PARENTAL WARNING If…read moreyou have the option -- do NOT enroll your child in any school within this district. There are ongoing allegations involving multiple staff members, including two teachers and a vice principal, who are under investigation for serious misconduct -- including allegations of sexual abuse. I was alerted to this by another concerned parent. When we contacted the school to demand answers, they refused to take action and stood by their staff -- without opening a formal investigation. The safety and well-being of our children should never be optional or up for debate. I immediately withdrew my child from the school. This is not drama. This is not gossip. This is real. And this is dangerous. Your child's life is more important than this district's reputation. Don't wait until it's your child. Pull them out. Now.

Quartz Hill High School is much like any high school. You have your cliques, your sports, your…read moreclubs and your friends. I spent four of my most formative years here and while it was not all straight A's for me, I would not trade those years for the world. I started my time at QHHS in 1997, the first year of the International Bacchelorate AP program. I was in pre-IB as were many people who would become my friends. Honestly, I struggled with it and after a year and a half, I was dropped from the program and put into the standard classes. This is where I made my mark. I joined the Academic Decathalon team in my sophomor year and remained there until graduation. We had a great coach and he made us better every season. We never won any events but we improved and some of us even won medals. We had some good times. QHHS has football, tennis, baseball, swimming and cheer teams too. I was not involved with any of the sports. I knew many of the football players and remember having lunch with them in the auto shop. Cars were more to my liking than were sports so it was enjoyable to eat lunch in the shop while the jocks talked about sports and worked on cars. QHHS always had a strong car culture. We had annual car shows that brought out some awesome rides. Some students cars were nicer than the teachers. Yes, QHHS is your typical high school. There are some good teachers and some who are not so great. There are clubs for just about everybody. They play all the major sports that you want a high school to play. One thing QHHS has that no other school that I am aware of has is the "Ian Stewart Memorial." He was a classmate of mine and graduated in 2001 same as me. I did not know him personally but I remember seeing him around campus. He was killed in action in 2004 just 3 years after we graduated. Ten years later a group of QHHS class of 2001 alumni raised the funds to erect the monument at the corner of Avenue L and 60th Street West right in front of the office. I am glad I got to see it this last weekend.
