DO NOT EAT HERE. Stopped in needing a break from Italian cuisine and I love a good Irish pub. The sign outside claimed to have onion rings and they had great music playing inside so of course in we go. We sit, and the first thing we're told is no onion rings. Then we look at the menu which is less than desirable but we're here so may as well give it a shot, so I order fries and my husband orders the toasted ham and cheese sandwich. The fries tasted as if they had been cooked in rancid grease. I refused to eat them. The ham and cheese sandwich was lacking both the ham and the cheese, and barely toasted. Sure, this place is fine is you want a drink but if you're hungry....keep walking. read more

Cheap food right in front of Duomo. In this famous square, you are getting food under 10 euro that too with a drink. I can't even imagine a scene like this in the USA or India. Great places to have a drink that offers open-air seating in the piazza. The service was pretty good as when we arrived, all of the tables where taken, even tables for 2/4 people with one person sitting by them. The waitress arranged for us to get a table outside. We ordered Spaghetti- chicken burger which comes with fries and beer. The food was good, no complaint. This Irish pub has a nice view of the Duomo from its outside seating while sipping your glass of choice. We had a good time, and yes - I'd come back again. Me and a friend stopped there to grab a drink and decided to get a class of wine. Apart from it tasting like the boxed wine we drink at fraternity parties. Before getting the wine we weren't greeted and the menu was tossed at us. The server asked for my ID in a rude way and asked us to move tables later on. We were asked to pay when given the wine and felt very rushed. And don't even get me started on the bathrooms, disgusting. Don't go here. read more

Our first few days in Florence we frequently visited the location - good atmosphere outside one of the more traveled squares, drinks were affordable, and were able to catch the football matches on TV. Drink specials were particularly good. Came back on our last day in the city and prices were raised significantly midday in anticipation of the nighttime football match. Bill came in way higher than menu prices - wasn't worth arguing with staff over a few drinks, especially since we had a good experience the first few days, but likely won't come back next time we are in town. Good spot if the specials are on, but definitely not worth it when specials are revoked. read more

Lunch time at the Duomo and my Fave spies a pub. Let's go! We found a seat outdoors on an overcast (didn't think about getting rained on!) but warm day in Spring. The view from our table is incomparable! I see some of the pics of their outdoor terrace and those must be old as we were not in an enclosed area. There were many tables spread out in front of the restaurant on the piazza. We ordered a quick lunch (burger and fries, pasta) and drinks. The waitress told us she was new working there and was learning English. She was super sweet, and super busy! When our food and drinks arrived she apologized, and told us we had to pay now. I actually understand this - we were sitting away from the building, right in the piazza, so it would have been very easy to get up and walk away with no one noticing we didn't pay. I also appreciate that they allowed us to see our food and drink before asking us to pay. (I encountered that once before in Turin and the food was literally inedible so reader beware!) The burger was fine, the fries were good, crunchy on the outside, soft inside. They gave sides of ketchup and mayo w/o charging extra. My spritz seemed to be more club soda than generally expected but at lunch, that was just fine with me as we had miles to walk before the end of the day. The prices were good for being right in the tourist area. The restroom was clean during my visit but beware ladies, it is, as I fondly call them, a 'squatty potty' (hole in the ground). There is a sprayer to rinse everything down when done so it was in good shape when I took my turn at lunch. And really, this is an Italian holiday experience. Everyone should use one of these, if only for the great story you can tell about the experience! The food is basic pub fare and they offer water, soft drinks, a selection of beers, coffee, etc. It's really the view you're after here. Sitting outside, enjoying the Duomo, the people watching, a leisurely afternoon in Florence. There was no outdoor awning or umbrellas when I visited in the Spring. In the heat of summer you'll want those during lunch so check it out before you decide, if you can. read more

An oasis of all thing dive bar in the middle of the tourist rife Duomo.. yes, please! kJ Cathedral has all the things you've grown to love about a drive bar: unpretentious service, cheap drinks, and sports on the TV. I loved it all! From its sticky bar counter to its dubious toilettes, this place reminded me of some of my favorite hometown pubs. The only drawback to this joint is that it does suck in quite a few tourists, poor souls that have scene one cathedral too many and our simply searching for some sanity to the "if this is Tuesday, then it must be Belgium" scene. read more

We didn't have high hopes for this pub because we didn't know it existed until we stumbled upon it one day last week. That said, it was disappointing and a tad dispiriting. We'd been having such a lovely day, decided to step in here for a swift pint, and immediately had our collective buzz harshed. To begin with, you can't sit at the bar! We walked in the door and headed to the taps in the back, and were vigorously shooed away to the front space, which has VERY tightly packed long tables with tall stools. The wait staff knows they are herding tourists, and act accordingly. There's not a smidge of a "local" vibe. Given the location, that's totally understandable, but it was still off-putting. Finally, the bathroom was a bit of a shock. Back in my youthy days, I traveled quite a bit in Europe. During my travels I encountered many a squat toilet and didn't think twice about them. At least at bars, they seemed to be the norm. But it has been EONS since I was young and traveling light, and in the intervening decades, much of Europe has upgraded. Plumbing seems to be "better" and more modern pretty much everywhere - but here in central, touristy Florence, the JJ Cathedral has... A SQUAT! OMG! It's not dirty, although it's a tad run down. This little bar is tucked away in the shadow of the magnificent Duomo--technically making this a tourist trap. But, I found that nearly all the patrons were Florentine locals. While the nice selection of beers and specialty beer shooters, starting at 2€, are nice, the most memorable thing about Old Stove were the bartenders, patrons and staff. Maybe it was a function the holiday season, but I could totally get used to the hand kissing and friendly Old World bartenders giving my husband advise on how to keep me happy. read more

Always try to find an Irish pub in each city I travel to. This one in Florence has the typical food and drink selection which after a week in Italy was a nice break from the pizza and pasta we'd been having. The food was good and the server friendly. The view being on the Piazza is fantastic. The one gotcha is the restroom, be prepared, suggest not using it. Would stop by the Pub again, though. read more

Waitresses don't really tell you about what it is you're paying for, just keep bringing me refills without saying oh each refill is a charge. Beer is cheaper than soda. Wtf? Only thing Irish about this pub is the decor. I got the cheeseburger and it was Very dry and bland. Once food is served they make you pay before you even get a chance to eat. There's an upstairs part of the bar. The fries are way below average. They have these croquette potatoes that are ok. You're better off waiting til you get someplace else. If I wanted to feel this way after eating I would've gone to McDonald's at least there I get free refills. What I did like about this place, location near the Duomo and the music was coo. Stopped by for a quick bite before dinner after checking into our hotel. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the cheeseburger. Beware, the chicken burger looks nothing like the picture. A lightly breaded piece of a processed chicken patty, fries were less than mediocre. Bread was also overtoasted. My husband said a cheeseburger at McDonald's would have tasted better. Also, disappointed they didn't have any fish and chips. We had to pay immediately after we were served our food. Boyfriend and I stopped in here after walking around Florence for several hours and working up an appetite. The pub looked promising, so we figured it was worth a shot. First, the decor is amazing. I absolutely loved it. Our waitress was really nice and genuinely friendly and helped us figure out where a specific street we were looking for was. That is about where the highlights end. The tables are essentially tiny wooden stools and a small table. I am not a large person, standing at about 5'4" and 120lbs, and I barely fit onto the stool, so I can't imagine how my boyfriend felt. I ordered fish and chips, and received essentially a large fish stick (yes- one- a single- large fish stick), a packet of mayonnaise, and french fries that I could have cooked myself in my oven. My boyfriend ordered a hamburger and fries, and I am not exaggerating when I say that McDonald's would seem gourmet next to this burger. The food was mediocre at best; it's cheap, and it shows. In addition, they make you pay immediately when your meal is set on the table. I wasn't offended, but it threw me off a bit because it seemed as if they were trying to get us out as quickly as possible. Overall, atmosphere is great and staff is friendly, but do not expect good food. With that said, alcohol was super cheap. Finally, before I forget, the only toilet is a squat toilet, which came as a bit of a shock. The bathroom was in bad condition as well. read more

We wanted a break from all the Italian food (after two weeks of pasta) so we decided to give it a try. The prices seemed reasonable at first. As we sat down, the waited accidentally spilled an entire beer down the front of my shirt. I had to walk 10 mins back to our place so I could change. It wasn't the the end of the world. I came back and had a crappy meal. Bad burger, bad fries. Didn't have much flavor and the portion was small. The worst part came when we were charged a full 41 euros for the 4 meals. I got no discount or consideration for the major mishap that happened, and we were laughed at when inquiring about the discount. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more
