It sits just above the Veteran's Center, between Forrest and Fong streets. It's kind of oddly shaped, like six small squares of park all lined up into a long narrow space. The middle two squares are small playgrounds, with added rocking horses and toddler swings. The outer squares are a shaded area picnic area, a basketball court, a few benches, a bocce ball court, and open space. It is almost entirely shaded. The park is within walking distance of Historic Murer House and Gardens, The Young Wo Memorial Site, the East Lake Natoma trail, and several other playgrounds and cemeteries. Dogs are allowed in the park, but must be kept on their leash. I didn't notice any doggie bags or dumpsters, but they did have spigots on the water fountains for dogs. Posted park hours are from 7am until 1 hour after sunset.

Adj: Hilltop Handy Family Park with a Happy View…read more This is one of Folsom's hidden gems in our books. We visit Folsom to meet friends and to explore and do nature-type activities as well as shopping and discovered Handy Family Park on one occasion. Handy Family Park is apparently one of Folsom's most elevated parks. Set on a hilltop, it's a lovely neighborhood park. Though it's smaller compared to regional parks, it's actually pretty big, it's just that it's atop a hill so not all of the space is usable for sports courts, but all of it is scenic and most of it is recreational space. You can reach this park by taking the E. Bidwell exit on Hwy 50, and then it's a really quick drive past the Costco and the In-N-Out, then take Scholar Way, and it's at 1560 Cavitt Dr. You can't walk directly into the park from the parking lot b/c you have to go UP to the top of the "hill", so you can either take the stairs or there's a longer path/ramp for ADA accessibility. Thankfully, the bathrooms are at the start of the park/bottom of the stairs so those who need to use the restrooms can get to them without going into the park. Once you climb up, you're rewarded with an amazing overlook of several neighborhoods and the rolling hills of Folsom. I've only been here in the daytime, but I imagine that it'd be extra beautiful after dark when the lights shine and sparkle all over for a night view. The park offers a lighted baseball field, a huge soccer field, a basketball court, open fields for free recreation, and multiple walking pathways that wind around for a nice stroll throughout the park while you get a nice panoramic view no matter which way you look. In addition to the amenities above, there's a barbecue with a couple of picnic tables under a covered pavilion at the edge of the hilltop so it's really a nice place for a picnic or little party. There's also a couple of kids play structure (one for bigger kids and one for the littles). My kids enjoyed playing here and running around when they were younger, but we still like coming here whenever we're in Folsom b/c Handy Family Park got such a scenic view and it's usually not too crowded. It is always a great place to bring our own picnic and hang out as a family in "nature" not too far from all the conveniences of civilization.

So when we visited this last time my husband brought his bike and the boys hit the track. We had a delightful conversation with a county employee there, he explained how they built it ALL by hand! We had it to ourselves for a long while, then the kids started piling in. It's a big space. Clean bathrooms. Picnic tables. My husband's bike will travel with us now when we visit.

The play area has swings, slides and climbing structures. There is also a shaded picnic area. Phillip C. Cohn park is part of the City of Folsom Parks and Recreation District. It was also named after the late California State Senator "Phillip C. Cohn ". Senator Cohn at one time ran the merchandise store on Sutter Street . The Cohn Mansion still stands in the City of Folsom. Overall a clean, well maintained neighborhood park .

You can find my review for Levy Park here: https://bit.ly/3wFTVhJ There are a lot of parks in Folsom that are called mini parks, but Steeplechase is the definition of a mini park. It's on a very small lot with nothing but a very small playground, a bench, a water fountain, a trash can, and a dog waste center. The play structure only has one ladder, one slide, one small rock wall, a rocking horse, a spinning chair, and two toddler swings. The ground is covered in wood chips. A small walking path leads through the park, from Arbuckle Avenue, to an un-named bike trail segment behind the park, which leads down to Sibley. I originally stumbled upon this park while exploring said bike trail. I would probably not bring a school-age child to this park, since there's not very much to do. The main advantage I can see to this park would be for neighborhood residents who want a place for their toddlers to play in privacy.

But it was $30+ and worth it this time. We took our dog and let her frolic around with other people's doggies. The water feels so good when it's hot weather. Getting in the water was a breeze! I don't have to go lower and lower walking in slowly because it was too cold. No, the water was perfectly cool. But not icy. I also like to enjoy the big field of grass with my little girl doggy. But only thing is you should arrive early for a good table.
