When we first moved to this area a few years ago, Joe's was our go to after a day swimming and catching sun out on City Beach. It's roughly walking distance from the beach (maybe a brisk quarter mile or so from the sand), and is THE best kept secret in downtown Sandpoint. This place defines "hole in the wall" restaurant, and even if you're on foot, if you blink at the wrong moment, you'd likely miss it. Don't do that. This place is excellent. I've never been to Philadelphia, so I can't say with any accuracy or certainty how Joe's sandwiches hold up to the real deals, but I will say that the sandwiches and their burgers are indeed the Real Deal. Their sandwiches come in 8" and 12" lengths and burgers from 1-2 quarter pound patties. They have a fairly standard soda fountain equipped with Pepsi product, a few bottled beverages, and a mindblowing milk shake menu. A few years ago they even offered a buffalo sauce flavored milk shake. Full stop. Anyway, I can attest that their huckleberry shake and Hershey's chocolate malt are out of this world awesome. My wife and I went here for date night last night, our first time in in quite some time. Service was very friendly and attentive, and everything was made to order. Whereas I've usually gone for the Philly cheese steak or French dip, this time I did the bacon burger with pepper jack (they have a good variety of cheese available, I should add) and left with zero regrets. My wife did the standard cheeseburger with everything and we split a side of onion rings which were ambrosial (delicious, amazing, what have you). Parking can be a little iffy, but there are some spots on the street right out front. Worst case scenario, they're a very short walking distance from the big (free) public parking lot on Church street, which is where I parked. You might even need the walk if you're eating there. Inside seating is limited, but clean and comfortable. The AC wasn't the greatest, and I can't imagine the heat from the kitchen does the interior temps any favors. My wife and I rarely if ever get a date night anymore, so the whole thing was a great treat, and something I'd gladly do again anytime. Highly, highly recommended. read more

While visiting Sandpoint, my boyfriend and I decided to try Joe's as he is a big Philly Cheesesteak fan and is always on the search for the next best sandwich. This shop is located in downtown Sandpoint, just off of the main street. There are a few tables inside, however it seems like most people opt for grab and go. We were greeted by a friendly server and grabbed a table after placing our order at the counter. There were quite a few to-go orders ahead of us, so there was a bit of a wait, but nothing unreasonable. The server brought our food to the table and we dug in as we were starving. The highlight was definitely the garlic fries, they were crisp and had a hearty amount of garlic- delicious! I had the 8 inch turkey sandwich and it was good, nothing mind blowing but definitely a good amount of turkey and veggies. My boyfriend was unfortunately disappointed with the cheesesteak as he felt it was really small and lacked flavor. That's just his personal opinion, however. Each sandwich came with a Dove chocolate in the basket, which was a cute touch. I love to support and to see local restaurants thrive, so it's worth trying Joe's for yourself if in the area. read more

Great service and fantastic food. Every time I am in town I swing by for a Philly and they never disappoint.

Their sandwiches are very mediocre and extremely overpriced. After we spent $60 with a great tip by the way, we took our food to go and realized she didn't give us one of our fries. Instead of apologizing and quickly getting the fries, she asked for our receipt and took a full minute scanning the receipt to see if we were lying or not and she never apologized. We had to wait 10 full mins for the fries. Our other food was cold by the time we got them. We've never been back since. I do not recommend this place. read more

Found this cute little cheesesteak joint while driving around town looking for something to eat and man this place was so delicious. There are 3 tables in this place but the staff were awesome, super nice and cheerful. This place is a must try, get the 12in though we definitely wished we did. Also even though it's made to order it didn't take very long for our food to come out. We will be going back a few times before we leave town we have more things to try. read more

Just Alright cheese steaks.. was not blown away.. at all.. not sure what everyone is raving on and on about... Very, Very, very pricey!! My girlfriend & I were downtown and hadn't seen each other in awhile and so we met up for lunch and ended up eating here... if that's what u call it... lol.. .... we couldn't even afford our own sandwiches.. given, we are college age, broke young adults, but cmon... we had to share a cheese steak sammy, the peppers on the samich cost EXTRA... like a lot extra.. I mean that shiat should come on there already... Shared 1large fry, 2 large drinks...soda...& it came to $41 and something... I miss JOE... The Original Owner from PHILADELPHIA... Being from Kansas City (barbecue heaven), my expectations of barbecue outside of KC are pretty rigid. This guy could compete head on with the best of them. Had the pulled pork sandwich which was nothing short of amazing. Wife had cheeseburger which she bragged about as well. The entire menu is priced Right and environment is very family friendly. So I think Yelpers have it right, 4.5 Stars. First off lovely little place reminiscent of a mom-and-pop shop in any big city in America. 4 tables, girl behind the bar and the guy who's name is on the door cooking in the back and if you're walking too fast, you will totally blow right past the front door. Menu was a tad confusing, and although other reviews tout their Chicago hot dogs, they don't actually have Vienna dogs. But what I came for was the philly cheesesteak, and that didn't disappoint. And they even had Whiz! The mouthfeel on the bread was excellent, just spongy enough to soak up the juice but not chewy. The sandwich was a well-proportioned ratio of meat to cheese to onions peppers and mushrooms. No stringy fat, good hearty portion size. The only thing it said it was missing was just a little bit of the grease that you find in a typical Philly cheesesteak. But it was still a very very good cheesesteak. Do not let the outside fool you, this is one of those hidden gems. The cheesesteaks are very reminiscent of the great ones I had in Chicago. The star of the show however has to be the burgers. Made from scratch: big, thick, and juicy. Me, I'm a mushroom and Swiss kinda guy and they did not disappoint. Big fat juicy burger with plenty of shrooms, nice drippy cheese, and no scrimping on the lettuce and tomatoes. I stopped into Joe's Philly Cheesesteaks for a late lunch on a road trip from Montana to Seattle. The cheesesteak was cooked to order which took about 10 minutes and it was delicious! The bread roll was warm and very soft. I chatted with a woman who was one of the owners and she was very friendly, kind, and welcoming. This is exactly the kind of small business I love to support!
