Some of us get off work at 5 or sometimes a little after since we don't lock the doors before closing time and by the time we hit traffic 5:20-5:30 is the best we can do. If you don't want to see me and help me between 5:20 and 5:30 then change your sign PLEASE! That way I don't drive all the way across town as fast as I can for absolutely NOTHING!!!

I brought him to this vet multiple times regarding it, he told me everything looked fine-he just needed to be neutered. We dropped our dogs off at a boarding facility in town when we were going on a trip, and when I got back 3 days later my dog had gained so much weight. I asked them what they were feeding him and it was a grain-free dog food. Come to find out, Lance is allergic to grains. We have never had anymore problems with him throwing up or diarrhea after switching. Now he is 38 pounds. Do not bring your dog here!

Smith and Coleman are fantastic: they are knowledgeable and compassionate, and can always find the time to squeeze us in. Our cat has a quite rare long-term condition and although we're still figuring things out, I can't express how wonderful it is to have a vet you trust. They take the time to explain all of the treatment options and are straightforward about when investing more time/money/procedures/medications is likely to help or not. I also very much appreciate that when they're not sure about something that they say so and take the time they need to do the research and get back to us or refer us to the appropriate specialist at the vet school and then work together to create a treatment plan. Whenever our animals are sick, it's an inherently stressful situation but we know that we're in good hands at Smith and we're going to sorely miss them now that we are moving away!

When I dropped my dog off (we were in the process of adopting her- foster-fail) to get spayed and neutered (the shelter was still covering the cost of that), she couldn't understand why I would want to wait in the waiting room while my dog was getting spayed and acted annoyed when I came to check on her or called for updates. I mean I get that I was being a bit excessive but people care about their pets. It was like she couldn't understand that and was being rude about my obvious anxiety. Again, I'm sure the actual procedures are fine but what I would call "bedside manner" was lacking.

Brought our beloved dog to the Village Animal Hospital who was limping with a sore paw. He was…read moreseen by Dr. Camille Comer. She sedated him and x-rayed with my husband's approval. She then, without our notice and approval cut into our dog's paw. After this she did not wrap it and he contracted a severe staphylococcus infection that threatened the loss of his paw. When our dog was returned to us the wound in his paw was not sanitized or wrapped and was visibly swollen 3 times its normal size. We could tell he was not doing well and immediately took him to a different vet for to hopefully safe his paw and probably his life. This 2nd vet did a culture and confirmed the staph infection and immediately disinfected and wrapped his paw and started our dog on antibiotics 3 shots a day for a month costing us over $1,500 so far. We are so disappointed in Dr Comer and the Village Animal Hospital. They have yet to even call and check on the status of our pet. Even after I called them to let them know how bad he was doing. After years of being patrons of this clinic, we will never return.

Unfortunately, my overall experience left me disappointed. I want to acknowledge that there were individuals who made a positive impression. The admitting veterinarians, including Dr. Klaus, were compassionate, professional, and helpful during the admission process; her care during my cat's critical hospitalization was instrumental in stabilizing a life-threatening crisis. Unfortunately, those positive experiences did not reflect my overall experience with the hospital. Originally, my cat was referred with profoundly uncontrolled diabetes despite insulin therapy. Over the following months and multiple visits, I repeatedly expressed concern that his condition was worsening and requested a more aggressive approach, including hospitalization. Without the attention he so desperately needed, he ultimately progressed to Hyperosmolar Hyperglycemic Syndrome (HHS), a life-threatening emergency requiring critical care. In my opinion, opportunities for earlier intervention were missed. Communication often felt fragmented. During the hospitalization, needless yet repeated contacts regarding billing became an added source of stress during an already overwhelming medical crisis. My best friend and I also received conflicting explanations regarding financial decisions--billing staff indicated the doctors were driving those decisions, while members of the medical team indicated billing was responsible. As a client, it was difficult to understand who was making those decisions or why the messaging was so inconsistent. When it came time for discharge, the transition in care also felt very disjointed. My primary veterinarian ultimately and immediately coordinated an expedient referral to another teaching hospital, where I experienced more timely coordination, concern for my beloved furry family member, and much clearer communication. I also contacted the Dean of MS State Veterinary School in hopes the hospital would view my concerns as an opportunity to review the case and improve both communication and customer service. I ultimately left feeling that my concerns had not been meaningfully addressed. I understand that medicine is complex and that not every diagnosis is straightforward. My disappointment is not that my cat had a complicated disease. It is that, in my opinion, opportunities for earlier intervention were missed, communication was inconsistent, and the overall client experience fell well below what I and my family expected from a premier veterinary teaching hospital. Based on my experience, I will not return to Mississippi State Veterinary Hospital and unfortunately cannot recommend it to others.
