and had never once been mentioned in years of visits. Against my better judgment and my budget, I agreed. The breaking point came when I needed a simple permanent filling after a root canal on a back tooth she had crowned a couple of years earlier. The endodontist confirmed the crown was "intact" and required no additional work. But when I called for the filling appointment, her office presented a treatment plan for $8,800 worth of procedures for that one tooth--claiming the crown was "cracked" and required major reconstruction. When I reacted with shock, the receptionist showed no surprise, as if this were routine. I requested the treatment plan by email--and suddenly the total dropped to $1,800. No explanation. No acknowledgment of the previous $8,800 plan. Just an entirely different story. I immediately changed dentists. My new provider examined the tooth and confirmed the endodontist's assessment: the crown was completely intact, with absolutely no cracks. All I needed was the permanent filling - no reconstruction at all. After years of trusting this practice, I now feel I was misled, over-treated, and taken advantage of. I have a complete lack of trust and a profound sense of long-term betrayal.

The procedure itself was smooth, including X-rays and anesthesia, and the dentist and assistant were very kind and professional. I truly appreciate the doctor's skill and communication during the extraction--no complaints there. The issue is about billing and transparency. At the front desk, before the appointment, I clearly asked to be informed about any additional treatments or costs because I'm new to the U.S. and know dental care here is expensive. I wanted to avoid unexpected charges, and the front desk acknowledged this request. However, during the extraction, the dentist noticed two extremely small cavities on my lower right side and did quick fillings on the spot--without X-rays, without anesthesia, and without any mention of cost. I assumed it was something minor, like fluoride treatment, which is usually low-cost or even complimentary, not $158 per tooth ($316 total). I was never given the chance to approve or decline this additional procedure. To make it more confusing, my X-rays from another dentist in late April showed no cavities, so these must have been very minimal. That's fine--but even for minor fillings, isn't it standard to inform patients of the cost first? When checking out, I was told the total bill was $551 (I paid $213, and the remaining $338 will go through insurance). My insurance has a $100 deductible and then 25% coinsurance, but this was never explained to me before the work was done. If the office had followed my request at check-in--or at least given me an estimate before proceeding--this situation could have been avoided. I have great respect for the dentist and staff, but the lack of communication and transparency is very disappointing. As someone new to the U.S. system, I expected a clear, informed process. Questions: · Is it normal to charge $158 per very small filling without any prior discussion? · Has anyone else experienced this here? I would really appreciate if the office could review this charge. This wasn't a case of me refusing care--I simply wasn't informed at all. Patients deserve clear communication and a choice.
