Although he does not do transmission work himself, we discussed the merits of getting a new transmission versus buying a new car. Based on the soundness of our van, we ultimately decided that it was best to replace the transmission. He recommended another shop to us and he didn't even charge us for the diagnostic work that he did on the van.
