I had put off finding a new dentist for quite some time. I met with an office member that couldn't have been nicer. As it can be embarrassing explaining this, she was companionate and stated there were a couple of hygienists who would be great for me. The day of my appointment I was nervous going to a new place and it had been so long but was okay because of the talk with the office staff. I went back with the hygienist who was friendly but it took a short amount of time for me to realize she knew nothing; she didn't know I hadn't been to the dentist in years, didn't know about childhood trauma, she had no idea I was nervous...... She was again friendly (smiling) but not a good fit for someone in my situation. She didn't explain things; yes a lot has changed over the years; I honestly sat confused how this appointment could have gone so wrong after being reassured when I made the appointment; a mistake had to have been made. I finally spoke up a couple of times asking questions especially when I was being taken to another room for an X-ray after having X-rays in the first room. I was clueless at what was going on and she wasn't explaining. When I got up from my chair I was sweating so bad you could see the outline of my body in the chair. I kept thinking when was it going to be over. Then another thing done I had never had done and didn't know what it was; I finally stopped her and asked her what this was. As she smiled, she would I'm sure be good for someone who goes to the dentist every 6 mo and knows the routine and doesn't need anything explained but in my situation, not a perfect fit. At that point I was thinking with the hygienist, I was never stepping foot in there again. But then I met Dr Hana; absolutely calming and compassionate. It was obvious he knew my situation. When I left, I left now torn about going back. I thought if I could just get a different hygienist I would be okay. Time lapsed past my 6 month appointment, I received emails, text messages and post cards to make an appointment. One day when I received a text message, I texted back about my experience. Stated I didn't know if I wanted to come back because of the hygienist but was thinking about coming back because the dentist was excellent. Attached is the response I received; then ghosted. I repeated that I didn't want to speak ill of the hygienist but not a good fit for anyone in my situation. I know for a fact as the employees are good, every employee excels in different areas. I was hoping since my initial office staff encounter was excellent and encounter with the doctor was excellent, a different hygienist would be a good resolution. I thought a mistake had been made. Instead it is stated they would reflect on what could have been done better? Not an attempt for a resolution? Not an offer of a different hygienist? Not I'm sorry, maybe she was unaware of my situation? Not, maybe there was a mixup with appointments and I received the wrong hygienist? I finally gave honest feedback hoping there would be an easy solution; a different hygienist. This puts more shame towards people that don't feel comfortable at a dentist. SO disappointed.....

She was militant about getting every bit of plaque off my teeth. She did not do a fluff and buff and smile-for-the-mirror trick. I've had that and wondered why my appointment was so fast. Unfortunately for Melissa, I had bad plaque from a year and a half of my jaw being locked shut and my fear of humiliating hygienists. I told her up front to please not educate me, a middle aged woman, about the values of flossing. Flossing gives me headaches and I'm a chronic migraine sufferer. I can't say I'm the best flosser! She was completely respectful. She quickly learned I still have a sense of humor about it all and we had a couple good laughs. She seemed to ENJOY getting every last bit. The most important thing is she never once humiliated me. My teeth haven't been this clean in years. I'm loving to smile in the mirror now. I can't quit rubbing my tongue on the slinky insides of my teeth. I feel so clean!!! i've been longing for years to find a good hygienist attached to a good dentist who won't gouge me. I drove from Royal Oak to this place to have this good experience. I thank Kenika who works there for referring me. Honestly, from reception to hygienists/assistants, to the Dentists themselves. They are all caring, friendly, and great at their jobs. The office is always clean and comfortable, plus the rooms have nice murals or tvs to look at while they clean your teeth. We started as patients of Dr. Caris, who was absolutely phenomenal, but he has recently retired and passed the torch onto Dr. Buhay. We finally got the chance to meet him recently, and he too was fantastic! I have two young girls (they are 8 and 6), and they were a bit nervous to see a new dentist. He introduced himself to them as Dr. B, and he was incredibly kind and patient with them which really put them at ease. It was a great relief to us. Unfortunately they each ended up needed a filling, and they were able to schedule us in within a week to have them filled. When we brought them back, Dr. B (or Dr. Beautiful as my daughters have deemed him lol), and his team, were able to explain everything to them so that they were comfortable with the procedure. Both girls left with huge smiles on their faces. Honestly, my kids were smiling walking out of the room immediately after getting a cavity filled. If that doesn't speak volumes in itself about what a great place Farmbrook Family Dentistry is, then I don't know what else could. I genuinely feel like my family is in good hands with this office. Needless to say i will never step foot back into that office. He has lost me and the rest of my family and friends who i have reffered to him as patients. I was just told the above was included in the membership. I received a cleaning on January 14, 2019 and upon leaving was thoroughly surprised I owed an additional $135. Being caught so off-guard I used a credit card not knowing how I was going to pay that. I left. The 2nd visit had to be used within the year. I called in November 2019 to schedule appt and asked why the $135. Oh, I knew, everything was explained to me and was passed from the receptionist, Brittany to the hygienist to Laurie the office manager. It's an extra periodontal fee and I knew. No. Not true. I was so frustrated at being passed around I hung up. I researched for info. I called December, 2019 politely asking what the $135 covered. Brittany didn't skip a beat at yelling at me and she hung up on me. I certainly wasn't going back after that. I was at my periodontist in January 2020 who didn't like the situation. Called Dr. Kachorek while I was there and said he had no problem refunding the money. Periodontist asked me in June 2020 if I had heard from Kachorek. No, I hadn't. It was suggested that I call Laurie, office manager. Didn't have a good feeling but finally called 10-29-2020. Brittany took a message and didn't receive a return call. I called 11-5 and 11-11-2020 being told she wasn't in. Felt she was never going to be in or return call for me. My son had his cleaning appt 1-26-2021. He asked Dr Kachorek about the situation. Said he knew nothing, talk to Laurie. He went to front desk and my quiet, polite son the entire time without skipping a beat was being yelled at by Laurie. He never got an answer to the $135 question because Laurie was yelling and bouncing everywhere but. My son has seizures and came out shaking for the next 30 minutes after he smiled and said have a good night when leaving. Needless to say, they lost a second patient. I check things out. If I had been given additional info regarding the membership, I would have checked it out before I joined. In checking it out now, Dr Kachorek charges $59 more for a periodontal cleaning. I would have paid that and should have been told up front. So I am requesting the $128 back from the membership for the 2nd cleaning I did not receive plus $76 that I paid over the difference of the Perio and regular cleaning. They want to say I knew, I know I'm a perio patient. I know the deal. Well rules have changed in the last 20 yrs and no I did not know what they claim I did. While my son was being yelled at, Dr Kachorek had passed by the lobby a few times ignoring everything. That office is so unprofessional. My Perio Dentist called Baypoint twice February 2021 and is being told no refund.
