Broken leader (this part is what goes over the nose. Extra padded)

I am warning every person- NEVER EVER GO HERE OR USE THIS FACILITY FOR BOARDING OR CARE. We had our dog stay here for 3 nights this past weekend and our dog was returned to us severely dehydrated, bleeding from several sores on his paws, lost roughly 10 pounds, and had a broken gentle leader hanging around his neck. When we showed up at the facility they just took him from us and said we were unable to see the area of boarding (this should have been the first red flag) and took our 11 month old great dane with his brand new gentle leader away. I packed him a bag full of his toys, a blanket that smelled like home, peanut butter (in case it was needed to tempt for food) and a case of his food. All weekend we heard absolutely NOTHING. When I called Monday to ask how it went and let them know when we would be there they said "Well I am not back there but I haven't heard anything so I think it went fine". No. You need to go back there and find out. When we arrived back, our dog still had his gentle leader around his neck but the part that went around his nose was BROKEN in half. When asked about this, they tried to blame it on the dog for pulling. Our dog, although still in leash training, is unable to snap the nose guard in half. After digging more, they said they have no idea what happened over the weekend and never even talked to the weekend supervisor and gave us his cell and said we could contact him ourself. UNPROFESSIONAL. Well, come to find out the weekend worker "doesnt like to mess with harnesses" so he left the gentle leader on ALL WEEKEND. This makes us believe that the harness was either chewed off by our dog so he could be free from it, or it got caught on something in the cage and they had to cut him free. When asked if there was any video recordings so we can know for sure if we needed to be concerned about his safety they LAUGHED and said they had no cameras. When asked about why it looks like he lost so much weight they said they were again unaware of what happened this weekend but it might be because dogs get anxious the first time away and dont eat. Understandable, but then why were we NEVER made aware of this and the only reason we found out was because we had to push them and ask? I would hope that if my 140 lb dog who eats 8-16 cups of food a day wasn't eating, some effort would be made to entice him like I don't know using the peanut butter I packed him? Instead they just let it go and never mentioned it. When we asked the weekend worker about this he said "it's not my job". It's not your job to take care of our dog we are paying you to take care of at a veterinary clinic?? Huh?? The sores are obviously from him being in a crate that was too small for him which caused major rubbing. Also, all the items I packed to make my dog somewhat more comfortable while we were gone were never used. If you want a place that will throw your dog in a crate, fill up their bowls every now and again, and then take him out once or twice to go to the bathroom then this is the place for you. But if you care about your animal in any way shape or form, GO ELSEWHERE.

Hoss had a relaxing ride to Tampa.

So thankful that we found Animal Medical Center while evacuating from Hurricane Irma! We have three dogs, one of which is a 230 lb mastiff, that has extreme travel anxiety (we learned this on the 12 hour trip up. It was rough.) We were all pretty anxious under the circumstances, but when we began to pack to head back home, Hoss sensed what was coming and began panting heavily, eventually making himself get sick. Then came uncontrollable diarrhea. It was not a good situation right before another long, uncertain trip with concerns about gas, traffic, what would be waiting for us at home (thankfully it was minimal, and we we're very fortunate.) We called AMC, and they were so gracious. They had us come in right away (they were close enough so we could walk) and Dr. Reggie and his staff assessed Hoss, made a plan and helped him out with some medications. Within the hour, we began the trip and Hoss immediately laid down, and was completely calm the entire trip back. We know also have the knowledge on how to handle future trips if necessary. We can't thank all of you enough. You were all so sweet and understanding, and as we got close to home we debated the practicalities of having a full time vet in Mississippi!

You could literally see the bones and the outline of his body, they told me that was normal, and obviously that was not. His original weight with them was 14.5 pounds. I brought him to this vet multiple times regarding it, he told me everything looked fine-he just needed to be neutered. We dropped our dogs off at a boarding facility in town when we were going on a trip, and when I got back 3 days later my dog had gained so much weight. I asked them what they were feeding him and it was a grain-free dog food. Come to find out, Lance is allergic to grains. We have never had anymore problems with him throwing up or diarrhea after switching. Now he is 38 pounds. Do not bring your dog here!

Smith and Coleman are fantastic: they are knowledgeable and compassionate, and can always find the time to squeeze us in. Our cat has a quite rare long-term condition and although we're still figuring things out, I can't express how wonderful it is to have a vet you trust. They take the time to explain all of the treatment options and are straightforward about when investing more time/money/procedures/medications is likely to help or not. I also very much appreciate that when they're not sure about something that they say so and take the time they need to do the research and get back to us or refer us to the appropriate specialist at the vet school and then work together to create a treatment plan. Whenever our animals are sick, it's an inherently stressful situation but we know that we're in good hands at Smith and we're going to sorely miss them now that we are moving away!

Village Animal Hospital - This is what resulted from the staph infection. Our puppy may still lose his paw.

She then, without our notice and approval cut into our dog's paw. After this she did not wrap it and he contracted a severe staphylococcus infection that threatened the loss of his paw. When our dog was returned to us the wound in his paw was not sanitized or wrapped and was visibly swollen 3 times its normal size. We could tell he was not doing well and immediately took him to a different vet for to hopefully safe his paw and probably his life. This 2nd vet did a culture and confirmed the staph infection and immediately disinfected and wrapped his paw and started our dog on antibiotics 3 shots a day for a month costing us over $1,500 so far. We are so disappointed in Dr Comer and the Village Animal Hospital. They have yet to even call and check on the status of our pet. Even after I called them to let them know how bad he was doing. After years of being patrons of this clinic, we will never return.

I recently helped a friend by taking her senior dog to this clinic for a dental procedure. She had…read morecalled ahead to confirm that someone else could drop him off, and was told that would be fine. No one mentioned anything about needing paperwork filled out in advance. To be safe, she went to the clinic in person before the appointment to ask what else needed to be done. That's when they gave her the required paperwork. Which I suppose they were expecting me to do, had she not double checked in advance. When I arrived to drop off her dog with the completed forms, things felt disorganized. The staff didn't immediately realize I wasn't the owner, and at one point, someone even tried to hand me more forms to fill out, even though it wasn't my dog. One staff member eventually said something like, "Oh, right, the owner isn't dropping him off today," which made it clear that communication among the team wasn't great. Then, because the dog is older, I was asked to approve a $165 blood panel. I told them I wasn't sure and that the owner would have to confirm. My friend had previously been told that recent bloodwork had already been done and that no new testing would be necessary. She followed up right away (15 minutes later to be exact) and was given conflicting information. First, they said there was no bloodwork on file, then that it wasn't recent enough, and finally that it had to be within 1 month (after she had been told 1-2 months). She had the original records faxed over, but was told they still weren't acceptable. She was also supposed to get a call from the vet to discuss the bloodwork and procedure before anything moved forward, but that call never came. Had she received it, she likely would have canceled the appointment due to the unexpected charge. The final bill ended up being over $400, when she was originally expecting around $230 for just a dental cleaning and nail trim. She only found out her dog was ready because the clinic called her mom, not her. And when she picked him up and tried to address these concerns, she was handed a letter stating that she was no longer welcome at the clinic. This was a stressful and disappointing experience caused by a lack of communication, unclear policies, and inconsistent information. I wouldn't recommend this clinic. Save yourself the stress and go somewhere that communicates clearly and respects its clients' time and money.
