Jim did a great job. He's a great guy. Haircut was reasonably priced. Haircut was symmetrical. Overall it was a great experience.

Kampus Kuts - Ryan, Super Hero Barber and me (Kindra Speech) after his work!

I want to send a shout out to Kampus Kuts Barbershop and Salon in Carbondale, IL, particularly…read moreBarber Ryan. I recently started having some health issues that caused my beautiful long hair to start breaking off and falling out. As a Dramatic Diva, this caused me to take drastic measures and cut out my 21" SisterLocks™ myself. HUGE MISTAKE! Enter Ryan, my Super Hero Barber. I called Kampus Kuts after finding them on Yelp. Once he heard of my need, Ryan was willing to take me on short notice for an early morning appointment the next day. Y'all, let me tell you that this young man is more than a barber! He is exceptionally good at his job as a barber, as you will see from the pictures, but his personality and spirit is also exceptional. It was awesome learning about his family and education (he's working on his PhD), and how he is an integral part of his community. I enjoy finding businesses who are really integrated into their communities. Actually, as I sat in his chair, a young woman stopped by the barbershop to thank him for his support through a conversation they had the day before. In his capacity as a psychologist, Ryan often is in a position to help others right from the barbershop. Inside Kampus Kuts itself, you will find a unique and eclectic collection of vintage barber furniture, a pool table, and various seating arrangements. There are hand painted windows and murals inside and outside of the building. It is clean, accessible, and open to all. This small, minority-owned business is definitely a staple in the community, and I am so glad to have stumbled across it. If you are looking for a great haircut and/or style while you shoot the breeze with enlightened individuals, I highly recommend Kampus Kuts. When you stop by, tell them Kindra Speech sent ya.

Service was friendly, good chat, and continued to check in for satisfaction on cut. Rio provided opportunity for critique and offered additional appointment if dissatisfied. Call ahead for appointments as it can get busy being by a university campus.

This is a genuine, mens barber shop ! For those of you who grew up going to a barber with your…read moredad, this place will bring back those memories and experiences. Not to mention it costs $13 for the haircut and not $20 like most other places charge for 8 minutes worth of work. The barber is friendly as are the regulars. I'm new in town and they welcomed me as soon as I sat down and was pulled right into their conversation. For the short time I was there we talked about politics, fishing, a little bit of town history, and the antics of one of the wives. The barber did a good job in cutting my hair, using the electric sheers briefly and mainly using scissors, which is the way I like it. As he was finishing up he lathered some shaving cream around the back of my neck and used a razor for a clean shave! A practice almost unheard of in this day and age. Oh yea, you also sit in an old time barber chair, which is a wide seat and comfortable, not the type most salons have which are designed for a woman and most guys end up getting squeezed in and the foot rest is so narrow you have to crunch in your legs, thus straining your package. So it was refreshing sitting in a nice wide chair here ! So, if you've not been here, I would recommend it. The service is friendly, quick, and the clientele is also friendly. and did I mention it only cost $13 !! I'll certainly be checking in here again !
