Best library. Staff is nice and the books are in good condition. The fee for the books (in case you forgot to return on time) is low.

Nice staff that truly cares about the youth and books that are classic and modern. This library has something I have never seen before. An entire separate wing for 0 to 10 or 11 years olds. I am impressed. When I walked in there they have two to three staff working in diffrent areas with the young children. Walk over through sliding glass door and then walk into a separate larger two floor wing. Here you find the friendliest security guard named Jerry. He sits in front of the teen's computer youth area. Then walk over to the adult area fitted with computers for the public to use (with a valid library card). Youth coordinator is fantastic. He is energetic and bringing great programs for the teens. Librarians are very sweet and always ready to help. I am very happy to call this our new home away from home.

(Not that you WANT to be walking around in that neighborhood after dark.) The library in Yorktown is only open until 6 or so. Now that I follow R.L. Stine on Twitter, maybe I should look into reading some of the Goosebumps or Fear Street books in the children's section...

I adore libraries - must be the nerd in me - and I love the Butterfield Library in Cold Spring. The…read moreadorable brick building aside, it is everything I think of when imagining the perfect library: historic, well-preserved interior, complete with (nonfunctional) fireplace; large guilded paintings of the founders, dressed in fine 19th century garb; neatly stacked shelves; graceful tables for sitting and reading; and a friendly staff. The library is small - the literature/fiction section is in front, while most of the historical and non-fiction texts are located in the larger room, which has a stage for presentations. There is also a children's section downstairs, and the library has two computers for browsing the card catalog. I've been able to find books I've wanted here, but just as often end up requesting items through Butterfield's interlibrary loan system (remember, it's a small place). But I don't care where the books come from, really - I just love climbing the front steps, opening the door and entering Library Land. Not chaotic, we-must-queue-up-New-York-Public-Library-land, but Old Fashioned Library Land, where you can gather your books together and linger, because lingering is necessary and encouraged.

I live close by and among the public libraries around, this is definitely my favorite. The main reading area has 4 tables that seat 4 people as well as a couple of couches. Each table has outlets, so you can plug in your laptop and do work/study easily. Wifi is free and has excellent speed! There are also individual rooms with tables that seat about 4 as well. The best thing about this library is that is has natural lighting throughout. This makes it a very good place to spend the entire day studying/working. The natural sunlight keeps the place nice and bright, unlike many libraries that have a dark and dull atmosphere. I really do believe the lighting helps with focus and mood, making it a great place to study! I choose this place over other public libraries as well as coffee shops in the area. It has a great overall atmosphere and I recommend it for all people trying to get work/studying done.
