The two technicians showed up on time yesterday (promised 9-10 AM) after sending an "on our way" text). They recommended using the pleated filters instead of the blue fiberglass variety. He had a 20"x25" pleated filter in the truck that was a little long for our space. So, he took a pair of shears, chopped off just enough, and used the cardboard form cleared of material to put a border back on! Voila! Another service was cleaning the fins (?) on the outdoor compressor. After turning off the power outside, he used a hose to flush out the accumulated detritus in the unit. Our system is back to working great again! I had a chance to speak with one of the brother/owners, Paul, this evening, to share my feedback on the service call. Sounds like a very nice guy. I thanked him for their well-trained techs.

Couldn't recommend Duke City less. They installed a new AC unit in November before my fiancé moved…read moreinto our new house. Fast forward several months and all of a sudden there's a scary water stain on the ceiling in one of our closets. Our TPO roof is pretty new and under warranty, so I called our contractor. (Besides Duke City, we've had no work done up on the roof since moving in.) He immediately asked if we'd had a new AC installed because someone left a bunch of screws near the unit and stepped on them, leaving punctures in the TPO. Because it was damaged by someone else and not something naturally occurring, the repair is not covered by the warranty or insurance. I contacted Duke City with the all the photos and my invoice. I hoped they would help with the cost of this repair, even just partial help with it, but they've essentially said too bad so sad. My fiancé and I are getting married in May and money is tight. Now we have a fast spreading water stain with mildew and a new leaking roof that's damaged by a company that won't take accountability. I know it took a while to notice the damage, which was their excuse for not taking responsibility, but I find that incredibly disingenuous to say "sorry you didn't notice the pinprick holes we left in your roof fast enough". Sorry we live in the desert and it's just now monsoon season so it's the only time we'd be able to tell. Save your money and sanity. Choose any other company to do your heating and cooling.

That did NOT happen; instead I was charged $370.71 for 1+ hrs to troubleshoot. Turns out the Fan Motor & Capacitor on the Furnace were OUT!. Mechanic/Owner managed to stop entire process due to water condensation. He suggested to leave it for a few hours to dry and and he would return later in day/evening. Which he DID! However, prior to leaving the morning diagnosis, he INSISTED he get paid for that portion $370.71, which was WRONG as job was NOT yet completed. Eli did return and replaced Fan Motor (w/a universal part), and the Capacitor (stated supply shop charged him $100 to go get parts as they were closing). After AC was repaired, he required an additional $615.02 (which included hourly rate of $149.99, mechanical permit (WHY) cost and Dispatch fee that upon my initial call was told it would be WAIVED! Later that evening I received a quote to replace entire system for $15,821.17 - upon other estimates, completely OUT OF RANGE. He also stated the warranty would NOT be 'valid' because the existing copper wiring was going through the roof and his install would require 2 (2x2) holes in adjacent room to ensure 'new' copper system was completely NEW! I feel like I was taken advantage of due to my age, and single woman status. No discounts of ANY type or compassion for a woman. I asked for a discount or leniency on the price and he said NO! Do not use Tarango Heating and Cooling! I hired Leonel Tarango to install a gas line on the side of…read moremy house from my gas meter to my backyard. He drew up a vague "contract" over text message. The contract stated that if he was to do ALL the work, including labor, trenching, and materials, he would charge me $2500. If I was to do the trenching, he would charge me $1050 - we settled on this option. He ended up charging me $2000 total, which I begrudgingly paid because the trench I dug was not perfect and he had to do a small amount of digging by hand. When asked, he did not give me a materials list nor did he provide their cost, intentionally leaving room to dramatically inflate the final price. However, what really threw salt in my wound was that he never even finished the job. My A/C condenser unit had to be disconnected and moved because it was in the way of the trench and he has refused to move it back. When asked to finish the job, he tried to screw me out of another $350. I reminded him over a heated phone call that part of the original deal was to reconnect my A/C but he is still refusing to get it done. Leonel Tarango is a snake in the grass who uses unclear language, unprofessional text-message contracts, and the "foot in the door" technique to screw unsuspecting customers LESSONS LEARNED: LESSON 1- Always make sure the contract is EXTREMELY detailed to prevent any wiggle room for shady contractors to weasel their way out of seemingly obvious tasks that common sense says should be considered included in the contract. (If you move the A/C condenser, you should obviously hook it back up.) Lesson 2- Always ask for an itemized list of materials, their cost (if not purchased yourself), labor cost, permit cost etc. LESSON 3- Always buy ALL materials yourself before the job is started. Leonel refused to provide a list of materials and intentionally obscured their actual cost when repeatedly asked. That's how he cons his customers. He gets his foot in the door with a reasonable price, then makes up whatever number he feels like for the materials.
