I sent the following to Jimmy Smith Buick gmc on 12 Jun 2024 using their contact form on the internet.  I have not received a reply as yet. I have a 2004 leSabre with right at 106 thousand actual miles on it. A while back Jimmy Smith said I needed some major engine work done. They did the work and my gas mileage went from 400 plus miles per tank to 300 - 275 miles per tank. I carried it back to them and was told I had a gas leak that they repaired and I had to paythem for doing. wonder if it was result of the engine repair work? I must still have the gas leak because my gas mileage has not improved. I have told the service personnel at least three times and they act like they are scared of it. This past Monday I brought the car to them because the front passenger window would not go up. I was told that they had to order the parts, they would call me Tue when the parts came in. They also said the speaker cover was left off and would be put back on when the window was repaired. Tues at about 12:30pm I called and the lady said oh yea the parts are here, I said I'll be right there. I live in Harvest. At about 3:30pm we were told it was ready. We paid $458.58 (parts were $171.17) and left. When we got home i noticed a hole in the speaker cover, it is about one inch square. I want to know if this is the Jimmy Smith standards? Is this the service I would get if I had a new Buick or GMC. My car is almost 20 years old making it close to time for us to get a new car, But do I want to get it at a place with these standards, I don't think so. I know I should have found the hole in the speaker cover before we left there But if you choose to answer my concerns I would love to read or hear it. I have posted this several times and in diffrent places and i have heard Nothing from Jimmy Smith. I am about ready to buy a new car but I doubt it will be a Buick from Jimmy Smith after this experience??? Update as of 15 Aug 2025:  I had a problem with the car. I found a mechanic and he replaced the ignition modules and coils.  This is something the "major" work jimmy smith did should have included.  It runs like a new car now. We are long time purchasers of vehicles from this dealership, Jimmy Smith GMC. Our 2022 GMC Sierra truck still under warranty, would not start. OnStar hauled it to this dealership Monday morning and as of 4:30 pm today, two days later, they will not try to determine what is wrong with it. They say it's a work in and will not tell us when we can expect it to be fixed. We are long time customers and this vehicle is under warranty and should be given more priority than this. We will not consider buying another vehicle from this dealership if this is the way they treat long time customers. read more

BEWARE. Jimmy Smith GMC's service department tried to charge my sister $1200 for an item covered under warranty. A quality dealership (Jimmy Smith GMC is Not) would have the customer as a 1st priority. Why would they try and cheat a single female? I just wanted new headlights, NOW THE BUMPER IS ALMOST FALLING OFF THE CAR! I recently brought my regal in to have the headlights replaced. I bought the cases from Amazon. They said they would put them in. They did, I paid $500 for this.Plus, I had to go back 2 times. $300 more! I was thinking its silly just for a headlight. The last time was kinda upsetting. When I got home my bumper is barely hanging on. I have been sick since and I still cannot see at night with the headlights. I thought a dealership would do better! I'm a single woman. The GMC 1500 Series has a high pressure fuel pump towards the front of the engine. After 60k miles or so it starts ticking. Really sounds bad at idle especially at a drive thru or next to another vehicle. I took it back twice and they said it's normal. Would not replace even when under warranty as it's really not broken. Do your research online. I personally will never buy another GMC or use that dealer. read more

Took my vehicle serval times for the same issue. Long story short, I did a claim against GM for the transmission amongst other things with the BBB. I needed the copy of my last work order and the report is a complete lie. When I asked the service manager, Mike, about it, he told me I'm lying and I did say those things. He was not even on the test ride with us. They manipulated my paperwork and said I was lying about everything and I'm crazy and it's all in my head the issues with my truck. Yet, they worked on it 3 times. I'm also curious as to why they put 1,000 miles on my truck while in there possession. He didn't want to talk to me about this because of the BBB and stated I have a case against him. I do not, it is against GM because you told me you were not going to fix my vehicle. Now, they have lied on what will be court documents. Nice job service manager smh. This is only a little bit of the issue but this is what set me off. Lied on my paperwork to try and protect himself and a liar to my face when confronted about it. I will never go here again or any Jimmy Smith location and you shouldn't either. read more

Brought my truck in for service a month ago and my intake had to be removed so my truck could be worked on. Came back on 8/11 due to the check engine light flashing. Told me they fixed the problem and charged me $150 to put my intake back on cause it has "fallen off" causing my check engine light to blink. Explained to them it had in fact not fallen off cause I checked under the hood the day before and it was very much intact and even if it had fallen off, why didn't they put it on correctly when I had my truck serviced previously. Truck is still flashing the engine code and the service manager rudely told me there would be no refund. Not the first time I've been lied to by this service department. On Fri. 8/25 my wife and I bought a Cadillac Escalade. We traded in our vehicle and we were asked by the Sales person Bob Sherrod "if we had 2 keys to our vehicle that we were trading?" I told him yes, and he made the comment that "of course they had 2 keys for the Cadillac Escalade that I was purchasing because Escalade Owners tend to keep up with that sort of thing." When all of the paperwork was near complete it was around closing time on a Friday evening and Jerry Moseley (Sales Mgr) asked us to allow him to detail the vehicle and bring it to us on Monday because it had been sitting outside with rain & dust, and this would allow us to complete the rest of the paperwork over the weekend because we had been at the Dealership for several hours. Bob Sherrod told us that he would have the vehicle cleaned and either he or Jason Graviet (the other sales person I initially contacted online) would bring it to us Monday. I wrote the dealership a check for 20% of the Cadillac Escalade's price as a down payment until all the paperwork was complete and we received what we were promised. We agreed with Jerry (Sales Mgr) and on Tuesday 8/29, Jason brought our new Cadillac Escalade, I gave him a check for the remainder of the vehicle and of course...the inside was not detailed, and we were not given a 2nd key. I immediately, called Bob Sherrod, our salesperson who promised all of this and left 2 voicemails. I also text messaged him, and to all of this he never responded (of course this was a stark difference to how he communicated before the sale was officially completed days before, we text messaged back and forth and he had called me several times). I even called the Dealership to speak with someone else because Bob would not come to the phone because he was too busy with other customers when I called. I gave him a day to return my voicemails and called back on Wed. The receptionist transferred me to Steve West (Business Mgr.) who assured me that Bob Sherrod, should not have told me about a 2nd key because that is what Steve's role was, to give us the 2nd key once we meet with him. He said that Bob hadn't returned my calls because it was the end of the month and probably busy. He said that he could not find a 2nd key for the Escalade anywhere and that to make up for the miscommunication he would order one from Cadillac and overnight it to me, and then I could call back and they would walk me through programming the key. All of this sounded wonderful to me, and I almost felt that Steve was going to compensate for the void in customer service that Bob left me with, but that promise was made on Wed. 8/30. Steve said "he would have it in by Mon. 9/4." Since Monday was the Labor Day Holiday I gave them a few days to get it together and I called Steve back on Thurs. 9/7, Steve told me "he was trying to knock down a wasp nest, and was busy." He said, "I will check with the office to see if they ordered your key and get back with you." I have called the dealership again and have not been able to reach Steve West, and I have not heard anything back from them, or received the 2nd key to the Cadillac Escalade that was promised. Throughout the process, Bob Sherrod & Jason Graviet told me that they weren't sure of any answers regarding the Escalade because they only specialized in Buick's and GMC'S. While I appreciate their honesty, it is truly hard to grasp that I just bought a luxury high end vehicle from a Dealership who basically could give me no detailed information about it or the unique amenities it offers. I guess it is safe to say you probably are safe to buy a Buick or GMC from this dealership, but beware if you get something outside of that brand, even if they are offering it there. Also, try to take advantage of all of the customer service before the sale, because if you are looking for customer service... or even basic communication once you drive off of the lot, or a car that is cleaned on the inside...you can probably forget about it, especially if there is a wasp nest that needs attending! read more

Horrible. Just horrible in all aspects. Especially the Service Writers. They left me a voicemail stating the vehicle they were servicing had all kinds of problems. Called two days later and was told there were no issues. Need less to say, we are still having the same problem on the vehicle that they were "suppose" to be handling. Will never go back there again as this is not the first horrible experience I've had with them. I don't trust them to do a simple oil change. Sad. I always try to support local businesses but never again with this place. read more

We recently purchased a previously owned vehicle from Jimmy Smith Buick and found it to be the most wonderful experience for us! The process was super convenient, no hard sales tactics and felt everyone was very respectful of our time as the entire process only took about an hour. Took my 2006 Buick Lacrosse here awhile back. The headlights were not working, so I figured the mechanics here could fix it. Well they could not find an issue with and said they were working. It turns out with a HDM (or something like it) relay which is on the fuse box under the hood. After a few minutes of google and messing around with it. I had better results with a 5 minute google search than waiting almost 3 hours to be told everything was working. The 2006 Lacrosse has automatic headlights so they would work half the time or I had to manually mess with it, and even still they would not work. read more

Terrible buying experience for my son's first vehicle. Test drove and noticed radio did not work, taillight out and quarter size paint chip. Salesman said they would install a better radio with backup camera moved from rear view mirror to new radio screen, fix paint and taillight. This was going to take a little while but he insisted we come in on Saturday to complete paperwork, of course this was the last working day of the month.....wanting the commission. No update on the truck after buying unless I asked. Finally truck is completed and we picked up at the radio repair place. Get in the truck no back up camera on new radio. Called salesman he said that would be extra, also new radio did not connect to steering controls, that would also be extra. Taillight still out. Now notice we only have one key and it is not the admin. key and it is programmed to only go up to 80. Top it all off, I was cleaning out truck because some things were left in it and found an empty whisky bottle in the pocket behind the driver seat. read more

I am surprised by the negative reviews. my experience was fantastic. I spent all day going from dealership to dealership trying to find a car. every dealer around Huntsville was imposing this $3,000- 4,000 new market adjustment fee On both new and used cars I will not be paying above sticker price, it is a shame dealerships are doing this to people. Well, I almost did not go into Athens to check out Jimmy Smith, because I had already decided to just wait it out or call around dealers in other areas who were not charging this ridiculous mark up. Anyway, I decided to just go and see what they had. I pulled in and found a car I liked. I actually called the dealership and Francis answered and I asked him about the mark up fee. He said, no, they just don't do that to their customers. He came out and I test drove the car and bought it. He even had the small dent removed for me, and took $1,500 off the online price. The paperwork was fast and easy. He was just great to deal with and I am very happy with the car and the price I paid. So glad I stopped there! read more

Well I will say this. Be very careful with what your salesman tells you. It isn't always true. I paid $6000 for all different warranties. Rim and tires warranty , maintenance warranty as well as gap, oh and not to forget the $799 cloth warranty for your seats to keep them from staining . I am very upset to find out spending over 36k at this dealership that the warranty I was sold isn't what it was explained to me and my other half . We were both in the room on the day we made this purchase. We both were told and heard the same thing. The thing that bothers me is I drive over 80 miles a day for work at a minimum. And we spent the extra money for the added protection . I'm sorry but I had 2 blow outs and a bent rim and the warranty company only saw for to repair it. I think not! It's not acceptable. And to be told I could buy a new one at cost if I wanted a new one . I felt like I was just another number . Buyer beware. I would never writer a review like this but ... I was seriously mislead. Not to mention they do not pay special attention to paperwork . All of the paperwork is incorrect ? They did check it. 13 isn't someone's name. I'm so ashamed that I shopped local. And to think I was going to purchase a 2019 Terrain from them. They lost me for life . Sometimes I just wish car dealerships had integrity. If you say your going to do something do it. Don't lie to your customers. If you don't know just say that don't over embellish to make a sale. read more

Went there for oil change and tire rotation with their coupon for $49.95. Said the tire rotation was only good for 1500 series trucks not 2500hd series but coupon did say 1500 series trucks only, still charged me 49.95 for just the oil change. Should went to Wal-Mart or do it myself. Not the first time I have had problems with the service department. Will not go back won't bother dealing with people who do false advertising. read more

The absolute worst service department I have ever seen. I have never been treated so poorly at any businesses. They obviously don't care about repeat customers or potential new car buyers. They do not stand behind their service. They provided a quote over the phone for service, I made an appointment based on that quote. When I arrived they kept me waiting over 30 minutes past my appointment time, then quoted the same service and it had gone up by over $50. Told me they never quoted the original price. Steer clear of this place. Horrible business practices. Service department manager did nothing to correct the problem. Got loud and rude. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS DEALERSHIP! Another excellent experience with the service department. I have my regular automotive technician that I go to, but the care and feeding of my Roadtrek 190-P rests solely with Jimmy Smith GMC. I showed up without an appointment and Doug was able to work me in for an oil/lube service plus a safety check of all major systems. I arrived around 07:00 hrs, dropped the vehicle off and was called at about 10:30 hrs informing me the vehicle was ready to go. What could be better? Only if it were free! Wait it was FREE! They have a program where your fifth (5) oil change is free! Even if I would have had to pay for the service, I left knowing that my rig was ready to hit the road. Thanks Doug and the entire service department. 5+STARS! Just rescued by the awesome staff at Jimmy Smith GMC in Athens, Alabama. This morning, 5 hours into a road trip home from Florida on Memorial Day our Acadia started to "act up." Within 30 seconds our vehicle was on the shoulder of 65N, 3 kids inside, 4 bikes on the back, rain storm, and no power! We googled "GMC dealerships" and were immediately impressed with the service person on the line. They recommended a tow company and with 15 minutes we were picked up by a kind soul and on our way. The dealership itself was clean, comfortable, and modern. The staff was Incredible and we won't forget their kindness. They isolated the problem (fried alternator/battery) and obtained a "generic" part to save us $$$. Melissa, Matt, and mechanics kept us informed throughout the ordeal. Jimmy Smith came by a few times to check on us as did nearly every other person at the dealership. The entire staff made us feel right at home by offering us food (hotdogs!), drinks, and friendly conversation throughout the day. They lent us another vehicle to grab dinner and by 5:30 we were on our way. All this on Memorial Day!!! We seriously enjoyed our time with the kind folks at Jimmy Smith GMC. If this is the service they provide stranded motorists, I can't imagine how well they treat their customers. We hope you choose Jimmy Smith the next time you are looking for a new car!
