The doctor stated my husband needed another MRI, but it was never scheduled, and when my husband called multiple times to ask about it, those calls were never returned. On top of that, the doctor consistently neglected to fill out the required insurance forms for short-term disability benefits, creating enormous stress during an already difficult time. Even worse, when finally pressed, the doctor misrepresented what had been said to my husband when communicating with the insurance company. The lack of responsiveness, accountability, and honesty has been devastating for us. Patients deserve care, attention, and truthfulness--none of which we received here. We are filing a state medical board complaint but wanted to warn others while they investigate this "doctor."

This was after three days of trying to reach someone to confirm the location -- and being told by their voicemail not to leave more than one message. No one ever called me back. When I finally reached someone after leaving the Ormond office, she said she would contact Orange City and call me right back. That call never came either. I drove to the second location on my own, only to be told I could not be seen and would need to make yet another appointment. By then, I had wasted half my day, two unnecessary trips, and my own gas because of their complete lack of communication and coordination. No patient should have to deal with this level of disorganization. My time has value, and I fully expect the doctor to pay the invoice I submitted for the time, mileage, and inconvenience caused by their repeated mistakes. This office needs serious internal fixes before more patients are affected.

I was…read morescheduled for an at home sleep study and a week and a half before my appointment, I received a call from Alex. He informed me that my insurance would not cover the sleep study. Being very well-versed on my insurance I disagreed with him and told him I would call my insurance and get back to him. I called my insurance and they stated absolutely it IS covered. This is the benefit. This is what you will pay. I tried to call back for four days, only to be told over and over again from a woman who I could barely understand, and could barely understand me, that she would pass my information along, yet she never asked for my name or phone number. I always had to ask her if she wanted it. Finally called insurance and the office on a three-way call only for Alex to tell my insurance company that the reason they will not take my insurance is because the insurance company has not paid them in the past. So it had nothing to do with my insurance not covering it, my insurance explained to him that he needed to take that up with provider services, and not take it out on the patients. then I tried to call to speak with an office manager to explain that I did not appreciate being lied to by their employee, and that my insurance does cover the sleep study. I then found out that he actually never even called my insurance, to get any of the information he just assumed that they would not pay even though they are contracted with them. It does not matter how wonderful the doctor is if his office staff is this miserable and awful it makes for the entire office to be awful. Trying to get a hold of someone or get them to call you back is impossible!! Don't waste your time!!

Even though I didn't get to see the Dr., I still felt it was important to write this review as a physician's office staff is also greatly important to a patient's care. I called on Monday to try and make an appointment. I followed the prompts for a new patient wanting to make an appointment and left a message, giving them the information they wanted and a short history of my symptoms and medical history. By late morning Wednesday, I had not heard back yet and decided to call again repeating the same scenario. By Friday morning I still had not heard back from the office. I called again and chose a different prompt so I could speak with someone. I was very courteous; I understand that offices can get busy, maybe the scheduler had been sick or on vacation, etc. After sharing with the woman who answered the phone that I was wanting to make an appointment but hadn't been able to, she asked to put me on hold. 5 mins later, another woman answered and asked how she could help. I shared the name of the woman who was already helping me and she said, I know, she asked me to help you. So, I asked her if I could make an appointment. She said she couldn't do that, but took my last name and let me know that the scheduler would get back to me. She didn't know when that would be and we ended the call. 5.5 hours later I finally got a call from the scheduler only for her to say that they don't see patients who have previously been in a car accident. I thought maybe she confused me with someone else. I was not in a recent accident, there was no lawsuit or workman's comp case so I shared again that it was a closed thing and it happened over 4 years ago. She repeated, "it's our office policy that we don't see patients who have been in any car accident no matter when." When I said "OK. Do you mind me asking why? I've just never heard of this." She said "sure, it's just our policy." She had this information for a week. A week longer I now have to wait to seek treatment. I'm most frustrated with how discourteous they were and unapologetic for their lack of care and waste of my time and efforts. I'm also dumbfounded on this policy of not treating patients who have, at one point in their medical history, been in a car accident. It's not a recent injury with possibility of lawsuit or workman's comp, so what do they care? I would bet that a good majority of their clients have a physical trauma of some sort in their patient history. This boarders on discrimination and speaks volumes of this office to me and the care I am seeking. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere.

On Monday evening, I arrived to ER at my PCP's urgent urging. They quickly processed me through, gave me my bloodwork and imaging. The waiting room was packed. One man spent hours crying out with abdominal pain. Another crazy had a few outbursts requiring security. I lost track of time watching elderly patients going unattended. I saw no less than three patients leave in desperation. Somewhere between 8 and 10 hours later, with no contact by medical staff to let me know what was going on, I was finally given a room in the ER. I can't be certain about the times, but I got settled around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and spent the rest of the night listening to a blind elderly woman screaming from her gurney in the hallway outside my room. I may have slept an hour before a staff member burst in and turned on the overhead lights to take my blood pressure again. In the morning following doctors visits they told me they'd found a room. I was rolled down the hall to what I call a tent room. The hall was a loud pass through with loud traffic and desks and noisy machinery rolling by. At my own home I had been sleeping on and off during the day. This new accommodation would keep me awake all day and into the night until I was too tired and slept until the nurses' station staff were laughing and telling stories throughout the night. While the doctors and nurses and professional staff were attentive and knowledgable, if you're looking for a hygienic, quiet repose, don't come here! (PS I am getting better though)

The staff here was really friendly and accommodating and I found the layout of this hospital to be very user friendly with good signage throughout. We found our way to our friend's room without any assistance and had a wonderful visit. I was told the level of care has been amazing and attentive, so we all have high expectations that the results will match the staff's professionalism and competency - I'm sure I'll return a few more times in the next few weeks to check on my buddy but it's reassuring knowing he is receiving the best care possible...

A young Black woman in her mid-20s reportedly presented to the ER in a sickle cell pain crisis and was met with what appeared to be condescension, patronizing language, and dismissal of her pain. Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that disproportionately affects African American patients and is well known in medicine for causing severe, excruciating pain crises due to blocked blood flow. These crises are considered medical emergencies and are commonly treated with timely opioid pain management when clinically indicated. In the video, the physician was seen talking down to her, due to her need for appropriate pain relief medication while citing vague statements like "studies show it's dangerous," despite the patient being in an emergency setting and clearly in distress. To many viewers like myself, this interaction reflected a lack of empathy, outdated or misapplied reasoning, and troubling bias, particularly toward a young Black woman advocating for herself. Regardless of intent, the encounter raised serious concerns about how pain, race, and chronic illness are handled in emergency medicine. Patients with sickle cell disease already face significant stigma and disbelief in healthcare settings, and situations like this only reinforce that fear. I hope Halifax Health takes these concerns seriously and prioritizes compassionate, evidence-based care for all patients.
