Jim's Joint is the not so assuming BBQ restaurant. It flat out was good. From the ambulance, unpretentious, to the food terrific. We came as a party of three, all ordered different items. Pork ribs, pork sliders, to my beef sandwich. And, with the three of us, no one complained. It was good, very good and simply made. Staff was terrific, friendly and helpful. The place was spotless, oh, and the sauces were great. Although I'm not a local, but a two time a year guy, I hope Jim's out lasts the scary pandemic times. read more

Great little BBQ joint. There were four of us and we all tried a different sandwich. Both the brisket and pulled pork were flavorful and juicy. They were all very good. I liked their spicy bbq sauce. Good kick. As far as sides, the potato salad was pretty good. The max and cheese, not so much. Will definitely stop by again to try other menu options. read more

Food-delicious if they have it. Three times I've had to walk out when they're out of ribs. Today, a Saturday in the middle of tourist season they didn't even make any to open with. We almost past this building up because it didn't look like much but then I asked some folks carrying food out if they liked the place and they said it was amazing. Well it is amazing. For the record I'm a TV photographer and worked for the food network for years. We covered some of the best BBQ in the country and this measures up with the absolute best. Ok, I'm a vegetarian but figure there is always gonna be at least a non meat side I can eat. And my travel companion was excited about finding a BBQ place in the remote area of northern Michigan. So I had the baked beans (yes I know probably make with meat somewhere but I have to make concessions), not that great but I always love beans. My friend had the brisket salad and just loved it! Surprised they didn't take an order to go as backup for our stay in Empire. I love the simple place, order at the counter, get what you need at the condiment bar and take a seat. Highly recommend this place, make your non-vegetarian friends happy. And they have a very creamy rich mac & cheese. read more

Our company had gotten BBQ and the works from Jim's last summer when working on the Benzie Schools. So this summer after deciding to have a company appreciation/retirement Charter Fishing out of Frankfort, we knew that we wanted a noon meal. We was given local suggestions from the charter folks, but with near 30 to feed it was proving a problem finding a place. One of the guys mentioned using you last year. Everything worked so well, able to have the meal when we wanted it, the food was excellent, we were able to eat together under a close by pavilion, & we saved at least half the cost if we would have taken this to the restaurant. If you are even remotely close to the little town of Honor you should eat at Jim's Joint. It's close enough to Frankfort & Elberta (just come here you won't be disappointed). It's fresh authentic BBQ. Sides are all made in house (can vouch for the mac -n-cheese, beans and corn cakes). So so good! While camping in the area I set out to find an authorized firewood retailer, along the way I came across Jim's Joint. Being that I love BBQ places I had to stop and let me tell you they didn't disappoint! The smokestack sandwich, beans, and potato salad were AWESOME! Jim's Joint has the best beef and pork BBQ that we've ever tasted. Their sides are fresh and tasty, also. We ordered BBQ platters to go, and were extremely pleased to find that it was packaged so the meat was separate from the sides and the bun, thus allowing everything to arrive home without getting soggy. It was an easy matter to heat up the meat and bun while keeping the coleslaw and potato salad nice and cold in the refrigerator. In addition, the staff is friendly and the service is fast. My husband and I are on vacation from Texas. We just happened on the Jim's. He ordered the Smokestack and I got the Beef platter. Their portions are large. And the food is so good. I recommend you come out to try it. Our only complaint would be we that we would like to put our own BBQ sauce on our meat. That being said their sauce is really delicious. So I guess that's not really a complaint. But they had other sauces we wanted to try. We will be coming back the next time we are up here. read more

Great example of why you need to visit Sleeping Bear area in the winter. We went for lunch last week and found the barbecue awesome. Try the Smokestack sandwich, or even better try something else and let your wife get the sandwich and share half with you. Not that I planned it. Going in the winter added a bonus - not only the staff but Jim and his wife came out to say hi. I'm sure they're just as friendly in the summer but probably a lot busier. We'll be back! read more

If you are in driving distance of Honor, Jim's Joint is worth the drive. If your already in Honor it's worth a try. I have been in several times and I have yet to have a bad or even mediocre experience. The BBQ is great and so is the service. If you like BBQ this place is great! read more

Eek! BAD & BAD guest service, BAD! BAD. FOOD Dry! No reason, Did't even know Owner's name??? OR about rib's being cooked?

I was in last night with a date so I called ahead to hold a half rack. Upon arrival I ordered a half pound of their pork, half pound of their brisket and the half rack along with one of each of their sides except chips. Ill say the cornbread side was the only palatable item on either tray. The brisket was tough even though it was shaved 1/8" thin (how you attempt to make tough brisket tender), the pork was so dry extra sauce was required, the ribs were dry and I feel that nothing I ate was made that day. The Mac and cheese was lacking any type of passion, the beans just tasted like smoke, the potato salad and the coleslaw were alright. To ice the cake, I feel they knew they were serving less than quality because after spending $50 the food was dropped and was not checked on or spoken to afterwards. A lot to work on if you're going to stay in the restaurant game! read more

She had the BBQ Pork Sandwich and I had the Rib Platter with corn cakes and coleslaw. Yum, yum, yum. The atmosphere is very casual, but the place is really clean and the staff is great. You order at the counter and by the time you get your (self-serve) drink, napkin & utensils, and sit down, your food is in front of you.
