I went to Dr. Joe for a few years and saw him regularly. He's really a really friendly guy and I went for regular cleanings over the course of a few years. Two things that stood out as odd the first time I saw him was that rather than using a hygentist, the dentist is the one performing teeth cleaning. The other thing is that he told me my teeth we're in excellent shape and the cleanings only lasted about 10 or 15 minutes. I've never had cleanings go this quickly but I trusted his judgement. After relocating and finding a new dentist, I was told that I had quite a build up of tartar under the gums and that I was not receiving adequate teeth cleanings. I had to pay an additional fee for extra scaling because I did not receive a proper teeth cleanings at Dr. Joe's clinic over those repeat visits. I was told by this dental office that it is very unusual to not have hygentists on staff and under no circumstances should a teeth cleaning only last for 15 minutes. I did not receive adequate services here. Two stars rather than one because he's a nice guy. read more

TLDR: I did not receive proper care, and was dismissed for a tooth I complained about for over 4 years, only to later have that tooth crumble in my mouth and be found completely decayed. I would warn anyone not to go to this dental office. They are not thorough, don't seem to care about their patients, and don't take responsibility for their own negligence. I was a patient here since 2016. Beginning in December of 2020, I consistently brought attention to a molar, reporting that it hurt while eating, was off color, and overall looked different from the rest of my teeth. I went into the office to have it looked at, because I felt a sharp pain while eating. However, there was no concern from Dr Joe. I continued to bring up this tooth over the next 4 years at subsequent visits, and Dr David Joe, his son, consistently dismissed those concerns. At one point, he asserted "it may be in my head". I had X rays completed some time in the last few years; Dr David Joe looked at this particular tooth in imaging and still had no concerns. On March 11, 2025 a portion of the tooth broke off and crumbled in my mouth. This incident finally confirmed there was in fact an issue with this tooth. In visiting a reputable emergency dentist, there was excessive decay found underneath the existing filling. I spoke to Dr Joe over the phone, and he admitted he could see the cracked tooth in the X rays I had taken at their office years prior, however the plan in their notes was just to "keep an eye on it". The decay reached almost down to the nerve, and in cleaning it out, I lost a large portion of this tooth, which became compromised. This will become a lifelong issue for me because of the incompetent care from this practice. According to my new dentist, the cracked filling should have been replaced years ago. I suspect it first cracked on December 5, 2020 when I called their office and came in 2 days later to have it checked. (Again, they did not address it then, nor at any following visits.) I sent images and an email to Dr Joe, asking them to reimburse me for my out of pocket expenses, and he refused. I would warn anyone not to go to this dental office. They are not thorough, don't seem to care about their patients, and don't take responsibility for their own negligence. read more

I had such a great experience here as it was my first time in this clinic! It is a hole in the wall but it's very cute and clean! My appointment was scheduled with their hygienist, Sandy, and she is by far the sweetest, caring, and gentle person. Dr. Joe came by and assessed my teeth as well and he is also great! At first I was enamored with this dental office because they had such good cash prices and did such a good job. I don't know if it's because of new front staff, covid-19, or what, but now I've had some negative experiences and have blacklisted this place. Here they are: 1) I came in for a regular cleaning and when I went to pay they had increased the price without first telling me. I thought it was pretty awkward and bad customer service. When I asked about it, they said they raised the prices because of covid. What they should be doing is politely explaining to the customers when they make the appointment about a price change and why. Not hitting them with an unexplained bill during checkout. When paying out of pocket the price matters. 2) I had tooth pain and asked when their soonest availability was. They asked if I could come in exactly one hour and I said yes. When I arrived, I waited 30 minutes while other patients who arrived after me were taken in. When I asked the front staff about it she got very defensive and seemed offended. Why have me drop everything and come down if the doctor is not even available at that time? Then it seemed he was actually on his lunch break so when he came in to see me he was in a big rush, did the procedure very quickly, and brushed off my questions saying we could deal with them next time I come in. The worst part of it is that he didn't even resolve my tooth condition, but instead made it worse! After the procedure, my pain multiplied and then gigantic bumps/blisters formed on either side of my tooth! The next morning I went to a different dentist in the neighborhood who said the procedure was done over an untreated infection (I TOLD Lawrence I believed there was an infection). So this dentist had to undo the work that Lawrence did and of course I had to pay for it. Next time don't bother being "helpful," supposedly accommodating me in your schedule and then screwing me over. OMFG - on top of it they are now complaining that this review hurt their feelings!!!! Seriously?!!!! How about an apology and a refund?!!! How about I file a lawsuit for MALPRACTICE!!!!!!! Unbelievable. read more

I took a spill and chipped my two front teeth. I no longer have dental insurance so was very apprehensive about calling around to see how much it would cost. After reading great reviews on Yelp, I thought I would give this place a chance. They set me up with an appointment the very next week. The woman on the phone quoted me $135 to start out. I arrived to my appointment 10 minutes before my scheduled time and was asked to fill out the obligatory paperwork. The waiting room had a variety of magazines ranging in interest level. I was called back at 2:10, ten minutes after my appointment. Not bad. The dentist shook my hand (I forgot her name--I am terrible with names) and she sat me down. She asked me how the chips occurred and then gave me an estimate of how much it would cost. She quoted me $110 for the one tooth and $125 for the other (since that tooth had two chips.) I asked her if she could just file them down for me before I agreed to get the bonding done. She said sure. After filing my teeth down ever so slightly she let me look in the mirror to examine the work. The chips were still very evident so I told her to proceed with the bonding. I appreciate that she gave me this option. It is reassuring when the doctor has the patient's best interest in mind. My entire appointment lasted only one hour. It wasn't painful, uncomfortable at times, but never painful. After she was done, she let me look in the mirror again. There was a slight pointed edge on one of my teeth. I pointed it out and she said she would file it some more. She was very patient with me as well as comforting. They didn't charge me for the consultation or initial exam. The only thing I paid for was the bonding itself. She said the bonding will last between 5 and 10 years depending on how I take care of it. Dr Joe (and everyone at the office) is amazing!! I have been going here for the past 6 years- first as a USC grad student, and so many friends have since become regulars and so happy with the choice. Since graduating I had to switch insurances and the newest place I went downtown was a a nightmare, after deciding to just see Dr Joe to double check he a look at the i X-rays in which they said I had 4 cavities(!!) and said I was completely fine. I am very sad to write this review. When I first left the place after my appointment I was happy, but then it all landed on me. So let me tell you, I went here because of all the good reviews and because they had a fair pricing since I payed out of pocket. I called the office and I talked to Mr. Chong (I believe you spell his name) and it all seemed good. I needed a simple bonding on my front tooth since my previous one had fall off. I went there and I got such a good impression. I got to wait 40 minutes but I'm used to waiting in this city. Dr. Chong started to work on me and I'm scared of going to the dentist but he made me feel secure. While he was trimming and shaping on my right front tooth (which needed the bonding) I felt how he was working on my left front tooth aswell. I got panicked and made some noise, he proceeded. Afterwards he said, "I worked some on your other tooth too to make it look better." And at that time I thought that was really nice of him. And he continued with saying "next time you can come in and fix that tooth aswell". I know it's not 100% straight but I really didn't have a problem with that tooth. But I like to think that he was coming from a good place. The day after it landed on me that he did not ask me if he could work on that tooth (the tooth that was fine even if he did it with his heart in good place, that's simply not ok and I saw in the mirror and felt that now my left tooth is uneven on the front of it (hard to explain) there's a bending in it, probably cause he was to hard with the machine. The tooth is now thinner and bumpy. And let me tell you, it was NOT like that before. The right tooth that I actually had a problem with - the bonding is whiter than the rest of my teeth and is not straight. I'm highly disappointed. Especially since I thought that I found a dentist I would like to return to. And more so because now I need to go to another dentist, spend more money, and fix a tooth that I never had a problem with because he was too hard on the machine!! read more

Dr Chong is such a wonderful dentist! I avoided going to the dentist for over a decade bc of bad experiences. Finally, my husband convinced me that Dr Chong was different and I made an appointment. I went in with what I felt were multiple embarrassing dental issues, but he put me right at ease. He quickly and thoroughly gave me the best cleaning- it did not hurt one bit- he is so gentle. My first dentist committed suicide and my last one retired in her 40's...I blame my breath which could start the windmill on an old Dutch Oil Painting. I don't like anything or anyone digging around in my mouth. I went here for a check up and was told that I needed to have 5 cavities filled. It seemed very odd because I have never had a filling and my teeth are in great shape. Also, I had no symptoms, pain, sensitivity etc. I had a cleaning 6 months prior where the dentist said my teeth were perfect. I had a bad feeling that I was being scammed. I saw two other dentists to get a second and third opinion and was told that I did not need any work done! It makes me nervous that a dentist would recommend fillings that were not needed. I don't think it's a coincidence that they said I needed them AFTER they checked my insurance and found out that I have no co-pay for fillings. Also, when I asked if it was necessary the dentist said, "You have the insurance so why not use it?" WTF???? If this place tells you to get work done GET A SECOND OPINION!!!! If Dr. Chong was the only dentist I had in my life, I would never understand why people fear/hate seeing the dentist. I was experiencing an excruciating toothache when I searched for a nearby, affordable dentist - yelp to the rescue! I was able to snag an appt the morning that I called and Dr. Chong took total care of me. After a quick examination and x-ray, he determined there wasn't anything with my tooth; either a sinus infection and/or teeth grinding were the source of the problem. He addressed both issues, prescribed me some meds and sent me on my way. On top of which, the whole visit was ridiculously affordable, which I, not having dental insurance, especially appreciated. I think i am in love with the dentist! I've always hated the dentist but love coming here. I discovered this place on Yelp and was impressed by the professionalism and passion that exudes in this place. From the first phone call to schedule an appointment, front desk was super accommodating, to a welcoming smile from Christine. The dentist's knowledge and confidence, the hygienist's thoroughness and demeanor. I feel like my teeth are precious here and the staff is just as invested in my teeth's health as I am. I trust that I will not be overcharged or directed to do a procedure that I don't actually need. I travel a lot for work but have been feeling a lot of sensitivity in some of my teeth and wanted to cram in a dental check-up and cleaning on my three day breather in LA before heading back out for work. i called the dental office, they didn't have any availabilities for the dates and times i was available. Front desk attendant said she'd try to move things around to fit me in. Not even an hour later she called my cell to confirm she'd been able to get me an appointment for the time that I was available. This meant a lot to me. She could have just blown me off or scheduled me in three weeks time, but no, she went through the trouble of making it work for me and i really appreciated that. When I arrived to my appointment (almost a year since my last visit) they were familiar with my file and had taken the time to look it over before bringing me in for a checkup. Two dentists work at this office. Dr. Joe Lawrence and Dr. Darryl C. Chong. My doctor is Darryl Chong, but he was busy with a client so Dr. Joe Lawrence saw me at my scheduled appointment time and not a minute late! This shows a lot of comradery between the two dentists as well as a lot of integrity in not wanting to make their patients wait. The Dr. Lawrence eased my fears about my teeth and explained why I was having sensitivity. Dr Chong came into the room and asked if i didn't mind waiting 20 minutes for my cleaning since he was still held up with a client. He is my dentist and i wouldn't trade him for the world! So i agreed to wait. Doctor Chong is young, friendly, professional, charismatic and knows what he's doing!...plus it doesn't hurt that he's a total cutie! He made the uncomfortable intrusive process of probing and drilling a relatively peaceful one! Normally I feel stress and anxiety at the dentist but not here. They have so much confidence and love for what they do that you can't help but go along with it gracefully too. The waiting room has comfy couches and sofas. A big fish tank with little fish that is peaceful to look at while listening to the old school music overhead. Plenty of magazines if you get bored, and quite a load of information on dental health. Children's books, crayons and colors as well as dental health literature for kids too! They take credit card. They have free parking in the back. I advise you to call ahead and make an appointment though I'm sure they'll take a walk-in. But if you call ahead they will work with you so better just make the phone call. First time I came I was in terrible pain and I called only to be given an appointment within the hour! And it's not like they are not busy, they are packed with clients and appointments but they truly care and don't want you suffering so if it's an emergency or you don't have a lot of flexibility as far as your time, they will work with your schedule and help you out! If only all doctors experiences were this pleasant. I have been to other dentists around town that I have discovered through Living Social deals or Groupon and even the better ones don't measure up. This guy was pretty dang awesome. I was starting to get a little mad because it was takin a bit to get me in the seat, but reality is the office was busy. I came in signed up with the front office hoping to get it done ASAP as I had some other work stuff to attend to. Dr. Joe brought me into his office and was like whats up? I told him where it hurt and told him I had to head out fast... He was like no problem, get you out in 35 min, he got me out in 20... Removed a cavity and gave me a filling. Bout $140 and I was out. I was numb for a bit, but it was totally worth it. That tooth was bothering me for a while. He took care of me and set up my cleaning and future visit. Dr. Joe has been my dentist for about 18 years. His brother is best friends with my uncle so we always have a great experience every time we have a dental appointment. The facility is clean and there is a huge waiting area, where you can sit and read magazines while you wait. They will also send you a 6 month reminder card when it is time for you to visit. Dr. Joe also cares about his patients and he remembers the last conversation you've had with him. I hadn't been in for a while but he remember what we talked about! Awesome. Dr. Joe also recommended me to other doctors when I had braces back in high school. I remember as a kid he used to pull out my super loose teeth with ease and I didn't even know it was out. They do all sorts of dental services. They take X-Rays, clean teeth, whiten teeth, dentures and other dental services. Parking is kind of tricky. There aren't that many parking spaces in the back but there is a smaller lot located next to initial five parking spaces. You could park on the street. It is hard to find a reliable dentist nowadays. I have pretty bad teeth so I knew I needed a lot of work done, and he does it all in the convenience of his office. No more being sent to the endodontist, which equals more money for my pocket! BEST DENTIST EVER. Seriously. I needed a cleaning, I have no insurance and something weird was happening with my gums. I called on Tuesday, when the office is closed. They called back the next morning, and they had a cancellation that afternoon and could see me then. I went in, filled out some paperwork and was seen immediately by Dr Joe, who was very friendly and not at all judgmental about my former-tongue-ring-caused gum damage. The prices are more than reasonable, and I had a full cleaning, an x-ray, and scheduling of another appointment in under an hour. And I left feeling rather optimistic about my gum-recession. I hadn't been to a dentist in a couple of years and I was really nervous about going, was afraid of the pain and of the amount of money I would have to spend. I made an appointment with Dr. Chong, and I couldn't be happier. Last year when I went for my first appointment I didn't have dental insurance and I thought it was going to be super expensive and it was going to be very painful, I was wrong with both. Dr. Chong is excellent. He's a young NYU trained dentist brought on by Dr. Joe to eventually take over the practice. Dr. Chong said that Dr. Joe was actually his own dentist while growing up and that he was such a good dentist that his family kept coming to him even after they moved to Anaheim. I had my first office visit today and was assigned to Dr. Chong. He was friendly and skilled. He never once tried to upsell me. When I asked him about teeth whitening, he even recommended that I try Crest whitening strips first as they were a better deal. The office is in need of some redecorating as the building and interior are outdated. However, the quality of the service will bring me back for years to come. read more

ive been to ALLOT of dentists in my young life....(hey! i got a busy mouth!)....and drjoe is BY FAR the most talented, kind, GENTLE oral artist i have employed, he is brilliant. he originally took the charge of fixing/correcting another dentist sloppy work, no easy task....several visits later not only was my mouth healthy and my smile beautiful, but i wasn't put out onto the street with dental payments. drjoe is very fair with his pricing (heck he could charge more!), but hes the best....i do think he is the happiest dentist i have ever chaired. as a result, my whole family goes and on a regular basis now!! hey, when the experience is fun, pain free, the work is perfect and beautiful, AND your not over charged, you come back. thank you dr.joe for saving my teeth, my bank account, and my smile.....how awesome is it to smile again! This is during the Covid 19 era and my own dentist was closed. A big piece of tooth broke off and I thought I was going to need a crown. I tried another dentist office that claimed they took my insurance but it turned out to just be a carrot to get me in and then try to upsell me "crown preparations" for cash. Left there fast. My daughter recommended Dr. Joe Lawrence and said she was very happy with her dental services there. The office was open for emergency treatments. I was given an appointment right away. He was very friendly and helpful and explained everything as he went along. He said that in fact, a filling would handle the chip and he did not even need to use anaesthetic. He could have easily sold me a crown and made the big bucks, but instead chose to be honest and save my tooth. He did not charge a lot either. Dentists that are that ethical are hard to find. Dr. Chong is an exceptionally great dentist. Big smiles and friendly talks make me want to go see him more often. ( I currently don't have any cavities...) Procedures are always quicker than any dentists I met in my life, and precise. I also love to see fishes in a tank they have in their lobby. Especially, my favorite is a pale fish which has a weird suction cap on his mouth. He has an attitude problem and always being mean and chasing others around. (WTF!) I was pretty skeptic about coming here, as my teeth are super important to me, and they had misplaced my insurance information and seemed a little disorganized upon my initial visit... but I was immediately put at ease with the care and quality of work that Dr. Chong provided me. I've been here three times now, for cleanings and to have bonding done, and each time I was seen immediately and had a great experience. The bonding I had done was (actually) perfect. Dr Chong seemed to have impressed himself with how amazing the bonding matched my teeth color and how symmetrical my teeth turned out.
