There are often street vendors selling at the entrance to the campus. The phone lines have been down for months, as of September 2026, which means you cannot even make a call to the sheriff for help. Additionally, gates and doors are often locked up when they ought to be open. Sometimes being forced to leave through one entrance is extremely inconvenient and makes it reminiscent of a prison. Further, and this is not necessarily their fault, but the sidewalks around the school are often littered with filth, urine, and human feces. Often there is a homeless person splayed out on the steps nearest the "entrance/exit" with trash strewn around him. Now, the courses themselves are often good and well-staffed, but the facilities often lack proper modern, simple educational tools, such as a projector and speaker. There are high school children all over the campus, so it often doesn't feel "higher ed". You cannot enter the bookstore with your backpack on. I will say that they have an excellent culinary arts program that provides reasonably priced meals throughout the semesters. They have strong student services and helpful staff. The library techs, custodians and facilities workers are also very nice people.

I love the high energy and love I feel whenever I'm on the campus of Los Angeles Trade Technical College. From the President to Instructors and frontline staff LATC, it has the feel of a family on purpose to facilitate the development of professional level technical skills. I've gone from student to proud parent of a student in the Design and Media school. We attended the Golden Thimble fashion showcase at least three times and each time the designers outdid the previous show. This last time we went our son won the gender neutral award. We love Ms Jackson and all the staff. Many of the schools on campus come together to put on a fabulous fashion show production. I always look forward to the cookies of the culinary arts department. Enjoy the show through my eyes. Until the next one.

I believe that the instructors, staff, and administrators are very good, and that they care about the students. This is the type of school that is worth tax payer dollars, if we are going to pay for anything, it should be helping those who are underserved, and underrepresented, continue and complete their education, and get stable careers. This is the type of school that changes lives for the better, and builds better communities, helps families be more stable, and is ultimately a help to the world. I just wish they had more art and design based tech classes, graphic design, auto-cad, architecture courses etc, I would definitely take those courses, but that's a very small gripe. Anyway, thanks to the team for all that you do! Keep up the good work.

I was a Production Assistant in the web department for a daytime talk show looking to upskill in social media marketing. I consider myself a resourceful, self-learner (I had read all the blogs and watched all the YouTube videos on the subject) so it was really important that the class was hands-on and experiential. The class was challenging for me, especially the analytics and conversion optimization lessons, but I stayed late for instructor office hours and made an effort to establish relationships with my classmates. Working overtime as a PA, driving to class, and completing assignments was not easy, but I proudly graduated with an end-to-end marketing campaign for my portfolio. Empowered by my learnings and new connections I started applying for jobs at influencer marketing companies. When the question of experience came up in the interview I mentioned that I had just finished the digital marketing program at General Assembly. Turned out the CEO of this start-up had given a talk at a GA event. We immediately bonded over our admiration of the GA culture and brand. I was sent an offer letter the next week! It was still a junior role (but actually more money than I was making at the time). More importantly, it was an entry into an industry I was really excited about. GA is a great place to grow your professional network and level up your skills, but you definitely get what you put in. The location in DTLA is spacious and teeming with diverse creative people, and they do cool free events almost every night of the week!

I heard about General Assembly classes because they list them on Facebook and it popped up in my…read morefeed as a targeted ad. I'm glad for this as that is how I signed up for a free 2-hour introductory class to coding. The class covered HTML and CSS and was designed to just a quick intro to see if you would be interested in taking a full class. Still I was surprised how much I learned in just a free intro course. Our instructor Allie covered a ton of theory so we understood the big picture and how the different developer languages (HTML, CSS and Javascript) played different roles. Much of the class was her guiding us through actually creating a mock webpage by immediately applying the coding principles and info she taught. I highly recommend bringing your computer for the hands-on portion. Also, Allie listed additional resources for us to explore on our own time, and we were promised the slide deck after. Being totally new to coding, I was able to take what I learned from the intro class and actually fix an issue THE NEXT DAY on the website that I manage for work! I rely on website templates but don't understand the HTML and CSS behind it so I was able to override the template that doesn't even allow me to change font attributes on hyperlinked text. Once you sign up for a class they send you promo emails with discounts, so I will probably look into taking a more full class. TIP: this is located right in the heart of Little Tokyo so there is plenty of sushi, ramen and snack options available before or after going to class here.

But before we took the exam, me and those two other students were talking about how we weren't confident about taking the exam because of the instructor and her horrible confusing teaching. The instructor, which I'm guessing is the business owner, was 10 minutes late to the class and then she started the class an hour late and only checking in like six students. There were barely any students there. So an hour of teaching time was wasted because she was lollygagging. As the instructor sat down to start teaching the class, she kept stopping to text message somebody and I don't know if it was her boyfriend, but she had a huge smile on her face, Every time she was texting somebody. She did not answer questions that I had for her. She kept saying that those questions weren't necessary to answer because they weren't on the test. I paid almost $400 to take that class. I would much appreciate if you answer the questions that I have, regardless, if it's on the test or not. And then, when I finally passed the exam after having to take it a second time and after having to purchase an online Notary course by EZ Notary. I spoke to the owner on the phone and asked how can I get the rest of my supplies which is a journal, my bond and my seal. She said I would have to pay for the shipping since I don't live around there and I'm not willing to go get it in person to pick up the supplies. Her team or her emailed me the invoice for the shipment, it was $31, just to ship my bond and then I would have to pay for a second shipment for the rest of my supplies. Talk about ripping students off. Another thing is you have to pay for parking. when I called before I placed the order I asked her assistant or her front desk person do I have to pay for parking, he said no that we can get it validated for you. But nobody wanted to validate the ticket unless you bought something in that building. The parking was $20. Do not pay to take the in person class and do not pay for any other Notary course from her. She is a horrible instructor. I would not waste your time or your money. There is a much better chance passing the exam through someone else online course. Good luck!

Andrew Hall, the owner, and operator of The School of Light offered to teach me one-on-one during a weekend workshop to make sure I was fully prepared and confident for the advanced darkroom class. In a weekend, my world changed. I learned the art and mechanics of film photography, sharpened my perspectives for light and shadow, processed my own film, and developed my own prints. Nothing is quite as exciting as watching your photograph come to life, or as empowering as knowing you have full creative control in the darkroom. Low and behold, I was fully equipped for the advanced class - which was nothing short of magnificent. Andrew is incredibly friendly, passionate, patient, engaging, inspiring, a true artist with a wealth of expertise, and an exceptional instructor for your journey into the darkroom. I've since taken numerous classes at SoL and continue to expand my creativity into exotic and uncharted realms. The people who attend Andrew's workshops are just as friendly and likeminded as you. Everyone gets along and encourages each other; it's indeed a splendid place.
