Jon Evans I am having to report this auctioneer to trading standards, describing and selling fake gold. This is an offence under law. It is illegal to sell anything in the UK made from a precious metal (silver, gold, platinum and palladium) over a certain weight without a hallmark - a stamp of quality that protects the consumer by confirming that what they are buying is made from real precious metal. I am still waiting for my refund? over two weeks? People should realise they are protected by law to prevent this illegal practice. You promised a refund, you asked for the return... John Milne's used to be a great place to go a few years back but in recent times most of the goods they sell are either fake, rubbish or massively over valued. Add to this the lack lustre attitude of the staff and the fact that the head auctioneer/current Mr Milne aren't that interested in the business and you have a recipe for an auction house which is dying on its feet. Milnes Auctioners is just of Golden Square also called the Golden Triangle as I was first told when I came to Aberdeen. It is a great place to pick up a bargain and to buy or rather bid for more specialist antiques. The sale is on a Wednesady morning at 10 am and usually goes on to 1pm.There is often a break about 12 pm before the furnitue sale but this can vary slightly with the sale going right through without a break. The auction can be viewed all day on a Tuesdays from 10am and until 7pm. The porters are very helpful and you can leave a bid with them if you cannot attend the auction or want to remain unknown. There is a good feel to this place and a fair amount or amicable banter. I suppose that is the best part - of course coming home with something you want with a bit of history is also very good. You can step out for fresh air and there are coffee outlets nearby , as well as parking and a cash machine. It is this kind of thing that can add to a holiday break. read more
