The layout is really nice with different areas to keep everyone entertained for hours. My kids absolutely loved it and were excited the entire time we were there. One thing I really appreciated was how clean and well maintained everything was, including the bathrooms, which is always a big plus when spending the day at a park with kids. The whole area felt safe, open, and family friendly with beautiful outdoor views all around. Definitely worth visiting if your kids love skating, scooters, or just being active outside. We will definitely be coming back again.

First let me tell ya all. I am not a skate boarder. Those days have long gone as have my…read moreadolescence. But for individuals still skateboarding or looking to take it up, the Auburn Skate Park will definitely be of interest to you. The Skate Park is right next to the Auburn Overlook Park. They share a parking lot and restroom facilities. Parking is free and so is use of each park. The Skate Park interior was clean when I dropped in a few weeks ago in a Saturday. Like most all skate parks, the rules are that all riders must wear a helmet and wear knee and elbow pads. But the park is unsupervised and I saw a lot of boarders (young and not so young) not wearing gear or partial gear. No one made a peep. Plus the city's recreation website, advertising the skate park, has a photo of a skate boarder in action without gear.

It's huge, so you won't see a bunch of newbies trying to use it. The concrete (no wood!) is smooth. I believe that there are restrictions about scooters and bikes but no one seems to enforce them, and everyone there seems okay with them, as long as you're not in the way.

REVIEW FOR PARENTS:…read more This is a SKATEPARK, not a PLAYGROUND. If your child is below the age of 13 or does nothing but ride back and forth then this is not a safe environment for them. This a place for people to practice and try out and DANGEROUS tricks. Small children who do not understand skatepark etiquette will ride back and forth, not giving the slightest concern for their surroundings which is very very dangerous for everyone else trying to have a good time. PARENTS, I understand your children look at the skatepark as this magical wonderland and you want them to have the time of their lives. But i promise you when a parent shows up with their toddlers and their scooters and their safety gear, it brings nothing but disappointment to everyone there. GEAR WILL NOT PROTECT YOUR CHILD FROM ADULTS GOING AT TOP SPEED. The next time your child wants to come to the skatepark, teach them about skatepark etiquette. Everyone in this environment wants everyone to be safe, and when young children come into it not knowing how to act, it presents danger for everyone involved. Remember, your small child is surrounded by tall walls of concrete, maybe not the safest place ya? Parents do not get angry when your child is waiting for their turn while everyone else is shredding, your child simply does not belong there.

Our first stop was the mine cave that was very cold inside and educational - they give you a phone that plays audio with all of the historical facts while walking through the mine. It's about 15 minutes and we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff member who handles the cave tour was great with getting the 7 of us situated and explaining the rules. We also checked out the Blacksmith and the Stamping Mill - both were also very entertaining and educational. My daughter got to hammer a square nail into a tree truck - cool way to leave a little mark on the place. Gold Bug Park also offers Gem Panning which would did not check out, but we saw a couple of kids having fun while doing it. Entrance to the park is free, but the mine cave tour is $12 per adult, $8 per kid - 5 and under are free! Overall, we had a lot of fun! So many cool artifacts and history to explore. I thought every single staff member was knowledgeable, friendly and did a great job keeping our kids engaged! We would definitely come back to Gold Bug Park next time we are in Placerville!

This place makes for a great educational field trip -- fun and informative. We even got to see a blacksmith in action and learned a lot about the craft during a live demonstration. Everyone who works here is super knowledgeable and really helps complete the whole authentic vibe. It truly felt like a blast to the past! The kiddos especially loved panning for natural gems. Highly recommend for families, history buffs, or anyone looking for a fun day out!
