church
The St John's Church in Bergen was constructed between1891 and 1894 and is a massive structure that towers over 200 feet high and holds over 1,200 people. It's the largest church in Bergen and like many churches in Norway is Evangelical Lutheran.
St John's was built in the Gothic Revival style and was designed by the architects Adolf Fischer and Hans Heinrich Jess. It is renowned for it's huge and powerful organ and recitals are held throughout the year.
Although we couldn't get inside just walking around this impressive edifice was indeed awe inspiring. Although not as old as many of the other historic churches and buildings in Norway the St John's Church is well worth the effort to find and explore while in Bergen. read more
