I went to the ER. Just a warning-- the wait is horrible. If you can go somewhere else you should. I went in with a pain level of 8 and came away with a prescription for Naproxen, which is glorified Aleve, after waiting 2 hours for prescriptions and being up there all day getting tests done! They do not believe in giving real pain medicine there, which is no where close to a crime against humanity, but it is still very sad.
To be fair, they treated everyone with kindness, as far as I could see-- even some people who appeared to have some mental disorders and were barking out orders and questions at the staff, in a very slow and frustrating situation-- at least one homeless lady was treated very well-- even when "acting out" due to her life circumstance of being hungry and needing food NOW.
The staff's calm and collected nature was especially impressive during this tough situation as the workers had WAY too many patients, even having to take people's temperatures en masse in a group circle. I sat next to a man who smelled very badly and invited me over to his house time and time again even offering me a place to spend the night. Eventually I had to abruptly but politely decline and eventually I moved chairs. After I moved chairs, he decided to hit on another woman in the "circle." This is what you can potentially expect here. Just be prepared.
Also, when they refer you to a specialist, sometimes they are no cheaper than any other specialist if you are uninsured, so be forewarned on that too. 'County Hospital System' does not always mean prices that are cheaper than anywhere else if you do not qualify for the JPS Health "Insurance" Plan. read more
