Competed my vitrectomy 5/2020 - Competent retinal eye surgeon with a great bedside manner, transparent, collaborative approach, and follow through with patients.
While away on a work-related mission, I had a traumatic eye injury (macular hole) that required a vitrectomy. As part of the routine surgery, a gas bubble is places in the eye. The doctors in the remote location deferred the surgery until i returned home, due to the high risk of flying with a gas bubble in the eye. While waiting for the green light to fly home, I was connected with Dr. Minarcik. Dr. Minarcik came highly recommended by the Fort Belvoir and Walter Reed eye staff. Dr. Minarcik has contact with me remotely and assuaged my concerns about having eye surgery. His approach was open and patient collaborative. He excellently conveyed complex terms in a manner that was easy for me to understand and make an informed decision. He was very transparent and forthright in regards to my eye status, prognosis and, surgery. He has an excellent bedside manner, he does not sugarcoat his words, but is very reassuring with his use of knowledge, confidence, and competence. During pre-op, before Dr. Minarcik's arrival, the nursing staff were praising him as a surgeon and the poorer Fort Belvoir will be when Dr. Minarcik moves to private practice.
One week post-op, my vision is improving and the bubble, although present, is shrinking. I had a positive experience with Dr. Minarcik and I am hopeful that the majority of my eyesight will improve from my traumatic eye injury. I would recommend Dr. Minarcik to peers and family. read more
