JJ is not only an incredibly talented photographer--she is a true artist, storyteller, and joy to work with. I first met JJ almost 10 years ago when she photographed a dear friend's wedding. Her work instantly captured not just my attention, but my heart. Every photo she took felt alive--as though I could feel what the people in the images were feeling. That emotional depth stayed with me, and I knew even then: when it's my turn to get married, I want JJ to be the one to capture it. Fast forward nearly a decade--and it was finally my turn. We chose JJ to be our wedding photographer, and I can confidently say that it's one of the best decisions we made. I've been following her work for years and I think her portfolio speaks for itself in terms of quality and artistic talent of the work that she does. Now that l've had the chance to work with her directly, I can see that there's so much more than that to give her credit for. Leading up to the wedding day, JJ was one of the vendors I never had to worry about because she was always so thorough in her prep work and consistently proactive about following up with next steps. On the day of, she brought so much infectious enthusiasm that we couldn't help laughing on the way back home remembering adventuring around with her finding all the best spots. I'm someone that feels pretty awkward around cameras, but her care put me at ease and I feel so thrilled at how the photos she took feel so natural and genuinely me. My husband can definitely attest to the fact that I was screaming with glee multiple times during our honeymoon while admiring the sneak peaks, and the final photos arrived insanely quickly. Our friends and family are all raving about how good they look, and we feel so lucky to have these photos to look back on and treasure. To me, finding a good photographer is one of the most important investments you can make for your wedding, and if you want to work with the best there is no one I would recommend more!
We loved working with JJ! Through both the engagement shoot and the wedding itself, she completely captured our vision! Choosing a wedding photographer can definitely seem daunting at first, so when JJ came recommended to us through our venue we set to work pouring through her shoots with other couples and were instantly drawn to the way she was able to capture joyful moments that felt candid and real. Plus, we really enjoyed her choices with lighting and color balance and thought they would compliment the green tones of our venue incredibly well. As if we weren't already sold, during our introductory call with her, JJ's energy was infectious and her passion for what she does apparent. For our engagement shoot, JJ took us to a number of great locations along 17 mile drive and was able to capture an incredible mix of stunning landscapes and intimate moments between the two of us. We had a difficult time picking just one shot to use for our invites! In addition to all the digital copies, JJ was also kind enough to provide us with a couple of large prints of the shoot for us to keep! On the day of our wedding, JJ and her team did an amazing job of capturing everything from the joy of our guests to romantic portraits of us to the details of the setting. She was so organized throughout the whole event and handled our long list of photo grouping requests with ease. We have been so in awe looking back on the photos and reliving the magic of the day. If you are looking for dreamy photos and a photographer that instantly feels like a friend, you cannot go wrong by choosing to work with JJ!

While I was wedding planning, I found out about JJ through her Facebook page. After seeing the photos she took from other weddings, I quickly decided to have her as my wedding photographer! I did not regret this decision a single bit! My husband and I had our wedding ceremony in May 2023. JJ was well-organized and professional throughout our collaboration with her! Before our wedding ceremony, she spoke with us to ensure we were on the same page in terms of schedule, expectations, and details we would like her to look out for on our big day. The pictures turned out really beautifully and JJ did a phenomenal job in capturing the details at our wedding! The photos she took portray the emotions of me and my husband, as well as all family members and guests. Even in a darker environment, the lighting in the photos looks perfectly natural. I also appreciate JJ referring me and my husband to other wonderful vendors for makeup and video! If you are looking for a wedding photographer, I highly recommend JJ as your wedding photographer! JJ shot our wedding at Nestldown in September 2022, and in short, she and her crew did a phenomenal job! We got to know JJ as she was one of the recommended photographers at Nestldown. After browsing through multiple portfolios, we decided to choose her as we loved how she often uses warm light in her photos, and how each photo looks natural, yet intimate and magical at the same time! The booking process was quick and smooth, definitely recommending to book her as early as you can as her schedule fills up quickly! She was also very responsive through email whenever we had questions regarding the wedding photoshoot. September rolled around, and despite many days of sun the week prior and how rare it is to have rain this time of the year, it was an unexpected downpour on Sunday lol. We were worried about how the wedding shoot would be, however, JJ always made us feel comfortable and confident whenever we had to be outside in the rain. She reassured us that the misty colors of the forest during and after the rain were rare and hard to replicate at any other time and place (and yes, it was so true!). Not only was JJ able to direct and capture beautiful moments throughout our wedding, but she also used the rain as leverage to deliver some unforgettably captivating photos! Furthermore, she and her crew were very quick at capturing the right photos and always made sure that we were on time for our wedding day schedule (super important at the wedding!). All in all, JJ is an amazingly talented photographer, and working with her was an unforgettable experience for us. We hope to work with her again sometime in the future!

Originally we scheduled the wedding photo shoot with JJ, and our wedding date had to be postponed due to the covid situation; We ended up changing to the family post-wedding shooting! Plus, our young daughter didn't get the vaccine and might be risky to explore in the public. JJ was very empathetic of the situation; as her schedule was full-booked, she's still very patient in coordinating with me to deal with the best time for both of us. And the wait was all worth it! My husband is not a big fan of photoshoots, and I am not too photogenic, but the session with JJ was so relaxed that we enjoyed every moment with her creative directions! She is not only a photographer, but she is also a true artist that got this natural sense of beauty and utilizes her talent very well :) You think making poses are hard, and holding a smile is hard! but it's even harder when we have our two years old with us lol As you can imagine, at her age, is a lot of uncertainty, so I didn't expect much to take photos of her, but JJ just made every shot easy and quick for the baby, with all the fun guidance from her, the outcome was phenomenal. I am a designer with a very picky sense of beauty; JJ expressed all the concerns and collaborate with my ideas from the dress, hair, makeup, theme, and everything! She cares about how to represent my ideas, and I trust her profession and directions. JJ expressed her energy and excitement with you; her passion was contagious and naturally led us to be ourselves. The short: JJ is phenomenal and has shot the best memories my wife and I could've ever hoped for. On top of that, she's just an absolute riot and naturally makes you laugh out loud all throughout the shoot. I would highly recommend her to anyone without question. -- We hired JJ for our engagement photos and for our wedding. Both times, we came away with pictures that we'll cherish for the rest of our lives. They seriously make us smile and feel genuinely happy. Initially we were drawn to JJ because her portfolio had many natural shots which looked like she captured the moment and we thought that would best suit our personalities. My wife and I are not particularly enthusiastic about photos of ourselves, as we regularly capture awkwardly/stiff, so the choice of photography was incredibly important to us. Luckily JJ's work speaks for itself but we also had several meetings with her along the way where she made sure to prioritize our wishes. As a result, we were completely confident and comfortable with her which was hugely impactful. What we really loved about working with JJ is that she truly loves what she does, and that energy is infectious. We would be randomly walking towards an area to shoot and suddenly she would perk up and get excited about something she serendipitously envisions in her mind's eye. We end up getting into that exact position and she just starts taking photos while yelling out, "Nice!!! Beautiful! I love it!!". Nothing makes you feel more confident than your photographer just gushing about you all day long. Another thing she does very well is to incorporate movement into the shots. They feel dynamic and they've shown us a totally different side of ourselves. Her guidance was specific, well-communicated and never felt totally forced for the sake of it. We really appreciated this as the last time we hired a photographer for another event, our pictures just were so forced and we felt that was disappointingly reflected in the end results... enough so to make us feel as if it wasn't possible for us to take good pictures. What JJ, and her amazing team, did was nothing short of spectacular and I can only put our appreciation into so many words. We simply couldn't have asked for a better person to do the job and we look forward to finding an excuse to do another shoot in the future. Thank you so much for everything JJ!
Being photographed by JJ is an eclectic, fun, creative, and memorable experience. I have never met anyone who loves her/his job more then the way JJ does, and she genuinely cares about all her clients. What's so special about working with JJ is that her expressive energy is contagious, and you naturally become more expressive and being in touch with your own emotions. When JJ capture these emotions, that's what makes her work so amazing. A bit of advice, book JJ as early as you can if you want her for your special day! :)
I am so lucky and grateful that my now husband and I found JJ Chen. She took photos of our Engagement and Wedding Day. She was so flexible when we cancelled our venue. Due to COVID, we decided to have a small intimate wedding in my parents backyard with a much smaller amount of guests and JJ came to my parents backyard to scope out possible shots. JJ is able to work in any condition with weather and space and still manages to execute art and has an amazing talent and ability to showcase not only the couple but lighting as well; which is very difficult in an uncontrolled space vs indoor lighting. She made my husband and I feel comfortable and was so collaborative with us when we had ideas, and would always be so kind and quick to respond. She helped me pick out my dress for our Engagement shoot and even helped me with my veil choice, and not only tells you what she likes but also detailed reasons on why, that you may not have even thought of yourself. I highly recommend JJ Chen as you will not regret it.
I'm feel so lucky to have JJ as my engagement and wedding photographer. I first saw JJ's work thru a friend's social media and I instantly knew I wanted her as my photographer. I literately reach out thru email more than a year ahead of my wedding and secured the date. JJ and I mostly contacted each other thru emails and Instagram. I didn't ask any questions of her work, the way she shoot, I didn't even know what she sounds or looks like (other than her profile picture). That's how much trust I have in her. JJ is very professional and involved in bringing out the very best. For the engagement session, She was helpful in deciding the outfits for my fiancé and I. She gave us great directions how to pose and move. This is our first time working with a professional photographer and we get stiff from time to time, but JJ made both of us super comfortable and just knows what feels natural and right for us. The session just flew by and we received our pictures back the following week. My fiancé, family members, friends and I LOVE how the pictures turned out. We received a lot compliments of how gorgeous, great, pretty they are. And as JJ puts it "Every great photo is from team work" I can't wait for JJ and her team to be part of our wedding.
We worked with JJ over a span of two years for our engagement photoshoot and wedding photography. She is an incredibly talented and professional photographer that provides the whole package + more - we absolutely loved working with her and could not be happier with the end product! For our engagement photos, we were looking to shoot them on the beach, and JJ knew exactly how to make them perfect. She is very experienced and cares about all the details - giving us pointers on the type of outfits, makeup artist, location, etc - it's clear that she is not here to just do a job, but she really treats it as art and strives for client satisfaction. She has an eye for the perfect moments, and is not shy to direct us to capture the shots. This was a working style that really helped us - JJ was able to tell us where to be and what to do, but in a way that is not awkward or uncomfortable. We were nervous going in, not having any experience in front of a camera, but having her expertise and leadership really made it not only smooth but really fun! For the wedding, JJ 110% delivered. We threw the gauntlet at her in terms of challenges - rescheduling multiple times due to COVID, changing the timeline, moving the reception outdoors, and JJ was prepared for everything. We really appreciated her professionalism and flexibility - she even went beyond expectations to purchase new lighting equipment and brought a larger team to handle the darker than expected conditions. JJ was able to capture all the moments we'd expect and more - every photo was so good and we will cherish them forever. On top of that, she was basically half our wedding planner. She is always very prompt with communication, and happy to help with everything - all her suggestions throughout our work together for other vendors, wedding details, and any other questions were thoughtful and on point. If you are considering a photographer, there is no question, pick JJ Chen. Not only did she make the process easy for us, she planned meticulously for every single photo she took, long before our wedding and improvised for some wonderful shots during our downtime. Every single shot turned out beautiful! JJ and her associate were also excellent guests, they made all of our guests feel comfortable and we really loved having them in our wedding. We absolutely loved working with JJ! From the start, she was incredibly transparent about her process, pricing, and what to expect--which made us feel confident booking her early on. Throughout the planning process, she was super communicative, always responding to our questions within 24 hours and keeping us updated every step of the way. On the big day, she was the definition of professional--calm, organized, and so easy to work with. Neither of us are particularly comfortable in front of the camera, but she made us feel at ease and somehow made us both look amazing in every shot. When we got the photos back... wow. She delivered absolute art. Every picture felt timeless, beautifully composed, and captured our personalities and joy perfectly. We've gotten so many compliments on the photos already. Being photographed by JJ is an eclectic, fun, creative, and memorable experience. I have never met anyone who loves her/his job more then the way JJ does, and she genuinely cares about all her clients. What's so special about working with JJ is that her expressive energy is contagious, and you naturally become more expressive and being in touch with your own emotions. When JJ capture these emotions, that's what makes her work so amazing. A bit of advice, book JJ as early as you can if you want her for your special day! :) read more

I am so lucky and grateful that my now husband and I found JJ Chen. She took photos of our Engagement and Wedding Day. She was so flexible when we cancelled our venue. Due to COVID, we decided to have a small intimate wedding in my parents backyard with a much smaller amount of guests and JJ came to my parents backyard to scope out possible shots. JJ is able to work in any condition with weather and space and still manages to execute art and has an amazing talent and ability to showcase not only the couple but lighting as well; which is very difficult in an uncontrolled space vs indoor lighting. She made my husband and I feel comfortable and was so collaborative with us when we had ideas, and would always be so kind and quick to respond. She helped me pick out my dress for our Engagement shoot and even helped me with my veil choice, and not only tells you what she likes but also detailed reasons on why, that you may not have even thought of yourself. I'm feel so lucky to have JJ as my engagement and wedding photographer. I first saw JJ's work thru a friend's social media and I instantly knew I wanted her as my photographer. I literately reach out thru email more than a year ahead of my wedding and secured the date. JJ and I mostly contacted each other thru emails and Instagram. I didn't ask any questions of her work, the way she shoot, I didn't even know what she sounds or looks like (other than her profile picture). That's how much trust I have in her. JJ is very professional and involved in bringing out the very best. For the engagement session, She was helpful in deciding the outfits for my fiancé and I. She gave us great directions how to pose and move. This is our first time working with a professional photographer and we get stiff from time to time, but JJ made both of us super comfortable and just knows what feels natural and right for us. The session just flew by and we received our pictures back the following week. My fiancé, family members, friends and I LOVE how the pictures turned out. We received a lot compliments of how gorgeous, great, pretty they are. And as JJ puts it "Every great photo is from team work" I can't wait for JJ and her team to be part of our wedding. read more

We worked with JJ over a span of two years for our engagement photoshoot and wedding photography. She is an incredibly talented and professional photographer that provides the whole package + more - we absolutely loved working with her and could not be happier with the end product! For our engagement photos, we were looking to shoot them on the beach, and JJ knew exactly how to make them perfect. She is very experienced and cares about all the details - giving us pointers on the type of outfits, makeup artist, location, etc - it's clear that she is not here to just do a job, but she really treats it as art and strives for client satisfaction. She has an eye for the perfect moments, and is not shy to direct us to capture the shots. This was a working style that really helped us - JJ was able to tell us where to be and what to do, but in a way that is not awkward or uncomfortable. We were nervous going in, not having any experience in front of a camera, but having her expertise and leadership really made it not only smooth but really fun! For the wedding, JJ 110% delivered. We threw the gauntlet at her in terms of challenges - rescheduling multiple times due to COVID, changing the timeline, moving the reception outdoors, and JJ was prepared for everything. We really appreciated her professionalism and flexibility - she even went beyond expectations to purchase new lighting equipment and brought a larger team to handle the darker than expected conditions. JJ was able to capture all the moments we'd expect and more - every photo was so good and we will cherish them forever. On top of that, she was basically half our wedding planner. She is always very prompt with communication, and happy to help with everything - all her suggestions throughout our work together for other vendors, wedding details, and any other questions were thoughtful and on point. I rarely gave positive reviews on yelp but I have to give a five stars for JJ and her photography skills. I really like her proflio so I made the decision to have her as my wedding photographer the day I called her. She is very great and professional, definitely knows what she is doing. My husband and I were not particularly good at taking photos and we get awkard easily, but she is very experienced working with people like us. She helps us pose and I really appreciate it. She is also an expert in lighting and gives us the best sunset photos I have ever seen. For reception photos, she did a really good job telling stories using photography. Beyond that, she is dedicated to offer the best services and went all the way to provide three different pov due to our venue scenery. I would definitely want to work with her again for photos of the other memorable moments of life in the future. read more

JJ shot our wedding and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about her and her crew. With JJ, you get the full package: an incredible artist, consummate professional who works well with other wedding vendors, and just a fantastic person who focuses on building relationships and maintaining clear communication before, during, and after the big day. We were so lucky to have her shoot our wedding. On the technical side: JJ brought incredible skill and artistry, being able to quickly and confidently find that most magical light. While for some this may be the most important part, I feel like her portfolio speaks for itself here. She strikes a great balance between taking enough creative input from us to make each shoot very intimate and personal and bringing in all her experience to truly make some art. After going over some broad ideas of what we liked, we felt very comfortable leaving things in her hands so we could focus on enjoying the high of getting married. Part of that comfort also came from the confidence that JJ holds herself to a ridiculously high standard. Throughout all of our sessions, it was clear that she didn't want to settle for anything less than perfection. We got the sense that this wasn't just a job to her, but a artistic endeavor and we were all collaborators in trying to make something special. She brought that perfectionism to all parts of her operation, which greatly helped the wedding planning. Leading up to the event, she was very responsive and clear in her communication, which helped us stay organized. Of all the things we needed to worry about logistically, photography was never one of them. Finally, I would be remiss to not say that she was just a very easy person to work with. On the big day, our photo sessions felt fun and effortless as we hopped from place to place to catch the best light. Despite being on a tight schedule, she always kept things lighthearted as she efficiently directed us into looking our best. Being in her care felt like a luxury experience. JJ Chen definitely has an artist's eye, which is apparent if you look at her photography. She has a flair for color, dynamism, drama, composition, and lightning. Again, all this you can see via her website. That said, JJ also shines as a partner to the bride and groom. She is an absolute delight to work with, and will push herself (and you!) hard to get the right shot. She knows her craft; sessions for engagements are timed such that the right poses happen at the right time of day for the right light in the right places. For the wedding itself, JJ clearly does her homework and scopes out the location diligently. We always felt that she knew the location intimately, as she does not like to waste a moment of light. JJ takes the time to get to know you, too. She understands the dynamic between the couple, and works that into the poses. Everything feels natural and attuned to the couple. Conversely, if you ask for a pose that doesn't gel with you as a couple, she'll (kindly) let you know, and work with you to find something that does capture the spirit of what you want. Honest and collaborative, JJ will ultimately capture the memories you'll show friends and family for years to come. She was worth every penny, and we gladly recommend her. read more

JJ is SO dedicated as a photographer! We hired her for both the engagement shoot and as our wedding photographer. She 1) stayed extra late during our engagement shoot to get the right shots because the weather was just right and 2) brought an extra shooter to our hectic wedding so that she could get better coverage of the event at no cost to us. We had a wedding at Kohl Mansion, which was a venue with many rooms that each had different activities, so we really appreciated that she did that for us. On top of it all, I was really inspired by her artistry and it helped me to feel comfortable being myself to the fullest in the photos. When she sees a great shot, she will just get so excited, and once she takes a look at the camera screen after the shots, she'll give a small smile and say, "I got it!" I am so glad I found JJ on Yelp to capture our wedding ceremony and reception. I really loved her style and the way she captures candid moments based on her previous work. When we met on call for the first time, she seemed so sweet and curious. Thats when we decided to go with her. We had to reschedule our wedding once due to the complications surrounding the pandemic. JJ was so empathetic and was ready to reschedule immediately. I think this was one of the first Sikh ceremony that she captured but it did not show in her work. It looked like she did her homework and the end results were so good. She captured the whole ceremony so well. She even asked us if there were any moments in the ceremony that needed to be captured. We did not take any efforts in the decor both at the ceremony and the reception location, but she still made the whole wedding look so picture perfect. All of the pictures look so ethereal and candid. Me and my fiancé have two left feet when it comes to posing. JJ was so good at giving directions. I did not expect that me and my fiancé would end up having so many good pictures that we were not able to decide which ones to feature on our social media. Overall, she is the most talented yet the most down to earth person I have ever met. I will keep reliving my most memorable day by looking at her pictures. I cannot thank her enough for the pictures. We were truly blown away by the phenomenal job that JJ did for our wedding photos. We had seen JJ's gallery before we signed with her and had high expectations going in, but JJ and team surpassed even our very high expectations. We really couldn't recommend her enough. First off, JJ has a great talent for capturing natural, raw emotion in the moment. In our wedding and engagement photos, she managed to capture all the emotional, joyful, initimate moments. Those pictures really mean a lot to us - the candid shots that caught a loved one's reaction to a speech or a beautiful moment with our family are things that we will treasure forever. We also really appreciated how JJ cared deeply about what we wanted. She is a great listener and was just took so much effort to make sure that she understood what was important to us and what we hoped to capture with her photos. JJ also went above and beyond to ensure that our wedding photos would be amazing. For example, we wanted to have our tea ceremony at an outdoor pavilion instead of an indoor room (which would have been better for photographs as we can control the light). When we told JJ we preferred the outdoor pavilion to the indoor room, she found ways to make the lighting work and without us asking, she scouted out the venue ahead of time to get a sense of what the light in the pavilion would be like. JJ's artistic vision and passion for her work is really really apparent and made us love the whole process of taking pictures. As a couple, we're not very good at having our pictures taken- we look a little unnatural sometimes. But JJ clearly had ideas for what would make us look natural and bring out how we interacted with each other normally. Her enthusiasm and encouragement is so genuine and infectious that we found ourselves really enjoying the photoshoots. She's always coming up with new ideas to take advantage of the setting to get the best shots. We weren't the only ones who loved working with JJ, JJ was also great with our family and wedding party - pretty much everyone from our 4 year old nephew to our parents had great things to say about JJ. All in all, JJ was a dream to work with, not only is she a wonderful photographer, but she was also incredibly prompt, organized and responsive in everything she did. You can easily find a photography studio that does mediocre (good but not surprisingly good) work at your wedding, but if you want an art piece, you should choose JJ. JJ is a real artist, who does not just record the scene but compose the photographs with light. We had reviewed a lot of studio work before we finally found JJ. We had good chemistry when we first chatted and we knew we were gonna make something very special. On the wedding, we trusted JJ's team, and JJ also trusted us. Together we created lots of excellent moments with happiness at right time with right light. The photos are not just forming another wedding photo album; it is expressive photography; it is art. It captures how we feel about the wedding that means a lot to us; It is also the way how JJ express her feeling about the wedding that means something to her too. We love JJ's work, i.e. the color scheme and every detail she want to express in the photos. We feel grateful to have had JJ to be the photography artist in our wedding. JJ is not that one regular photographer you just hire to capture some happy moments on your wedding day and then forget. She considers her photo shooting as creating art works and fully engaged to make sure your album comes as perfect as it gets. She works with you to be creative with whatever your wedding setup is. She will come on your rehearsal day and help tune the lighting and chair set up. She wants to make sure no matter what style your ceremony venue is, it will look phenomenal in your wedding photo album. We had our pre-wedding album taken in the woods and City Hall. JJ is so experienced in the lighting and timing of these two places that your albums here are almost guaranteed to be spectacular. She is constantly full of passion and creativity, JJ will find that one unique new setup for you even in the places she had worked on albums many times. She is very skillful in the lighting, shading and color combinations that no matter it is indoor, complex, colorful lighting or bright sunshine, she can always create impressive art works. She is also very considerate, she will give you instructions on how to do the preparation and cope with ideas you have during the photo shooting. All in all, working with her during our wedding is such a fortunate and memorable experience that I consider being privileged. read more

As you will see with these treasured photos of ours... working with JJ Chen was one of the best experiences we could have had. She is so kind, so eager and determined to get "the shot" and we were right there with her. She had so many great ideas and was so knowledgeable and professional - we were able to get so much out of the time we had together because of that. She is also extremely open to your ideas and collaborating. She really wants the best from you. We're crazy, and had our photoshoot in January in San Francisco.. and I was shivering so much and definitely woke up with a cold the next morning lol!! We have been fans of JJ's work for years and were so excited to have her as our photographer for our engagement photos. JJ was the ultimate professional throughout this process, helping us pick out locations, outfits, and a makeup artist. The actual photoshoot was such a fun experience for us, and the session flew by! JJ was so full of energy and delightful to work with. She struck the perfect balance between giving us the space to be ourselves for candid shots and giving us great suggestions for poses that felt natural and brought out the best in both of us. Wow, where do we begin? Words failed me in capturing how much we love and admire JJ, her team, and her work. We were so blessed to have JJ and Yang as our photographers for both our engagement and wedding photos last year. Talented, professional, and armed with double cameras, they were our dream Ninja Team and we really couldn't have asked for a more amazing photography team. Compared to other photographers who tend to rely upon overly dramatized post-editing effects, JJ works to preserve her subjects in a natural and timeless manner that is warm, vibrant, and full of emotion. And because of this, she consistently goes beyond capturing sweet smiles or pretty backgrounds to really preserving a sense of place and time through her work. A master of light and composition, she finds a way to make her subjects look like they are glowing from inside out no matter how challenging the shooting environment or lighting situation. Thanks to JJ's impeccable artistic sense and the deep care and authenticity of her work, flipping through our wedding and engagement photos is like stepping into a time machine that transports us back to the very moment she pushed the shutter. It's pure magic. Stylistic reasons aside, JJ and her team are also a dream to work with because they are some of the most sincere, empathetic, and humble people we have ever met. JJ CHEN IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I found her through Facebook a few years ago and liked her page, in hopes that one day when I tie the knot I could reach out to her for my engagement and wedding photos. I got engaged in August 2017 and reached out to JJ right away via FB Messenger. Her response was quick and I was so excited that she replied. We setup a meeting to meet in person and go over what my fiancé and I are looking for. I was amazed at JJ's professionalism as well as her interest in us as a couple. JJ wanted to get to know us so that she could capture our personalities in the photos not just take photos. She truly cares about her work and is passionate about doing her best. JJ was also helpful in picking a location for our engagement shoot and also helpful in finding me a makeup artist! All around JJ is outstanding. I can't wait for our big day, I will definitely write her another review in August 2018. read more

I want to share some honest opinion about JJCHEN based on my customer experience. I know she have tried to get clients to write good yelp reviews with additional retouched images for free (which is totally fine as a marketing effort, but just an fyi). But I still feel yelp is a place for transparent and honest information. We booked JJChen for our engagement session and wedding day photography coverage. The engagement photos came out decent. But we are extremely unhappy and unsatisfied with the wedding day experience. And I am actually not the only one who was unhappy with her service. If you can read Chinese, do take a look at the post below in a popular forum for Chinese overseas in the US, where quite a few people complained about her work / service attitude: http://forums.huaren.us/showtopic.aspx?topicid=1676193&&page=1 I will list a few facts of my experience here: 1. Photo quality: 1) BLURRY IMAGES!!!! FAIL TO KEEP THE PHOTOS FOCUSED AND CLEAR!!! This is consistently one of the biggest problems of JJ's work. Take a careful look at a couple sets of her photos, especially those wedding photos that meant to capture movements, you will see what I mean. You can randomly pick a few as they are very common in her work. This is obviously a serious issue for shooting a wedding... 2) Color: As you can see from the photos I uploaded here, the color is completely off. The composition of the image is very odd. Those outdoor photos, the lighting is very flat and we can't even see people's noses. Our wedding was at Palm Event Center, which is a very beautiful venue for photos. We were shocked when receiving these images. People's lips were purple in the photo and the faces look like wax. I was really upset and dwell on it for a long time. I can tolerate certain mistakes, but such off pictures is something I can't accept. 2. Being a "Wedding-day Nazi"...very picky and manipulating This is what I feel the most disappointing. JJ is very manipulating on the wedding day and almost require a perfect setting to return decent photos. For example, she asked me to tell the officiant before-head to remind guests not to stand up taking photos during the ceremony. And I did. The officiant was quite surprised as he said this was the first time he heard such concern from a photographer. When I pointed out some photos look unacceptably off, JJ tried to find excuses to explain why some photos came out bad: 1) For those outdoor photos, she said they were taken at a time (~3:30 pm I believe) when the light is strong, so there is no way to make the photos look not as flat. 2) On those ceremony photos, she said the venue lighting is not ideal and is difficult to shoot. 3) On the fact that we are missing some close-up get-ready photos, she blamed the hotel room is not large enough. I am really unhappy to hear these excuses. The reason why we hire a professional is because we trust they know how to handle these challenges. If a photographer requires a "perfect setting" and so many environment conditions in order to return decent photos, how can the customers trust her? As we all know, there will be something going wrong on your wedding day, regardless of how carefully you have planned. And actually, our wedding was extremely smooth and almost perfect (I think all guests feel the same way). 3. Customer service: I reached out to JJ to ask if she can help fine-tune some images. And I am only asking because they are way too off to accept. And as a bride, I am really frustrated to show photos like these to my friends and family. To me, I think that's a legitimate request and I am only asking for tweaking 3 images. However, JJ said no, as photoshop is a very subjective thing. She won't do further retouch once the project is done. This is such a bad customer experience. I think wedding photography is essentially a service industry. And customer satisfaction should be the ultimate goal, especially when the customer made a reasonable request related to a big day that is once in a lifetime. 4. Unprofessional and not respecting client After dwelling on these bad images for a long time, I decided to hire ANOTHER photographer to do a post-wedding session to make up for some regrets. I know this could get personal but client has choice and it is a free market. My post-wedding photos came out amazing and all my friends were like "wow, much better than the wedding day images!" After seeing those photos on fb, JJ un-friended me from her fb friend list. This is extremely unprofessional. Client don't have the obligation to be loyal to a merchant. You need to win them. read more

We had such a great experience working with JJ for our engagement photo shoot and for our wedding. She and her team was able to capture beautiful moments during our engagement photo shoot by the beach and the pictures blew us away. She is great at directing us how to pose and explaining the shot she wants to capture. We were able to feel how energetic and passionate she is about photography. That energy carries over to us and makes us feel at ease and confident when she's taking our photos which I think is a very important trait to have as a photographer. We were very pleased with the outcomes of our engagement photos and were very excited to have her as our photographer for our wedding in June of 2022. We just received our photos from our wedding. Big thanks to her editing team for the quick turnaround on the wedding pictures. I was able to share our wedding pictures on my Instagram in just 3 weeks! The pictures turned out amazing and I loved how she captured candid moments that makes us relived those special moments. It has been an awesome journey having JJ as our photographer! read more

Our friend recommended JJ as our wedding photographer and the immediate first impression we had when browsing her online portfolio was that she was a unique and different photographer. There are many talented photographers but our experience working with JJ for our engagement and wedding sessions confirms that she is a photographer that is constantly exploring new creative compositions of people and environment. Because of her innate desire to understand these compositions and bring them to life, we feel that JJ builds an understanding of new couples, as well as new locations that she photographs. As we now receive our official wedding photos, we can't help but constantly go over them and relive each photograph from another point of view that we had not experienced in our wedding. JJ takes pictures with generous combination of skill, patience and thought based on the nature of the couple and surroundings. For live-action shots that occurred throughout the wedding, we were extremely impressed with how she was able to capture those moments in challenging short time-frame. We feel that JJ is able to capture the energy of those fast moments in the wedding into her pictures, highlighting once again her skills and experience in taking both composed and spontaneous photographs. Another thing we wanted to highlight about JJ is her passion to improve herself and build relationships with her clients. She was able to incorporate additional requests and extensions without considering extra costs during the process. We felt that she put the project's success above the business details. More importantly, we felt very comfortable with the way she communicated with us during our photo sessions. In summary, we are left in awe when we consider the patient choreographed photographs and spontaneous live photographs that JJ has taken for our wedding. It really demonstrates the strength of JJ as a professional photographer in both areas. We feel that we have met a friend through our photography sessions, and we definitely will recommend JJ for future friends and family! We tried to find a photograph who is talented and passionate.When we met JJ, we know she is the one we were looking for. JJ does not just produce the photos. She treats the photos as artworks. She does not just put her " subject" there and presses the button. She always met with us and got to know us, and then created and designed the special "Love Story" for us through her photos. JJ always knows how let her " subject" get into the emotion in her photo. During the session, it was really smooth. She captured all the touched moment. When we saw the pictures, we could not believe that is us and all the pictures are amazing. We are so lucky to have JJ to shot for our engagement session.
