After five years of living in our home, the paint was starting to show signs of wear. I noticed bubbling and became concerned there could be potential dry rot issues. After receiving quotes from many painters in the general Santee/San Diego area, I carefully down selected to Jim. When I voiced my dry rot concerns to many of the other painters, they said they were not handymen and could not replace the trim if they found issues. I was not looking for a partial solution, nor a short term paint job to sell the house. Instead, I wanted to find a painter that could safeguard my largest asset by fixing what needed to be fixed, and doing the job correctly. Painting your house isn't just for aesthetics, rather it protects the wood and house from water and insect damage. After explaining all of this to Jim, and listening to his pitch on how he would address issues he might find during the painting preparation stage, I knew I had found my painter. Also, our house has rain water storage tanks, some of which are bolted to the house. Rather than paint around these tanks, leaving the old color behind the tank, Jim went above and beyond and not only removed the tank to paint, he reinstalled them once he finished the job. Jim also dug a trench around the entirety of the house to ensure he painted low enough on the house so the old colors would not be seen anytime in the future, no matter what level of erosion takes place. The quality of the work performed far exceeded my expectations. One thing I find hard when allowing someone else to work on my house is the concern that they won't do the job as well as I would if I had done it myself. For example, I was concerned that some of the other painters I received quotes from, based on our conversations, would leave dry rot or termite issues with a temporary patch rather than alert me and ask whether I'd like to address the issues. I'd much rather have the option to pay more and do the job right, than simply be left unaware that the issues exist. If you want someone to do the job right, and go above and beyond, you should hire Jim. We recently had our house painted by Jim & Casey (father & son team) and I highly recommend using them, in fact, there is no alternative from my perspective. Our house is approx. 2750 sq. feet, and we needed the exterior (stucco) re-painted. Jim came out for an initial meeting to see the house and what needed to be done and we had an email proposal from him the next day. He answered questions promptly, provided a detailed summary of what would be done, and the process in which it would be done. His proposal was similar to the three other proposals we had received but we decided to go with Jim as he seemed to genuinely care about answering our questions thoroughly and to our satisfaction. The recent rain delayed the original start date, but Jim was quick to communicate when his current job would be done and when he expected to start our house. He started on a Sunday and was done by the following Tuesday. They showed up promptly each day, and put in a good day's work each day. The initial days were all about the prep work (power wash, cleaning/priming the trim, taping etc) and they started painting by the fourth day of the job. All of the Dunn Edwards paints were color-matched to the HOA color specifications. They painted the exterior stucco, all of the trim (stucco and wood), the railings, all of the doors, including the garage door, and even the walls we have in the front and back yards. They had no issues with us walking around the house and pointing out spots that needed a bit of touch up. They were very clean, tidying up each day before they left. They clearly take great care and pride in their work and it really shows in the end result. In the end we are very pleased with the work they have done, and we would absolutely use them again and highly recommend them. I had a problem with the stucco flaking off the house after only living here a year. I called Jim to see if he could give me an estimate and options on what needed to be done. He was able to schedule me in quickly and arrived to see what he could offer. We discussed various options and he explained all the outcomes. Because the previous owner didn't have the stucco properly sealed, I felt the best way to go was to have the elastomeric coating applied to all the stucco. In my opinion, the price was very reasonable for the work he had to do and we scheduled the work to be done. Jim and Casey arrived when they said they would and promptly started working on the prep. They were very careful to cover items and make sure they moved things carefully out of their way before starting. Each time I spoke with Jim he updated what they were going to do that day and if any things concerned him. I was very impressed with the level of professionalism that Jim and Casey had. One thing that stood out was when he was painting our front entry door, he was not satisfied with one method of applying the paint and said he wanted to re-do it because he said "the front door to your home is a big impression and needs to look good" . Well he definitely made it look good, and as a matter of fact, the whole house looked good! Actually it looks great! I walk out and admire the work they did all the time. In August 2023, my wife and I were looking for a painting contractor to remove the acoustic (popcorn) ceiling, paint the entire interior of our home, as well as patch any drywall as needed for a whole house interior renovation. We had a great experience with Jim @ Jim Ferrin painting. We wanted the entire exterior of our home painted and had to coordinate it while we were out of state. From the first inquiry, jim was totally responsive and a complete professional. He was able to get to our house the same day to provide a thorough estimate including pictures to support his pricing. He explained what needed to be done in prep work and how long it would take etc. We requested estimates from other companies who, without ever looking at the project, gave us a price nearly double. During the project, Jim gave daily updates including pictures of progress. I thought coordinating this from out of state was going to be a disaster and honestly it was so easy. Added zero stress to my plate. He was correct when he said all the work is in the prep. My house was recently painted by Jim Ferrin and his son Casey. I needed termite damage repaired prior to painting and wanted to go with different colors. I am very satisfied with their work in repairing and the excellent job they did painting my house. Since I was going with different colors, and had it narrowed down to two colors for the house and trim. They got samples of colors and put them on my house so I could see what they would look like in the sun. Was a great help in my decision. They did a thorough job in prepping the house, and primed the whole house prior to painting and from what people said passing by they never saw painters do that prior to painting. Jim Ferrin Painting The quote we received was incredibly detailed. Jim seemed like an honest guy who cares about the quality of work he and his son perform. There was an extensive amount of carpentry that needed to be done on our home, they tackled all of it. While they are painters and not carpenters they did a good job with the carpentry. There were a couple of times we wanted a change with the carpentry and they made the changes. It had been a long time since the house was painted and it needed lots of prep, sanding, filling cracks in the stucco, repairing a small part of the roofs edge, etc. They primed the entire home and my house now feels protected. Jim recently painted my house and it looks absolutely wonderful. Jim repaired my stucco, repaired all my wood, applied a special type of paint that looks amazing. There were so many miscellaneous repairs before he could even start painting that he was able to take of. He rebuilt my patio and had to cut back my bougainvillea which was no easy feat. He and Brian worked tirelessly every day and were so pleasant to deal with. They paid so much attention to details to make my house which hadn't had been painted in a while....even stained my front door and painted my steps. Jim did a great job on repairs and painting to our Santee house. He was great in communicating with us and our daughter (who lives in the house) throughout the job and stayed on the timeline agreed to. The repairs included things like filling in where the stucco was uneven and repair of eves that were severely damaged. He also prepared some eves for a patio cover we will be adding. The job came out very nice and we highly recommend his work. I had never heard of waterproofing below the dirt line, but Jim included this with the job and we are very pleased that this was done. I must say Jim did an awesome job in painting the exterior of our house as well as doing some woodwork that needed to be done around the windows. It is nice to have someone that is personable and actually knows what he is doing and talking about.
