A picture of the famous Jimi Hendrix statue in Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle.
Alden C.

Yes, the Jimi Hendrix Statue is famous for the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle. Although this neighborhood has become greatly gentrified since I was first introduced to it it is still the hub for the Seattle's art scene and this statue reflects that of the times of yesteryear. Moving from a place where there was virtually no musicians that became famous and successful coming to Seattle (Seattle area specifically) was like a breath of fresh air with it's lengthy history of famous musicians and bands. The statue of Jimi is pretty cool. But I know there's a lot of debate if it completely does him justice. In all likelihood for someone who was a trailblazer that is unlikely. If you are a tourist and trying to get in all the music and rock locations in the Seattle area you got a fair amount of work cut out for you and this statue would be a decent start. There is more of an elaborate memorial for Jimi at a cemetery where he is buried in nearby Renton and that's definitely something to see as well if you are a musical tourist wanting to hit all the sites as possible.

Walked by, took a photo, had a good time doing it. I think if ai was a local, it'd be a fun picture spot for anyone who was visiting.

Located in Captial Hill, near the center of Arts. A great homage to a talented musician. The first stop on my Seattle music tour. #Foxy

In front of an art supplies store, Jimi is frozen in time here with his guitar. Formerly a music supplies store, which makes a bit more sense. Jimi is clearly in the middle of a big riff as he's on his knees and belting out some classic. Worth a stop if you're in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip just for this. Not sure who left the mylar "H" balloon but there it is.

Is it necessary to write a review for the Jimi Hendrix Statue? It's a statue created in 1997 by artist Daryl Smith. It's about life-size, and it's conveniently on Broadway in Capitol Hill. When you're in the area to grab a bite or to check out the rainbow crosswalks or to follow the dance steps (Mambo, Tango, Rumba, Lindy, etc.), come and visit Jimi and all his grooviness... and apologize to him. Back in 1968, a restaurant in Skagit Valley initially refused to serve Jimi and his family. It wasn't until a child recognized Jimi, asking for an autograph, and other patrons urged the restaurant, that they finally begrudgingly served the family. (See an article on MyNorthwest.com titled "Jimi Hendrix's little-known connection between Seattle and Vancouver, BC".) Anyway, drop by for a visit and give him a hug.

Rock and Roll Jimi Hendrix-One of the greats. He was a key person in the history of music. His skills and methods had a substantial impact on music and its evolution. That being said, I expected a great deal more with this statue. It's great to see a statue and I do give him 5 stars. I just thought there would be a great deal more to it. I walked here, almost 7 miles, 35 degrees and with a child in tote. It was part my fault that her expectations were as high as they were. The statue is, in my estimation, may be life size. It sits in front of a music store on a sidewalk and bad some trash I had to kick away. Does it look like him?? Kinda does. If you take away the guitar, I am not sure anyone would make the connection. The statue is great. Just don't get your expectations too high. It is a definite stop if you are in the area, but I would not suggest taking a trek like I did..especially with a wining 7 year old who is used to 80 degree weather and things 65 degrees is cold. AOK Statue. I am glad I stopped by.

Sentimental Journey Down Rock Memory Lane SITREP This is a great moment for my mom and I to pay tribute to an incredible Rock Artist. Mom has lived in Seattle for a couple of decades now and loves priding herself in the local color. But she has not yet had an opportunity - before now - to visit this site. THE SETUP I love the local flavor that Seattle residents give this iconic statue during the different seasons - and the special occasions in their own personal lives. My favorite has to be the picture of the Bridal Party surrounding the statue. THAT is a hoot! MEMORIES But more than just the surface fun one may see with any statue of "some important dead person", Jimi Hendrix was very real to me in that I remember fumbling thru the chords to Purple Haze and Foxy Lady when I was playing an acoustic guitar. And I remember the contemporaneous news clips of this musician before he died. It was a very early wound when mom had to tell this 7-year old that one of his early music idols had just died. But this was something she was extremely well-equipped & sensitive to handle, having just lost both her idols MLK and RFK the year before. It remains a sweet moment of commiseration between us. THE LOWDOWN A wonderful bittersweet remembrance of undeniably one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

Very cool representation of one of Seattle's favorite sons. This statue is in a funky Seattle area with lots of foot traffic. It's iconic Seattle for sure. Other landmarks around are Cal Anderson Park and Seattle Central College

Being a musician and singer/songwriter and former DJ and lover of Jimi, I had to stop by when I learned that this statue of him was just around the corner from my bridal shower. Whoever sculpted this did an amazing job. And it's a piece of Seattle history, just like Jimi. If you're a real fan, go visit his grave in the Renton Highlands cemetery. Jimi is parked in front of an art supply store. He should be in front of a record store.

Love this guy. He stays cool even in the heat.

"Excuse me while I kiss this GUY!" haha well, that's what we did to this fantastic, almost life-sized, dead-on expressive bronze statue of my boy Jimi, a Seattle native. The statue is located on Broadway, a busy double lane street so be careful of the "Crosstown Traffic". There's a few 30 minute loading zones actually in the middle of the street. I had to double check these are legal. They are! Settle's bike lanes are not on the street side of a parked car like I'm used to back home but rather the bike lane is closest to the curb, then the cars park where it looks like they're in the streets. Strange to me, but it's actually a lot safer for bikers. Even on a super hot day, Jimi remained the cool cat he is so loving on him was easy! He was created extremely well and he's very sturdy. He seems to be able to withstand crazy fans and any and all weather conditions. He's been here for over 20 years now! The location isn't ideal or where his fans would have chosen as some others have mentioned. It's difficult to get a photo without the trash can or "Foxy Lady's" and other folks in the background, but we tried our best. Not a terribly big deal. You may just have to say "Hey Joe" can you move over just a hair so we can grab this ultra touristy photo? Apparently the art supply store Jimi sits in front of used to be a record store which makes much more sense, but we didn't mind the art store. They were very kind and let my young daughters use their restroom as we were in the middle of a full day of sightseeing. To complete your Jimi tour of Seattle and pay your respects to the one of the greatest guitarist of all time, visit his finial resting place in Greenwood Memorial Park over in Renton which is just minutes outside of Seattle. We were all very happy we stopped by and think if you're a fan of this guitar G-d, you should stop by too!

Our wedding day!

I love the Jimi Hendrix Statue so much, I married him! No really, I did. Why is he not receiving five stars? That son of a bronze married my girlfriends too! I can't hold back, he completes me, surrounds me in ribbons of euphoria. I guess our kind of love is really my kind of love, the one sided kind. But that is okay... I'm bold as love. Just ask the Axis. He knows everything.

I realize Jimi Hendrix is from Seattle, but is it that necessary to have a statue of him in front of an art store in Seattle? (Supposedly this was a record store before an art store. What's a record store? lol. jk) Seattle does have a museum dedicated to music called EMP Museum, a Hard Rock Cafe and even a Jimi Hendrix Park so whoever chose this location did not know what they were doing. lol. It is a fun little random bronze gem in Capitol Hill. Jimi Hendrix was one of the most influential electric guitarists of the 60s, and the depiction of him is perfect. A part of me wanted to recreate this pose, but I wasn't in the mood. If the statue was in a more appropriate location, probably. Art stores don't really scream out rock n roll. I will save my air guitar solo for another time. lol.

We were expecting a grander statue in a place more worthy than in front of an art supply store (maybe I missed a significance to the juxtaposition). We think a park on a hillside would have been more appropriate. A plus was the metro and trolley ride over to see it, so we weren't out a bundle of money. Also were disappointed that the Museum of History and Industry didn't feature a segment on Jimi Hendrix in addition to the Grunge Artists. No postcards exist of the Jimi Hendrix statue, now I understand why.

After a short stroll down a well-designed dirt path, we found the giant troll. The troll is great for photos and has a sign that describes the history of the troll. My kids enjoyed climbing around the area, too. Facing the opposite direction from the troll is a very cool bridge that creates some awesome cathedral-like architecture. There is lots to do in Fremont, and even though the troll is kind of a one-and-done deal, it's worth checking out simply to explore the rest of the neighborhood and awesome surrounding businesses. It's a great destination to bring out-of-town visitors--like me--to check out another troll! As a fan of the whimsical trolls created by Thomas Dambo, this was a must-see. Street parking is available nearby, making it an easy stop while exploring the neighborhood. I'd personally recommend not climbing on the troll due to safety concerns, although many people were doing so when we visited. Either way, it's a unique photo opportunity and a classic Seattle experience.

It has a chain link fence surrounding it giving it a 'We haven't torn this down yet' vibe. Being from the Bay Area and having seen pieces created at The Crucible I personally would call it exceptionally lazy art - if you're generous with the word 'art'. It's a sign, with some pointed cylinders around it. In my opinion the painted pieces at Gas Works are more interesting. I personally think it's only a matter of time before they tear it out and make it into another park so all in all, it's an easy skip.

It was designed and built by Mowry Baden and his son Colin in 1993. While the exhibit sounds ominous, it's neither a memorial or some gothic art piece. Instead, it's a tribute to the structure used to perform "the wall of death," a motorcycle and miniature automobile stunt. While it looks like it was initially quite amazing, The Wall of Death has largely fallen victim to time and graffiti and it's really that graffiti that negatively impacts the appeal of the exhibit. The exhibit includes the cylinder itself on the south side of the Burke-Gilman Trail, as well as a concrete ramp to the north of the trail, which includes a "series of stylized metal chairs mounted to the existing concrete bridge columns and serves as the stands from which the stunts were viewed. The exhibit was originally intended as interactive with skateboarders intended to use it. However, after several skateboarding accidents including one involving a head-on collision between a skateboarder and a cyclist the exhibit was adapted, by Baden himself, to include 25 concrete parking stops. At this point, the exhibit is somewhat fenced in and much more difficult to access. However, it remains one of the more intriguing public art exhibits in Seattle and is still free to see. It's listed in Atlas Obscura. The exhibit was also reportedly damaged on 11/15/20 when a homeless camp tent caught fire. The exhibit is made of concrete, steel, and aluminum and measures 16' x 65' x 30'. It's easy to access the exhibit from the Burke Gilman Trail in the University District. It's near University of Washington housing and only a few blocks from Lake Union. The trail itself is wheelchair friendly and accessible quite easily.

Smack dab in the middle of Seattle's worst heatwave ever, I can still easily say it was worth the effort for a glimpse of this private residence that features an 18' Bettie Page and even more recently has added the one and only Divine. The house is located in the Ravenna district adjacent to the University District (where I was staying). Commissioned by the owner in 2006, the artwork has been vandalized once (it came back better than ever) and has been threatened by the city at one point with $100 daily fines. because of the "graffiti" on the home. Of course, no fine ever happened and Bettie Page is still alongside the home's exterior wall. Interestingly enough, the home is right across the street from a Mormon Temple. Bettie is adorned with her usual black panties and thigh-highs, a gutter conveniently crosses her chest area. The house is a little tricky to get to, though the mural is easily visible from I-5 near the 65th Street exit. As this is a private home, there is no "admission." Essentially, this is public art visible from a sidewalk or street. If you're in the Seattle area, it's definitely worth checking out and most likely a "must see" for true Bettie Page (or Divine) fans.
