We got a quote from JH Bennett to move our belongings from Erie, PA to Georgia. Tom was the man that came to our house to do the estimate. We walked every room of the house and he recorded everything into his tablet PC. He bragged that he had a very good rate of estimating. A couple days later he delivered his quote. He assured me that the quote was locked in. So we signed the papers. We spent the next few weeks carefully packing everything. The moving guys told us that they had never seen a better and more organized household. JH Bennett called and told us that the move would happen the next morning. Short notice, but we were ready. That was July 23rd, 2020. They said that they'd be using a 26' truck. I'm no expert but it didn't seem like our stuff would fit into a 26' truck and I told them so. So Tom came right over. He looked at all the stuff to be loaded and agreed that it wouldn't fit. He said that something had "changed" since he had made the estimate. And now we would have to pay a lot more. I reminded him that the contract was binding. He said that it wasn't because the load had changed. Tom was accusing us of bringing more stuff over to be loaded. and that was very insulting. We did no such thing. He even compared his list to the items he saw to be loaded. Not one thing wasn't on both lists. We had more boxes, but he had just estimated those based on some factors. Tom told us that we'd have to pay about 38c/pound for everything over 9000 lbs. Now, we hired JH Bennett for this move because we're old and this was too much for us. But now we were in trouble. We worked like dogs the next 7 hours pulling things out of the pile of stuff to be moved. I removed thousands of pounds. Tom said that we had two choices.... pay the extra or cancel the move. Canceling the move was impossible. So we were stuck. They loaded and weighed the truck. Even with thousands of pounds removed we had to pay an additional $600 for a fixed contract. We were cheated. And then I still had to move all the other items myself. Stay away from JH Bennett. They might sign a fixed price contract. But it means nothing. They claimed that we dishonestly added items in later. And that was a lie. We hired them to do this move and I ended up paying extra and doing a lot of the work myself. it was a nighmare. read more

JH Bennett moved my mom from the Washington, DC area to Erie, PA. They did a great job in every sense. All covid safety measures were taken. Everything was packed, loaded, and unloaded carefully and nothing was missing, broken or damaged. The move occurred exactly as scheduled. The price was exactly as quoted - no upward adjustments as I heard can be common in the industry. The two gentlemen doing everything (Joe and Jose) were so polite and a pleasure to work with! JHBennett lost a very valuable rug that belonged to my grandmother. The move was from Mesa,Az to Erie,PA. The rug was put on last and never inventoried. Fortunately I had pictures of the rug with my furniture.it was an expensive move and we got ZERO help from Erie and United in general. Numerous phone calls and letters from my lawyer went unanswered, DO NOT TRUST THEM. It was an expensive RIPOFF! Insurance would not pay because it was not inventoried! read more

I had a great experience with JH Bennett for my move. Tom met me at my storage locker before the move to provide the most accurate estimate and made sure I had an appropriately sized team on the day of my move. The team I had for my move were efficient and helpful; they did a great job. My only issue was I was told they would meet me at 9:00am the morning of the move, and when I called to confirm I was given a window, then told it would begin at 10:00am. Understanding that things come up so they ended up being later, they made my move as low-stress as possible at a reasonable cost and I would absolutely use them again. read more

We used this company when when we moved three years ago, they were wonderful, everybody was so friendly and helpful! I even wrote such a great review that they used it on their website. But, we used them again last month and I can not say enough bad things. Tom, who was arrogant, came to do the estimate and didn't get back to me until over a week later when I finally called. I was set up with Jackie, who my moving coordinator, she was nice and I'm sure it's not her fault, but everything I asked about was always met with a no. Everything is their way or the highway, including the times of pick up and delivery. Forget that you're paying over $4000, you wait on them and do as your told. I know they have their own schedules and things to do, but let me give an example. On delivery day, they told us we had to move our closing up from 11 to as early as possible, we moved it to 10 as that was the only time everyone was available. So they asked if they could get into the house earlier. We had our realtor go to the house before the closing (we weren't available til 9:30), so he went to meet the movers at 9:00. Well they never showed, we got to the house for our final walk-through and they still weren't there. We go to our closing and come back and STILL not there!! They finally showed up a few minutes later. But the worst part of it all is all of the stuff that went missing during our move. Our vacuum cleaner, a brand new bag of 36lb dog food, three baby gates, a diaper pail, our garbage can, shovels, brooms, my dad's tools and drill set, three boxes of food, etc. all totaling over $600. I filed a claim with the company, and they have denied it saying I signed the paperwork that all had arrived. So my advice to anybody using them, MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR STUFF IS THERE BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING!! Count your boxes, anything not in boxes to look for!!! Although I eventually decided not hire professional movers, I was very impressed by the quality of customer service I got. JH Bennett was willing to work with me to accommodate a potentially complex customs situation, and they were incredibly polite and timely in their communication. "Mover beware" recently I paid hundreds of dollars to use this service. The two gentlemen who moved my stuff were nice but either they misplaced or they allowed people to steal my property. I'm still missing an item. I went to report this misfortunate and was informed by a manager that "hunting season" had started. So, my stolen or misplaced item and money well spent are not priorities but the individuals not questioned due to hunting season are. My wife and I used JH Bennett Moving and Storage in the past and had good results. This past April 30th we used J H Bennett to move. We packed up the entire apartment our self, except for the kitchen. They sent a third party storage company to pack the storage unit and relocate it for us. The moving company sent 3 knuckle heads to do the packing. They did a poor job packing the unit. Also they never put the unit where it was supposed to go. When the wife and I opened the storage unit, we found several broken items, and crushed boxes, new plastic totes that had have the lids broken, furniture broken, books and other items fallen out of the boxes onto the floor. Also one of the so-called movers dropped a speaker to our stereo, never told us about it. We found it when we opened the storage unit. The best part is that when we told them to come back and get the unit, they where told not to drive on the grass. They broke through our septic system. They made a terrible mess of the yard, tore the crap out of it. If I could include pictures I would. Now I have to take the pictures to our attorney to see what he has to say. In December 2015 this company moved us, I have moved 8 times in the past 38 years and this was the worst move by far. The movers showed up complaining about having to work and they just wanted to get done and go home since it was a Friday......the move went downhill from there! I cannot imagine a better experience, for a very stressful time, then I had using J.H Bennett Moving company. Joe, the gentleman that came out for the quote was on time, and both professional and personal. He was genuine and went out of his way to be informative and helpful. Boris, the head of the actual move, pick up to delivery, was also exceptional. Boris and his crew handled our belongings as though they were their own. They were so pleasant and respectful. It was a challenging move being on the 3rd floor of an apartment building then to top it off the far end of a hallway and they could not have been more accommodating and quick to share a smile and a laugh. You may not realize it but the moving company hires local help at the destination site on many occasions. J.H. Bennett obviously takes great effort to insure that this help is equal to their employees in everyway because the help they had at the move in site was everything that Joe and Boris were, professional, great at what they did, and very personable.
