Pool and playground in North Beach. Spring blossoms on trees and fenced off all the way around makes for a safe feeling. Only two ways in and out. Don't know anything about the indoor pool but the playground is solid. Some slides and play structures. From the park you can see Coit tower and the big church towers soaring in the air. Very clean and well maintained. Next to the playground is a tennis court and basketball court. You might find some kids riding skateboards around there. Well lit and a pleasant place to be. Its in a hilly area yet everything here is perfectly level - I'm sure at a great cost. I think this neighborhood is one of the most fun in the city. For people where money is no consideration - I wouldn't be surprised if they would choose to live here. I sure love it.

Love this park! I used to come here once in a while when I was younger and I tagged along with my brother and his friends. While he played basketball with them, I played by myself on the playground like a loner I am. It's huge! And they have a swimming pool, tennis court! Booce ball court &&&&&&&& the North Beach Library is right at the corner!! It's good to go after play time so the kids can calm down! I took my niece here today for the first time. Let her play on the playground. But not too long as there were many children there. It was really crowded. She was really happy to come here today as it's a new park for her.

A gathering place I've lived in North Beach for over two decades. Back then the playground's official name was "North Beach Playground", and it was a bit behind on maintenance. Then when the great Joe DiMaggio passed away, the city decided to rename it. The story goes that the Hall of Famer's state did not take kindly to the fact that his name was associated with a rundown playground. So in 2005 the city completed a $7.5 million renovation and significantly improved the facilities. The park is a great place for all in the neighborhood. Families can bring their kids and take advantage of the kids playground. There are tennis, basketball, and Bocce courts, a public pool, and a multi-use community building with table tennis tables available for all. For more than 20 years a bunch of us used to gather there our weekly game of soccer every Thursday night, but that stopped as the number of "retirees" grew. I still visit once in a while for different reasons, but if anyone is getting the soccer game going again, I'd love to join! :-)

We were on our way to North Beach to have brunch with some friends and walked pass this park on the there. Our girls (4.5 and 2.5 years old) saw the playground and of course wanted to go there to play but we didn't have time and so stopped back after we were done with our lunch. The park was spacious and has separate sections for different age group but it's nice that they have gate for the actual playground so no little ones can get out. They offer free open play in the recreation room and the bathrooms are actual flush toilets that are outside versus porta potties like we have here in Minnesota. The two slides that they have available are a little too fast for our 2.5 years old to want to go down on her own. By the bathroom, there are basketball courts and tennis courts. Inside the rec room, they have games and a table tennis available. When were there, there was a big birthday party going on and so I guess you can have parties here. We love that the place like it has been renovated because everything looks new and clean.

I was headed on a pilgrimage to the North Beach Branch Public Library when I discovered the Joe DiMaggio Playground which is adjacent to it. The Joe DiMaggio playground is quite alright as features a large children's playground complete w/ swings, large slides, & artificial turf. For adults there are four basketball courts including one full court, a swimming pool, three tennis courts, & pull up bars. This isn't a place to really have a picnic yet if basketball, tennis, swimming, or bringing your children to play in the playground sounds appealing then this place is for you. Joe DiMaggio grew up in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco as one of nine children of Sicilian Immigrant parents & grew up playing in this playground named after him.

Swings are broken and that sucks. I never see any maintenance done on this park but that's SF in general. I'm not from here so of course my impression of SF parks seem like crap.

This park is one of few parks for young families with kids. The playground is child centered. There's also a huge yard for basketball, soccer and other sports.

a review from @amom2kidsandapark Located right along the cable car line, this fun play area with rec opportunities is a perfect addition to a SF day plus it's walking distance from Fisherman's Warf. Along with the shiny play structure and fun playground elements, this park has a full and two half basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, four square, bocce ball courts, an indoor swimming pool, and a library. The play area is completely gated in inside the already gated in park (double security for the runners ). There is a huge climbing dome with sideless bottomless slide, a climbing merry-go-round, a spinning cup, bucket swings, a swinging meets teeter-totter (so much fun!), and a mosaic fish sculpture that you can climb in and on. The play structure is on a higher level of the play area and is accessible by a ramp or amphitheater-style steps has two slides (a spiral and a double), steps, ladders, a sliding pole, a bridge, activities, a small and climbing wall. The double slide is long and goes from the structure through the amphitheater-style steps to the lower level of the playground. Nearly all of the flooring at this park is astroturf. There are bathrooms. Street parking.

Playground, Basketball Courts, Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts and Library... what more can you ask for? I live a block away and I've gone a couple of times in the past to play tennis and basketball (HORSE/Around the World) with the roomie -- I should take advantage of going here more often... ...Now that I have someone to play with, I think I will play tennis here on a daily basis. Ian and I have gone twice on a Monday night (around 6p), the courts are usually full, but the wait isn't that bad -- we waited 20 minutes last night. If anything, we can always play against the wall -- lots of wall space available. There are three decent courts, but no lights at night. Great location, perfect for "nearby residents [who] live in small apartments with no yards" (dimaggioplayground.org).

We also had his behavioral therapist with us and she spoke highly of this playground. They have a tiny area for smaller kids under 5 which includes a sandbox with toys folks in the area "donated" or left behind. My little boy was in love with the sandbox area. There's another huge play structure for bigger kids and lots of benches and shaded areas for parents and nannies to hang out and unwind while the kids play in the area. Bigger kids can also play in the basketball court. What's neat about this playground is that there are tons of toys such as bikes, balance bikes, toy structures that parents either left behind or donated. My little boy loved playing with some of those toys. There's also a multi purpose room that you can probably rent out for birthday parties etc. As well as a decent bathroom for folks to use while they're in the playground. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. It's a wonderful playground. The only negative is that it can get pretty crowded and sometimes parking is difficult but overall definitely a great place to visit.

This place brings me happiness and sadness when I come here. I used to go to school as a kid across…read morethe street and while at the crosswalk heading towards the playground, one of my classmates got hit by a car. He didn't make it. I still remember him wearing his green overalls. It was quite tragic and I don't want that happening to anyone else. Please be careful when you cross the street to this playground. If you arrive at the top of the hill, cars coming up can't see you and often times people drive like they're driving a manual car and they end up in the crosswalk before they actually stop. Remember where there term California roll comes from. Drivers often don't stop at all despite the top of the hill intersection at Scott and Jackson being a 4-way stop. This is one of the few playgrounds where the trek to the playground itself is part of the experience. The proximity of a playground to the street is always an important aspect of the design. It impacts safety in a big way. It's often a challenge to balance the distance to be close enough to be seen as a public place but not so close that passersby and people who don't really belong there get exposure to your kids. Safety rating of this park is a 5 out of 5. This is the first and currently only 5 out of 5 rating I've given to the other 11 playground reviews I've written so far. The clearly identified entrances/exits to the playground further the safety measures. Aside from the ingress/egress gates, the structures are surrounded by a gate. The hill part of the perimeter is also a grassy field where lots of parents oversee their kids. That in itself is a good thing. When parents are actually watching their kids, paying attention to where they are and who they're interacting with is good company to be in. No true for every park, I can assure you that. The vantage point from the grassy hill also allows all parents to see kids that aren't theirs. This is great for safety. The structures are far apart enough where parents have vantage points between the structures to be able to see most of the playground. Density plays a bit role in safety of playgrounds as well. Some are so close together that it pretty much creates a wall where parents can only see their kids from one side. Again, the grassy area being on a hill provides a great view of your kids particularly with the higher elevation looking down into the playground. Kids ride their bikes along the perimeter. I assume kids will continue to do that even after the playground itself opens up from Covid closure. So watch out when walking along the path or entering/exiting the play structure area. I've seen on more than one occasion where kids smack themselves into the gate and fall of their bikes. Luckily they didn't hit a 2 year old. I'm doing playground reviews for two reasons. I have kids of my own and am on the search for playgrounds to take them to once the 95% of them that are currently closed (this one included) open back up. The second reason is that I'm on a trek to find the best FPV quadcopter flying site and so far this is my top choice. These particular structure designs are great for navigating through. The length of the playground is also perfect. Width isn't too tight either so plenty of space. Ideal seating areas all around for best video signal and view of the quad if flying line of site. Before anyone gets caught up in me flying quads in a playground, note that my quad is well under the 250g that's internationally recognized as toy grade. I'm also only planning to fly for the duration that parks are closed during the Covid shutdown. Once these playgrounds open up again, I'm gone. In the unlikely event that my quad hits you, it won't hurt more than a Halloween sized pack of Skittles slapping you. I've got propeller guards too so it literally won't feel like anything more than possibly an annoyance. These tinywhoops are quiet as ever so I haven't had any issue with anyone so far. Most are just curious and excited to watch. For those that aren't aware, the video quality on what's typically an analog feed to the goggles, is no better than looking at a bad 80's VHS tape. So don't you worry about privacy. The video quality is pretty poor by design. Reducing latency is much more important than improving video quality when flying and for that reason, anyone seen in the video can't be recognized as it's all just a blur. In other words, I'd have a hard time deciding whether to swipe right or swipe left on you if my drone footage was a replacement for Coffee Meets Bagel.
