The selection is as superb as I'd remembered, and I had a wonderful conversation with the young woman working there.

I am floored by the amount of books, in every single category imaginable. Yes, they have a large children's section. There is a giant plush figure standing near a black pole in front of the children's books. I checked out each floor. I'm a sucker for novelty items, which they have plenty of. They sell multiple models of Polaroid cameras and film. Tons of calendars in different formats. Their vinyl room is on the ground floor, in the back. The store is sleek, clean, and organized. If you're in Berlin, I recommend visiting this store.

Beyond an insane collection of books, they also have tons of very unique novelty items that make great gifts or, something for yourself-- something that you never knew you needed. This shop is a multilevel business. They have multiple floors with books and other items on every floor. Plus, it is just stuffed full with an insane amount of books covering all varieties to quench your reading experience. As mentioned, they are much more than just an incredible bookstore. They also have a great selection of vinyl. So, for all of you vinyl enthusiasts, this is a great place to go and find that unique piece of music that you've wanted either very recently or all the way back to when you were young. It's really hard to explain just how much this store offers. I mean, if you're looking for a specific book, it's more than likely they will have. And, if they don't, they can most likely get it for you. Dussmann's great places to sit around and take a look at that book you may be interested in purchasing. I had to refrain myself from buying a few because I did not have the extra space for them unfortunately in my luggage. Customer service is very friendly and professional. It's definitely worth a visit, if you would like to purchase something good to read in English or step up your book collection.

But they have a pretty good selection! I went specifically for English books which I think is all they have. There was a German section though if that's what you're looking for. I didn't order any food or coffee so I can't speak on it but we went later in the evening and they still had a few cakes and stuff to choose from. They don't allow laptops on Saturday's (to save space and stop people from staying too long I assume) which is fine in my opinion. I'd definitely go back with a book or a notebook and sip on a coffee for a few hours.

Berlin has many bookstores, but only one, Shakespeare and Sons, is located on a busy wide Strasse in the former East Berlin. You can see tables on the sidewalk with many uber-cool young people talking away, eating fresh New York bagels and coffee. The interior is dark, brooding, and narrow but comforting. We ordered breakfast bagels with coffee and sat outside with many narratives walking back and forth. The bagels are very well crafted and the shmeers and fresh tomatoes and onions are tasty. The coffees were well made. It was fun to travel there. If you are still hungry, there is a bespoke donut place next door. Highly recommend this place.

I think there is no other place in Berlin that has such a quality selection. Also, there are plants magazines in English. Staff is really friendly, people are relaxed. I'm kind of glad because I bought so many magazines that people didn't have in Los Angeles! HAAAAA Domenico is the absolute best. He's super helpful, enthusiastic about the shop, and seems genuine. So glad he wasn't some snobby person I've witnessed at other places. The interior is minimalist, but inviting. The huge windows in front give such good light when I'm checking out magazines. I can't wait to get back to Berlin and come here again. I still have the awesome bag from the shop. :)

There is a beautiful gallery space at the back, and a superb variety of books of all types as well as souvenirs. The neighborhood (Schoeneberg) is very pleasant and easy to get to, with lots of low-key places to eat nearby. This is worth a special trip for anyone concerned about LGBT life and lit, no matter what language(s) you speak.
