I needed some signage and promo materials for a project a few months ago and came across this place. From my first contact over the phone with the joker that runs this place, I got a disinterested vibe. When I tried to call back a few days later to schedule a consultation, the phone was disconnected!
I FINALLY got an appointment set up by going through the non-user-friendly website (which wasn't a good sign since JM Design designed their own site,) just to be rescheduled and pushed back three separate times.
At the actual sit-down, Jason was twenty minutes late, he spent the meeting alternately acting spacy (his "eccentric artist" schtick, I guess,) showing off other projects (which did not move me) and trying to weasel my budget details from me. He didn't listen to the project specs or give my preliminary notations and sketches any attention, but got VERY animated and intense about getting an (outlandishly large) deposit before I'd even really chosen the company I wanted to go with.
I learned ALL about his local "persona" he's concocted because he WOULDN'T SHUT UP ABOUT HIMSELF, and didn't seem too concerned with, well, anything, really.
On top of THAT, his production schedule was ridiculous and expensive. There was no one else in the office, even a receptionist, which, along with the disconnected phone made me wonder why this cat was so worked up about getting a check from me. I checked with a couple other contacts who've worked with him and they said he drags out the process so there's no wiggle room in the event that something need editing because he procrastinates to the bone and that he's bored unless he's discussing wringing money from you or getting ready to get a payment. He apparently also tacks on additional charges that aren't part of the original agreement (two of my three colleagues who used him previously reported this occurrence, so I think he makes a side hustle of "unforseen expenses".
Very very shady indeed.
Impossible to contact, self-absorbed, outlandish quotes for the scale of the work, no respect for a potential client's time or intelligence, uninspired design, flaky, money-hungry, hard to contact and just rude.
I went with Alisal Signs And Printing and got a perfect product in ten days for just under half of the quote from Mr. Living-in-Lala-Land. He claimed it would be a month. read more
