The sub-contractor they used for the sheet-rock did a poor job at first. But before I could even complain, they called me up and said that one of their guys had been out to look at the job and it didn't meet their quality specs. I had been there more than eight years and slowly realized that the longer I stayed, the more difficult it would be to advance my career. After all, I had been doing the same job for a while, not gaining major responsibilities. I started looking for another job passively about a year ago, then pushed harder in the Fall of 2021. I had lots of recruiters contacting me. I interviewed once or twice weekly. But I couldn't land that new job -- my lack of experience and time away from the industry I was trying to get back into had taken its toll. I also think there was some ageism going on, too, frankly. I'm in my 50s now. Instead of doing the same thing and expecting a different result (that's insanity), I looked into getting a couple Agile certifications for Product Owner and ScrumMaster. I didn't have the money to pay the fees. My wife had gone back to school, and I was the main bread-winner now. Someone told me that there was COVID-19 grant money available, so I looked at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center programs -- and it just so happened that they had one perfect for me.
