But if you can dodge the lunatics, there is much beautiful landscape and nature to appreciate. Parking can be tricky; there are only a few spots that are free. Check with the Visitor's Center and purchase a permit if you plan to stay a while.

A few key things that make this Park stand out: THE STAFF: This on-site team is professional, friendly and quick to resolve any issues. Deya is a gem. She truly cares about the tenants and is always friendly and upbeat. Carlos keeps my grass green and is the first one to help me carry a heavy package if he sees me struggling to pull a package out of the mail center box. And Martin, he is on top of any maintenance issue I request-almost before I finish the sentence. THE FACILITIES: It is so convenient to have an on-site laundry. So much nicer than having to drive into town and deal with people vying for machines. And I was lucky enough to be able to host BINGO which enabled me to meet several of the tenants from all walks of life. They are a great bunch of people - definitely fun Bingo enthusiasts! THE LOCATION: This is the Pie'ce de Resistance! I have such a beautiful view. I am fortunate enough to be on the water. The sunrise/sunsets are incredible! Just having this view keeps me smiling and feeling upbeat. I thoroughly recommend this RV Resort to anyone wanting a beautiful, serene place to live or visit on weekends and holidays. There are amazing places to camp, hike, and climb in here but make sure your vehicle has at least 7.5" of clearance (more is always better) or else you're definitely going to get some body-scraping going on. If you're renting a car to come out here, some sort of jeep (or a Tacoma) is probably going to be your best bet. You don't really need 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive, you just need to have your undercarriage up above the ground. Once you get in here though, there's some incredible stuff! I hiked/scrambled to the summits of (you can find my GPS files for your mapping software at the links below): Castle Dome Peak: https://peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=4071 Ten Ewe Mountain: https://peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=35522 Signal Peak: https://peakbagger.com/peak.aspx?pid=4066 There's also some really great stargazing in here, and lots of spots to pull over and have a campout. This is one of the better places for boondocking in the US provided, again, that you have the clearance. And since this is a merely a National "Wildlife Refuge" rather than a National "Park", it's effectively free and not very crowded. I only saw one other person (and his dog) in the mountains.

~ Crystal Hill Review ~…read more To get to the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge's Crystal Hill just look for the turn-off sign just past the 95 mile marker ( off the State Route 95). You will then have to drive 6 miles down a dirt and rocky road.. It's tough sledding (15 mph), but most cars can made it if they avoid the large rocks and go slow. I even saw a compact car make this. About halfway down the dirt road you'll see the official Kofa Park sign and Trailhead.. You'll then keep going for 2.5 miles until you're next to a small mountain / hill on your left. Hopefully there are RVs camping so you know you're at the right place. Just turn LEFT into the campground toward the bottom of the mountain/hill. There are several pullouts ( campsites) here, so park and walk towards the hill. There are a few trails up, all with white signs telling you that no digging tools are allowed on the hill. Walk up the trail and make your way to the top. Please feel free to go off trail as you please. The best finds are off the main trails so explore everywhere. Crystal Hill is very family friendly and you're going to find quartz ( mostly white) everywhere. The clear crystal points (very tough to find) can be found if you really look hard off-trail. Remember, limit of 10. TIPS - - 10 rock limit or 10 pounds.. whichever comes first.. - Most people collect then leave their spoils in a pile for others to find.. This helps out younger rockhounds find cool specimens. - The top is pure tailing, but the midway point on the North West side has some good locations for the cool stuff. - If you see small holes in the hillside those might be illegal mines. Small, but you or your kids can crawl in and take a look. Bring a flashlight.

It is just at the end of the London Bridge to your left; the right side is the brewery. It is a free location; the other one on the other side charges $25 to enter. This one does not, but also not many people go here; this is more known to locals, not tourists. Has a playground and dog park, so yes, lots of dogs here; you can rent boats and jet skis here, and you can jog and just have a family day if you want to. I took a walk through the entire area and took a nice dip in the lake. Loved it; the water was nice, especially on a hot sunny day, and the view was amazing. I can't ask for anything better than that!

Oh my gosh Father's Day weekend was nuts with the people, lack of parking, boaters, jet skiis, too loud with everyone's music going at the same time!! Just packed. Never going on holiday weekend again. My favorite time to go is weekdays. Not busy at all, much more peaceful and not as many boats as on holiday weekends. I can spend the whole day at this place & my dogs love it too!!

Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation area has the BEST dunes for sand lovers & their toys. Glamis &…read moreGordons Well have several camping areas, as well as promising days of fun & great riding for all levels. My review is mainly about Gordons Well, but I mention Glamis too. Glamis is considered the north side of the dunes, while Gordons Well is on the south side. Its an easy ride along the Sand Highway which connects the two if you want to go from one to the other ; About an hour or two depending on speed, stops, and whatever. Gordons Well is just 36 miles past El Centro, with a clearly marked exit. If you are dry camping, you will be at Dune Buggy Flats on the north side of I-8, or on the south side of the freeway at Buttercup, or Midway. Ogilby is just up a bit further. If you want a hassle free desert experience, try pulling in at McMillins RV Campground. I have been keeping my Toyhauler at McMillins RV Campground year round for the last four seasons. I like the full hookups. Camp Manager Brit Ford & his wife Ava, have maintained the camp on site for the last 15 yrs. There are a lot of desert people who do the same as I do, and some just stay for the season between Oct.1st thru May 31st., either way, its great to not have to haul your toys & RV back and forth. They also offer RV storage for the season, orvyear round. Overniters are welcome and they have shower & laundry facilities as well. Pets are welcome, but need to be leashed. They have ice & firewood available too. I like knowing that my trailer is in a safe, well maintained park. Next door is the former Pair-A-Dice diner, bar, & parts store, now known as Duners Diner. The new owner has a great , friendly staff, the outside eating area is nice, and the place serves breakfast, lunch & dinner on the weekends during Desert Season, and attracts a crowd at times. One of my favorite moments at Gordons Well is the Sand Drags. Racers of Sand Cars, Dirtbikes, Quads & SidebySides start lining up around 3pm and go til' dusk. This is big during holiday weekends, CRAZY FUN, but the Sheriffs & Rangers are out there trying to keep things safe too. Okay, thats my two cents worth!
