Trees by Kevin M Dyer - Happies Backyard in St Pete :-)

Trees by Kevin M Dyer

Six days ago, we endured one of the worst hurricanes to ever strike the US mainland -- Hurricane…read moreMichael. While Tallahasse fared better than many communities west of us, we were still slammed with massive damage and 100,000 homes and businesses without power. As of today, many still are. We were luckier than most. Lots of debris but just one tree (almost) down -- splintered at the lower trunk, leaning precariously and only held up by leaning on two other trees in my neighbors yard. I needed a Tree Service -- fast -- and waiting four days for a local company we've used before to get to us. And then we flagged down a truck passing on my street with a Clearwater/St. Pete phone number emblazoned on its side: Trees by Kevin M. Dyer. We discussed the work needed, Kevin gave an estimate, we agreed and his team went right to work. And did way more than we'd planned. And I could not be happier. I really wanted a local company, but waived that for Dyer. They are licensed, insured and a FEMA contractor. They know their stuff. They have a huge team and all the right equipment. They have earned my trust and confidence in their honesty and integrity. And they do amazing work at a remarkably reasonable price. We originally wanted them for that big, badly damaged tree in my backyard. They wanted a lot of money for that one (though less than another local company that finally showed up to give an estimate) because it was inaccessible, they could not use their crane and had to cut it piece by piece manually. Ok. But they made up for it by giving me very reasonable prices for other problem trees in my front yard and threw in all kinds of other services. All in all, they removed five large trees (the original one in the back and four in the front, including grinding the stumps) -- and didn't charge me for removing two small ones, trimming some limbs, blowing off my roof and cleaning my gutters. Dyer's workers were freaking machines -- worked tirelessly and furiously for two days from 9 am - 7 pm with few breaks. They were on a mission (even dazzling my wife, Stefanie, who does not impress easily). And, all were super nice, polite and friendly. They did a LOT of work for a good price -- and did a terrific job. My neighbor was so impressed, they too hired them to remove five trees. The company is Trees by Kevin M. Dyer, phone (727) 557-4000. If you need help, call him (and, if you're in Tallahassee, better call him quick; they are heading back to their base in Largo soon) -- and say I referred you. I could not give higher praise or stronger recommendation. He'll treat you right.

They took a 36 yr old Loral Oak tree which was diseased and hanging over two houses. With Hurricane season coming, it was the safe thing to do! We will definitely hire them again; therefore, we would greatly recommend them!

They're close by and family owned so I reached out; they responded in a flash! So I set up a delivery time for today, as the owner's wife said that they could deliver right away...I really lucked out as they are a very busy operation! So out they came and dropped off around a fifth of a cord. They stacked it in a nice neat pile in a corner of my garage. Joe the owner also tossed in a few pieces of pine for the fun of it. He asked me if I'd like to have a nice odor in the fireplace (lol)! Very nice man who seems quite hands on in his business. His wife Lorri is a nice and pleasant person too! Anyway, after they left we tossed a couple of those big old hunks of wood into the fireplace. Wow; this stuff is burning nicely and creates a lovely aroma in my living room! They have a "yard" near Largo Hospital and appreciate it if you go pick up your firewood. However they deliver cheerfully for a mere $10 if you're not horribly far away. So I paid for this mountain of firewood a mere $55 delivery included. That's three bundles, all stacked neatly as I asked. So I'd say that's at least 60 pretty healthy sized logs out there in the ol' woodpile. That works out to under a dollar per piece. Try getting THAT kinda value from your local Lowe's, Walmart or 7-11 if even they HAVE any in stock. As I indicated earlier, this is a locally owned small business, so I'm more than happy to support them. I really got a lot of bang for my buck, so I'd definitely call myself a future repeat customer. If you need firewood, give these folks a chance. You'll be glad you did!

They were equally as quick getting the job done and had excellent prices. They came out immediately gave me an estimate, which was fair and reasonable. When I said yes, and when can you start the job, they said, this can't wait and started right away. It was 4:30 pm, plus they had just finished a job. But they felt it was a job that had to be started to lighten the load on the roof. The next morning they finished it and cleaned up great and I was extremely happy for the honest & quickness of this company. I understand the company is under new ownership and the new owner are fantastic, and very knowledgeable on trees, being an arborist.

They were not the lowest but they did propose using a crane to remove the tree. (see pic) Camphor trees are an invasive species and mine was beginning to ruin my concrete patio. Shawn Waller (owner) suggested using a crane so that my yard would not be trashed from heavy machinery. Doing business with Acorn is always effortless. After I called to ask for a bid, Shawn was out the same day to take a look at my tree. I then received the formal bid via email. To my surprise, the crew showed up at my home at precisely 8AM. Most other work crews that I have hired over the years arrived whenever they felt like it. Acorn was totally professional. During the job, the work crew was mindful of all of my other vegetation. I grow orchids in my backyard and they were not disturbed, at all. The crew was experience and immediately went to work. It was a big job and they were done with the grinding of the stump at around 3:30PM. They left the site as clean as when they had arrived. I heartily recommend this company. They're crews are made up of experienced professionals.

From the start, they knew I didn't live at the property and that my tenants--who work from home--would be there. I expected regular upkeep: mowing, trimming, weeding, and general yard care. Recently, my tenants let me know the yard had been severely neglected, especially the backyard. When I brought it up to Brandon, the owner, he said the crew hadn't accessed the backyard in weeks due to a locked gate. Instead of simply knocking on the door or informing me, they just skipped it--without saying a word--while continuing to charge me for full service. After canceling the service, I hired a new company to assess the yard. The photos they sent were disturbing: weeds overtaking the gravel areas, a palm tree broken in half due to decay, and no signs of proper maintenance--none of which was ever reported to me. My tenants also mentioned the crew is usually on-site for no more than five minutes. The only consistent effort has been a quick, sloppy weed-whacking around the grass edges. Debris, leaves, and weeds pile up around the mulch and patio unless the tenants clean it themselves. As an out-of-town homeowner, I trusted Royal Tree and Palm to do their job and communicate. Instead, they delivered poor, inconsistent service and took advantage of the fact that I wasn't there to see it. I absolutely do not recommend this company.
