My wife and I bought a house this past year and decided we'd better take a step up from H&R block this time around to make sure we got the maximum amount back. Seems like he did a fine job with the actual filing, and he was certainly personable (although a little loquacious), but he seems a little out of it. When I went back two days after our initial meeting to sign the paperwork and drop off payment, he didn't recognize me as a client, didn't know about my appointment and when we finally sat down he repeated various jokes and stories (verbatim) that he told me two days earlier.
When I called back to make absolutely sure that we would get our refund as a direct deposit (as there has been a spate of mailbox break-ins in our neighborhood over the years around refund season), he rushed me off the phone telling me had everything he needed and said he was busy with another client. We got our refund several weeks later... in the mail.
But the most annoying thing of all to deal with is his mom, who apparently serves as the receptionist. She is without a doubt the rudest person I've ever had to deal with over the phone and has the distasteful knack of cutting you off and hanging up on you, all with obvious annoyance and disdain in her voice, even when dealing with the most trivial of matters.
Needless to say, we won't be going here next year when tax season rolls around. read more
