In August I had a $500 out of pocket procedure done on my face which took less than 15 minutes. Overall, the procedure did not work. I went back to Dr. Javahery a few months later for a couple of other issues & mentioned the procedure in August did not work. She said that at my follow up appointment she would zap them off. I assumed it would be free of charge since it was not successful the first time. Prior to the follow up appointment I received an email stating I would be charged an additional $500 to redo what I had already paid for. Don't get me wrong, Jill herself is amazing. I've been going to that place since high school and the changes that have happened there through the years are disappointing and staggering and just downright comedic and unaccommodating to the Hippocratic oath. Now JILL JAVAHARY will take the time to talk to you and remember your name and help you with whatever you need. Her STAFF on the other hand and her other fellow Practitioners there are absolutely unprofessional, insensitive and really not accommodating to people with mental health issues. I recently was diagnosed with childhood developed DID. I don't like swearing and I don't like being a mean person. And generally I'm not. Everybody's got their cranky days and unfortunately sometimes the word shit will come out of the mouth when you're explaining a situation. I also do my very best to try to keep my shit at the door so that way I don't affect people but that day when I walked in it was like the nurses were just waiting. The energy was off and it seems like nobody had time for me and nobody would even make eye contact. Everybody kept looking at their tablets and conversing with each other. However, nobody was actually paying attention to the patients that were actually there we were just a number and a slot on a time book When I finally got around to explaining nurses that I not only do they think it was an excuse for how I was as a person they took it personally and told me that if I didn't tone it down I wouldn't be able to come back. One particular nurse who had just gotten back from maternity leave miss heard what I said and then unprofessionally misconstrued my words to the nurse practitioner Who then came in and spoke to me and tried to scold me like I was a child. Then the nurse practitioner came in and just started going off in this very condescending tone. This therefore sent me off into a panic attack which then I had to haphazardly tried to explain the my mental health situation which actually while I was upset and panicking. I was trying to explain that I have that I have dissociative identity disorder and sometimes my mail alters will use the word shit or call the situation fucked up no matter how hard I try to control my words and my filters. THAT nurse who had just come back from maternity leave miss heard me for everything after I had already been waiting in examination examination room a good forty five minutes minutes (feeling forgotten, another reason why you guys don't wanna come here they don't give a shit about your time) AFTER wait another 10 or fifteen minutes in the waiting room initially. DID I MENTION GOT THERE EARLY?!?! Now let's talk about the doctor that came and saw me. After she saw me literally starting to cry while trying to explain she backtracked and apologize haphazardly and then tacked on I need to be better with my words (OR tell them FIRST that I have a mental illness BEFORE IM SEEN) .... WHAT?!?!?'bbv when I mentioned my skin problems that I needed a hole punch (The same hole punch in the same area that Dr.Javahery had already scheduled for me to have removed. This doctor (I don't even want to call her doctor at this point because she's definitely not) Did a once over with her eyes (ALSO, not physically examine as I asked her to because these sacks that I've been sitting my skin have attached to my spine and my muscles due to my own health issues and losing over 200 pounds) Not only did she say no, you don't need a whole punch: she didn't even touch my skin didn't do a very big examination she barely glanced at me after that whole initial misunderstanding and miscommunication interaction when I first got there. She prescribe me a med and wash. The same mat and wash that me and Dr.Javahery have taken the time to use and figure out doesn't work on my skin. they would've known that if they actually took the time to read my notes or talk to each other. Needless to say I really wish I could keep coming back to this place I've been coming here since high school. However I have never in my entire life felt so helpless, unheard, dejected, humiliated, frustrated, angry, and last but not least so disappointed in the office that I've been going to for years. If you have children or family members that you're thinking of bringing to this please don't. This place has absolutely no kindness and the doctors are not empathetic except for Jill herself and that being said I never see her she's never around. Confession; I missed my appt. I was off a day. Entered office this morning to an annoyed receptionist who just barely lifted her eyes to acknowledge my presence. I greeted her and stated my name. She directed me to sign in while continuing her task at the computer. After a few minutes she called me up to alert me of my error ( missed appt). I apologized and asked if there was any time today to squeeze me in, explaining I had waited a month for the appt. and it was because of a concerning brown spot on my face. She did check, nothing available til the end of the month. I thought she may ask for me to wait, check with a Dr.explain the reason I felt it urgent to be seen, but that did not happen. Although I am currently a cash patient ( new insurance that does not accept my network) I was willing to pay out of pocket because of my previous experiences at this Dr's. Over the past 10 plus years I've referred a few people to this office and felt a strong feeling of sense of care. The lack of any sort of helpfulness and empathy this visit leaves me with a new challenge of finding a good dermatologist in Long Beach. I begin my search today. read more

This review is only for the scheduling/customer service. I called today to make an appointment. I was placed on hold for 10:18 then was hung up on. I called back and again was placed on hold, this time for 5:26. When the lady finally answered and took my information. She proceeded to tell me that she couldn't make an appointment for me because I have a balance of $7.25. REALLY... I told her I would pay it when I would come in and she said no it has to be paid before scheduling. Time to fine a new dermatologist. RIDICULOUS for it' $7.25 you just lost a patient. read more

It's been months since I've been back to Dr. Javahery's office. I wanted to update my review because I felt it was necessary to spread the word about medical doctors and perhaps their lack of nutritional knowledge. First off I don't want to discredit Dr J for all her help. I'm fortunate she was able to pin point what Was happening with my skin. However, I ended up returning 3 or 4 more times for more antibiotics when my skin wasn't progressing. (Those visits and medications were expensive for a cash patient like myself.) She initially diagnosed me with a skin condition called Tinea Versicolor (an over production of yeast - yes yes we all grow yeast "candida" - you can learn more about conditions and causes online.) I remember asking Dr J if it had to do with my diet (you know, what I was ingesting daily or not getting enough of) - She said no. But once I began to research more into the whole "candida" issue I discovered it had ALL TO DO with my diet! I felt my symptoms lined up with the "overproduction of candida" diagnosis on a few medical and nutritional web pages. Again won't go into detail because this update is getting all too long as it is but it recommended a diet that included NO SUGAR or added sugar products / no carbs / lots of greens / a probiotic supplement with over 25 billion active cultures / and a daily intake of raw garlic or thyme (a strict diet for two weeks to get the overproduction under control.) Well by the 4th day on this strict diet I saw MAJOR improvements in my skin- I now know that the problem was, in fact, my horrible diet. I wanted to update this review because I feel some physicians and specialists may have lost some of that "outside the box" explorative thinking along their many years of practicing. They should never take for granted the notion that what you put into your body has 98% to do with your overall health and wellness. read more

I think it is time for me to give a review about dr. Javahery. She is my life saver! Back in 2011 my face started breaking out after a trip to SEAsia. At first, it began in the forehead and slowly affected my entire face. I thought I would just washed my face 2 times a day and it would clear out by itself but nope! The pimples got hella bigger and painful. I tried a bunch of different face wash nothing helped. The worst point of my life was back in 2012 when my face got so much cysts they were so painful on my face. Then I started using acne.org which helped in some degrees but my face was just so red and started having scars. So I decided to see dermatologists after doubting for so long. I was lucky because I found her as my second dermatologist after a bad one. She slowly explained it to me the procedure that I need to do and what medication I needed to take. Fasten the story, my skin started healing after 3 months of medication and topical cream but my face had really bad scar so I needed 5 treatments of microdermabrasion. The entire procedure started from September 2013 to August 2014 but the result is freaking epic! Like OMG i can't believe this is real, I am really happy of my face because nobody knew that I had acne before. I love the staffs, at first they don't talk much but after I had been here once a month for almost a year, they become so friendly. Dr. Jill was a young tall lady with beautiful skin. (I guess she better she is a skin doctor. lol) She addressed all my concerns about my skin. I was complaining about these marks on my body. She explain to me that this magnifying glass with the light attach can let me know anything about your skin. She practically looked at every mark I pointed out. She said, nothings wrong with your skin and a lot of things can sometimes change with our skin when we get older. I appreciate her patients with me. I did ask her can she treat me for acne, she said, it doesn't look like you have a problem. I said, sometimes I have outbreaks. On Spring 2013, I started getting acne on my jaw area, it was horrible! I was terrified because I have never had acne in my life. Before looking for a physician, I waited sometime thinking my face would renew by itself but it actually got worse. Finally, after four terrifying months, I started looking for a physician dermatologist and I found Dr. Jill Javahery. She is amazing!!! Extremely comforting, knowledgeable and compassionate. I started my acne treatment on September, and a month after, (actually had my follow up on my birthday) my skin was pretty much healed. I completed the treatment and ever since, I haven't had any breakouts. She also gives samples and prescribes over the counter moisteurizers for your face. Brenna the girl who makes the appointments is so cool and takes her time and is just great and so friendly! Excellent, caring doctor! I needed to see a dermatologist and chose her based on all the positive Yelp reviews. So glad I did! Dr. Javahery listened carefully and took the time to answer all my questions clearly and without rush. She seemed very knowledgeable even about skin of color, and was interested in my whole history, not just the specific case I was presenting with. In the end she sent me off with a bag of samples so I could start treatment right away. Now, here's the absolutely best part. Unfortunately, they send prescriptions by default to a specialty pharmacy that didn't end up working out with my insurance and that was a pain to deal with. I had to call the office back the next day, asking to change my prescription from a $900 brand name antibiotic to a generic. (Here we could have a different discussion about the outrageous cost of medications in the US, but I digress...). The friendly nurse/PA called me back and said that actually Dr. Javahery would prefer I take the brand name, rather than the generic, and therefore she was just going to give me enough samples for the whole treatment. They had the samples waiting for me at the front desk! How incredible is that? Dr. Javahery is a truly caring physician. I won't need to go see any other dermatologist in the future. Oh, and if that's not enough, I should add that the front desk staff was also very nice and helpful (is it just me, or that's rare to find in doctors' offices?), they have a parking lot, and the office is clean, modern, and well decorated. The experiences recounted here made me feel that I need to give another side of the story. It's true that Dr. Javahery prescribes a lot of new drugs and her office is good about getting them covered by your insurance. In the case of my teenager's acne, this meant we went to several different pharmacies and used various pharmaceutical rep "gifts" (samples and prescription cards to reduce copays.) She had my daughter on a total of four drugs for teenage acne and a fifth to counter the itchy red side effects. Dr. Javahery responded to my questions but really brooked no argument about a less drug-heavy approach. If you like this kind of "I-must-have-the-newest-prescription" overkill, you will probably like this doctor. At a later visit with my daughter's pediatrician, we got a prescription for a single topical medication, the same one I used a decade ago. It works almost as well and has no side effects. I contacted Dr. Javahery's office regarding an infection that my daughter had on her leg, and they were able to get me in same day. Immediately upon walking into the office I noticed how bright and clean the office was, and how pleasant the office staff was. Very warm and welcoming. We were ushered into the examination room within 5 minutes of filling out the necessary forms. The doctor came in shortly thereafter and immediately greeted my nervous daughter with a genuine smile. She is the most personable and warm doctor I've ever met. She knew exactly how to talk with my 14 year old, who is very shy and was nervous to be there. She immediately diagnosed the issue, and explained it to my daughter in terms she could understand. Instead of explaining everything to me, the parent, she took time to explain it to my daughter in a very age-appropriate way. Dr. Javahery is great! She's the most patient, caring, and knowledgeable doctor I've ever seen. For anything. You never feel like she's rushing you through. She is very focused on hearing the patient and intent on finding the best approach or solution. I recommend her to everyone I know. While trying to get pregnant, I had to take hormones that wreaked serious havoc on my skin. I suddenly had gross acne. For the life of me, I couldn't clear it up on my own. Dr. Javahery used a laser that both sucked the "badness" out and, simultaneously, zapped my skin back into health. She completely remedied the situation. (These are technical terms for how it works so make sure to ask about the laser that sucks the badness out.) Amazing results. Dr. Javahery has also removed a suspect mole for me. She was so gentle that I barely felt it and have only a very minimal scar. She uses a photo imaging system that can track and measure any changes in your moles. Truly amazing and such a relief to know with certainty whether there have been any changes. The offices are beautiful; new and sparkling clean. The equipment is state of the art. Dr. Jill Javahery is awesome! The moment you arrive at the Comprehensive Dermatology of Long Beach office you are greeted by Chelsea and Dominic in a very friendly manner. The office is clean/fresh, furnished in a very modern chic manner and patient rooms are state of the art. There is a family feel to the office atmosphere. The Patient Portal on their website makes it easy to schedule an appointment and to download the necessary patient paperwork for the initial visit. Wait time in both the lobby and patient room was minimal; no more than 5 minutes each!. Dr. Javahery (and her PA - Sharon) have great bedside manner, she was very concerned and cared about my visit, she wanted to get to know more about me as a person; and not just treat the condition/symptoms I presented as a patient and send me on my way. She spent the time (like a mother does) to answer my concerns or questions, wrote down my treatment plan for me and gave me samples to start my treatment right away. The samples came with coupons to purchase prescriptions (and the refills). It is a good thing that I received both! I see how people on the internet resort to lesser products, or do not even purchase the prescriptions for their condition, and then later complain about their condition. I value good health care and if I have to pay a little more for Rx or visits, I am worth it! I am so fortunate that I received the samples from Dr. Javahery. My pharmacy did not have it the same day, so I had to wait to get my Rx the following day; but I had just enough sample to continue with my treatment. I am so glad that I made the decision to come to the Comprehensive Dermatology Center of Long Beach and not wait for my assigned HMO Dermatologist. The last time I went to the assigned Dermatologist, I felt I wasted my time and the Docs time. She was impatient and did not have time to answer my questions/concerns. She basically threw Neutragena samples in my hand and sent me on my way. The money spent out-of-pocket is well worth the service and treatment that I received. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Javahery. I saw quiet a few dermatologists for what seemed like an easy-to-treat problem: A very scaly, spot on my nose that was constantly peeling. The other dermatologists brushed me off, saying I needed to use skin lotion. (I had already tried pretty much every skin lotion). She listened to me and did something no other dermatologist had done: She actually examined my nose. It was pre-skin cancer. The scaly spot is gone thanks to Dr. Javahery! There's not much to add to what's already been said--in the best possible terms-- about Dr. Javahery. I have been to numerous dermatologists over the last 10+ years, and after only one visit, I felt confident enough to text my guy on the spot and urge him to make an appt. for himself. Finding the right specialist is kind of like a trying to find a a life partner. There's a lot of trial and error involved. While on the medical "dating" circuit, you can find doctors who spend lots of time talking to you, but don't really have solutions; you have those that recommend a list of solutions without really understanding the condition; and then you have those who just throw their hands up in the air and say "Let's just say it's 'X' and call it a day." For those last ones, I say "You're a doctor, and your job is to NOT call it a day but to help me get to the root of the problem." I'll work with you (and do any necessary research involved) if you work with me. Well, Dr. Javahery not only listened to me, not only engaged me with her knowledge, and not only made me feel comfortable and at ease with her diagnoses and recommendations, she also gave me the confidence to know that she was committed to finding the solution to my skin problems for the long term. FINALLY... I have found the best dermatologist! I am 41 w very fair skin so a good dermo is a must. Dr Jill Javahery and her staff are nothing short of amazing. From the moment I walked in the door I was greeted with friendly staff, clean and well decorated waiting area (she even has a book exchange, like leave a book you've read, take a book thing...super cool) and never a long wait. Dr Javahery is not like other dermatologists I have seen in the past. When she enters the room you are greeted with a caring smile and a listening ear, which is rare these days for doctors. I have seen Dr Javahery for both cosmetic and basic dermatology needs, and she is NOT the kind of doctor that is going to sell you a bunch of products you don't need, or do procedures that don't look natural. She is a artist with Botox and fillers. Dr Javahery has also removed pre cancerous spots w/o pain or scaring on me. I forgot to mention that her office is paperless, all of her lasers are cutting edge, totally kids friendly, ample parking, great with fitting me in, and not over priced. Dr. Javahary is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I went in for my adult acne and walked out in 30mins with a Rx and a couple products (which worked wonders) to start using immediately. They found me the cheapest pharmacy to get my Rx filled since my insurance didn't cover a lot of the cost and even sent me home with 2 weeks worth of samples to get me started. They are very accomodating with early morning hours on Monday and Thursday so it makes getting in before work very convenient. I'm not sure how they were able to delete my previous comment, but this place was HORRIBLE. The assistant was incredibly rude to me, and made me feel so uncomfortable to answer any questions she had for me. I asked to go to the bathroom and she rudely pointed to the direction. When I left the bathroom I came back to the room waiting for about 10mins. I could hear her talking about me in the hall way and she told the Dr. that I had left and she didn't know where I went. I stepped out and told them both that i went to the restroom where she knew i was and came back into the room. I spent about 4mins with the dr, she didn't touch my face once, or even look to care to spend more time with me. I unfortunately had to spend more time with her drill sergeant assistant. the receptionist were incredibly uneducated and were too lazy to do any work on investigating what medicine my insurance covered. They gave me a bag with recommendations from the Dr. that i bought at there office. I took the time to actually see if they were giving me the right stuff and it was all wrong. I had to CORRECT them. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my medication and after two days the dr hadn't faxed them over anything. the 3rd day it finally got there...the receptionist and dr failed to look into my insurance to see what it covered and sent me to pick up a 400 dollar prescription! After trying to contact them for several days and the pharmacy trying to contact them they didn't call me back. The pharmacy said that this is no surprise and the this specific dermo office is constantly messing up and the worker there told me its a pain to work with them due to the fact that their receptionist are really lazy into looking at people sinsurance coverage. This place was TERRIBLE. They must pay people to place such great reviews, because i had a terrible experience. read more
