I ordered the spicy chicken ramen and would rate it an 7.5/10! The broth was on the saltier side but you don't see chicken ramen often so I'm glad I got to try it. The noodles were the thin ramen noodles and it was cooked to the right texture. The chicken slices were veryyyy tender and well seasoned. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be. I also ordered the fried chicken pieces to try and that was just okay. The batter was a bit hard and the chicken inside was a bit chewy. The waiter was nice and food came out really fast. My husband and I got into town to start our vacation and needed a spot for a late dinner. This was walking distance and seemed busy so we figured it was good. We walked in and got seated at the bar immediately, which was awesome. Service was fantastic all night too. The food - it was our first meal in Canada and we were SO impressed. I love Ramen. Decided to try the take-out / delivery version from Jinya since I was craving some! I got the Sprouting Up Ramen which is my normal dine-in go to dish. When you get it delivered, they put the broth in a separate (reheat-able) container and the noodles and other components in another container. This means the noodles and pork were NOT soggy upon delivery which is much appreciated. I do think the dine-in version is better, but I was surprised that the delivery version was fairly good too. Great ramen place in Calgary! So it's one of these ramen places that are trendy but good. Their menu offers good ramen choices plus other small plates such as mini tacos and dumplings. Also vegetarian options. Prices are the standard ones. The place is well-decorated and clean. Kinda of a small place but cozy. Staff were really nice and polite. Service was fast and our ramens were well-prepared and warm. I got the Original Tonkotsu ramen with a Japanese peach flavoured soda. The ramen was great! Great taste, good quality of ingredients and enough to fill up your belly when you're starving. I would totally recommend this ramen place when you're looking for something warm, quick to get and tasty. Especially during the Calgarian winter. But, it can get really busy. You might wait for a long time to get a table. Overall, pretty similar. I got a seat at the long table. Definitely can get cozy and meet some new friends. So, I ordered the Chicken karaage ramen (Chef special). It was pretty pricy for a bowl of ramen if I were to compare it to Vancouver BC price. But overall not bad. It came with three big pieces of chicken karaage. Broth very thick and flavorful. Will definitely fill you up if you drink all the soup. But I think I prefer the Sprouting up ramen over the chicken karaage ramen. Décor is quite nice and I do like it. JINYA Ramen Bar continues to expand. First heard about them in Vancouver and they've already set up shop in Calgary.   Hours are pretty good. Everyday open till 10:00pm! The inside is very chic modern. - Peach and mango pop ($3.80 each) - cute little Japanese fruit drinks. I tried a taste of both; tasted like fizzy pop with a lighter, more subtle flavour. - JINYA Bun ($4.50) - this surprised me. The bun was light, fluffy and the chashu completely tenderized. - Old school ramen ($12.50) - I thought this one would match my ramen preferences but broth/noodles weren't to my liking. Thin noodles didn't do it for me. I decided to combo up my ramen with their pork gyoza (4 pieces) and salad combo ($4.95). Salad was pretty standard but the sauce was tasty. The gyoza were better than expected. Crispy, juicy inside and not just an afterthought.  - Premium tonkotsu white ($13.25) - broth was much more flavourful. Natdogg throughly enjoyed it. - Vegetable soup ramen ($11.95) - don't see many vegetarian ramen's so keep this in mind if you have vegetarian friends. What I got: Old Skool Ramen ($13) Pros: - We were a group of 7 girls from Toronto, just got back from a long day trip to Banff. It was -10 degrees outside and we were walking around at 8pm looking for someplace to eat. All the restaurants on 17th ave immensely packed on a Saturday night and to our relief we finally found a place that fit everyone without a reservation. - Not only was JINYA large and hospitable, the ramen wasn't bad despite this being a chain restaurant. The broth wasn't so salty or heavy, with the egg and bamboo sprouts made perfectly. I liked that they didn't cut the egg so the yolk didn't run into the soup. I wouldn't compare this to Michelin starred ramen I've tried in Japan, but for the ingredients and taste compared to other places in Calgary- this was solid. Cons: - Like ramen everywhere, the ingredients can be a bit scant- just a piece of meat, egg and bamboo shoot. This is the way ramen is made, but I think some people might find that the taste gets boring just eating noodles and broth. If you're looking for something with more ingredients, I would consider the vegetarian option, there are more toppings in there and tastes pretty good too. - Price is steeper than some other ramen places I've been to in Toronto. read more

I'm glad this place caters to vegetarians! The restaurant is small and cute (I noticed a sign that says their max capacity is 57 people). Decor is modern and there is bar, high top, and table seating. We were seated immediately and service was quick. We ordered the Spicy Garlic Edamame to start. It's served cold and definitely has a kick. We enjoyed it. For ramen, I ordered the current special: Spicy Vegan DanDanMen and added a seasoned egg. You can choose your spice level: mild, spicy, or hot. I went with spicy, but should have gone with mild since it was a tad bit too spicy for me. The ramen, however, was great. The miso broth was absolutely delicious, and I really enjoyed the noodles as well. My boyfriend ordered the Cha Cha Cha ramen. He enjoyed it, but said it was skimpy on meat. Also, the menu says this ramen is for garlic lovers. He said the garlic flavour is there, but is not overly strong. He actually preferred the taste of my miso broth to his pork broth. Our bill with tax and tip came to $47. Overall, a decent ramen place. Not out of this world, but far from terrible. read more

We had the Jinya Tonkotsu Original 2010 and it was good. I particularly liked how the thick noodles were cooked. The pork chashu melts in your mouth and the broth is tasty but not too thick. Not a fan of the spinach though as it leaves a bitter taste when you eat the noodles with it. Also had the pork gyoza. It was good but can't say it's the best I've tasted in town. Came here on Sunday for lunch at 1230p. Started to get busy. We got a table for 4 right away but a few minutes later there was a line. This is an American chain. Seems very hip with lots of people but also families. They were very busy which is a good sign. I had the Tonkotsu Spicy with thick noodles. Broth was perfect and the noodles were great texture. No egg though which I didn't realize. Kids had Tonkotsu Black with thin noodles. They seemed to enjoy it. Came with a full egg. They also ordered extra noodles this time thick. At other Ramen places normal noodles seems to be between this ones thin and thick. Wife had the Sprouting Up Tonkotsu with thick noodles. Lots of sprouts - she doesn't like Brussel sprouts. Good flavour. She thought the noodles were too thick and the thin ones too thin. Servers were friendly and quick and came by to check on us once in awhile. They serve tap water here so I went with a Sapporo which came quickly. Food was quick too. Parking is street parking which can get filled up on Sunday. read more

We were sat and served very quickly with our soups arriving in no time at all. Friendly service and I think reasonable prices for Mission/intercity. My bowl was about $15. This is one of my favorite & best ramen places I have ever been in Calgary. The atmosphere is welcoming with the usual Japanese greeting, irasshaimase, (which I tend to say it too when other customers get seated) prior to getting seated. The menu selection is quite large for a ramen bar with a few other unconventional (mini tacos) menu items. There were a lot of ramen flavors to choose from and descriptive on the contents to help better understand. We ordered JINYA Tokotsu Black, Old Skool & Sukiyaki Q Ramen flavors and all of these ramens were fantastic in flavor (especially the broth), ingredients (the egg was amazing and I recommend to add on more egg), harmonizing flavors and texture. The pork tacos are a great little appetizer, super light and refreshing after a hot afternoon. This was my first time trying the Cha Cha Cha ramen, which is definitely for garlic lovers as the menu states. They even give you a garlic press with fresh cloves of garlic to crush in! Solid Ramen bar, we tried the tempura Brussels sprouts, tempura shrimp to start. Both really delicious and comes with yummy sauces. I drained my Lychee-tini (garnished with a lychee skewer) because it was delicious! For the mains, we tried a range of dishes, including the veggie ramen bowl. A bunch of us had the Black Ramen though which was really good. No need to add on a ajitsuke tamago (flavored hard boiled egg) which is gooey and delicious- it has one already. Of course, when you enter, the hostess shouts out to announce your arrival and all the staff respond- so that's fun. They do not take reso's so you have to kick it old school by putting your name on the list, but have fun with the name. I wouldn't say it's my fave Ramen joint in the city, but it's a chain so that's not surprising. It is definitely a solid option though, and a great location! read more

I am not a ramen person by any means, but cold weather and limited options dragged me over here with my wife. Happy wife happy life right? The wait times were pretty rough, and with the wait outside on a cold cold day, it was easy to want to walk away. This was on a weekday afternoon so it had to be good right? This is coming from a vegan, they do have a handful of ramens that are already vegan and a handful of vegan appetizers. The ramen I had ordered was full of flavor, the broth was appetizing in itself and with plant based meat in it, I scarfed it all down. So much so, I had to admit to my wife that I really enjoyed our meal, and in a pinch the next day in our travels we had grabbed ramen to go. From someone who can't stand ramen, this is definitely a place you want to check out. The only reason for 4 stars is the appetizers weren't mind blowing. My first time at Jinya, ordered their special Tokyo Tonkatsu Ramen. It is good but for $14.50 , I was expecting a bit more in terms of ingredients. The broth was flavourful but it was not hot enough. With this Ramen it came with thin noodles, you can change your noodles for extra cost. NO THANK YOU! ill keep the thin noodles. That being said, if you finish your noodles you can ask for more noodles at an extra cost, but to me not worth it when your soup is not HOT. I did enjoy the egg, very good and perfectly done. Since they don't take resos, we arrived just as they opened for lunch. Good thing too because it was quite nippy out, there's no waiting area and it got really busy shortly after (more on that in a bit). There's definitely a lot of options including rice bowls and snacks, but stuck with what we were there for: the ramen! My Tonkotsu Black looked and sounded appetizing enough: pork broth, kikurage, nori, seasoned egg, garlic chips, fried onions and spicy sauce on thin noodles. The savoury broth was a perfect richness and there was a decent amount of noodles and meat to fill me up. The venue isn't very big but it is open concept. Once it gets busy, it gets really loud. In addition to the music, there's yelling/greeting from the service staff as people come in and the diners talking over each other, it's quite difficult to maintain a conversation. Your options could be to come at an off time or I guess you can contribute to the noise and be loud as well lol The food is decent and so is the price. I can easily eat spicy food but I was afraid to go high as I was told it gets quite hot if you ordered anything over 6. I decided to go with level 1 and add hot sauce if needed.
